Sacramento State also placed five players on the first team and had eight players total named to the All-PCSC team. Combined, the Hornet and Viking players made up 10 of the 11 first-team positions. Four players were unanimous selections to the first team: Portland State’s SO RHP Nichole Latham and SR 1B Jana Rae Slayton, and Sacramento State’s SR 2B Whitney Loomis and SR C Jamie Schloredt. The All-PCSC team was selected by the PCSC’s six head coaches, with the coaches not allowed to vote for their own players. Portland State and Sacramento State also split the PCSC individual honors. Portland State SR OF Jackie Heide and Sacarmento State SR C Jamie Schloredt were named the PCSC Co-Players of the Year. Heide led the PCSC with 41 RBI, while finishing second in HRs, 12, and fourth in batting average, .369. Schloredt hit .381 with 10 HRs and 37 RBI and was also named the PCSC Player of the Year in 2008. Schloredt finished the regular season second in the PCSC in batting average, third in RBI and fourth in HRs. Portland State SO RHP Nichole Latham and Sacramento State FR SS Desiree Beltran were unanimous selections, respectively, for PCSC Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Latham went 16-11 with a 2.63 ERA and 142 strikeouts during 36 appearances, including 25 starts to earn Pitcher of the Year honors. Latham’s 16 wins leads the PCSC, and she also finished the regular season with a PCSC-low .216 batting-average-against. Beltran was named Freshman of the Year after leading the conference with a .413 batting average. Beltran’s .413 batting average is the second-best single-season mark since Sacramento State joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 1990, and is the program’s best mark by a freshman during the school’s Division I-era. First-year Portland State head coach Tobin Echo-Hawk was named the PCSC Coach of the Year. Echo-Hawk guided the Vikings to a 29-24 regular-season record, including 15-5 in the PCSC as Portland State captured its second-ever PCSC title and NCAA Regional bid. The Vikings will meet No. 8 national-seed Stanford Friday in the NCAA Regional at Stanford, CA. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. (PDT). – PCSC – FIRST TEAM Pos. Player Yr.
