Japan defeats Canada 9-6 in extra innings.
I find it surprising that Jen Yee only pinch hits for Team Canada. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen her in the starting lineup much, if at all, neither at the WCOS nor at the Canadian Open. What gives?
By the way, for all of you with Twitter, you can follow along with the hashtag #wcos. That's the only way I got this Japan-Canada info.
Also, according to tweets from ASA, Whitney Canion will be getting the start tonight.

Great game for Canada even if they lost! Victoria Hayward had one heck of a game! Jen Yee has some kind of injury according the article I read from Team Canada. I'll try to find the article again. I couldn't find the article but I know she has an injury that is keeping her out!

Nope. But they are hanging around with Team USA. Don't think there will be any attendance records broken at this World Cup. Should be an interesting game between Australia and Team USA tomorrow!

After my daughter's sophomore year of college she chose to go to Greece to attend summer school. While there the Greek folks said that they knew she was American before she said a word. How? Because she had perfect teeth. Given the state of braces in the U.S. it's a common tell-tale sign. Using that as a basis to judge the Czech team, it sure looks like it's an all American team. They all have perfect teeth. Surprisingly, though, the announcers are mum about the origin of any of the Czech players. Edit: My wife gets home from work and the first thing she asks is, "how Americans on the Czech team?"

I wish ESPN would televise the better games. USA V CZECH REP. is kinda ugly to watch even though it's a semi-close game into the 6th. USA looks a bit sluggish both on defense and offense. Nice watching the newbies on the team, but not quite the same.... Attendance looks low as well-a bit disappiointing.

I agree! If USA plays sloppy like they did tonight and the Aussies bring their A game, it could get really interesting! I'm officially declaring Team USA on upset alert!

Those two "old timers", May-Johnson and Cochran, sure do know how to wield a bat and play the game, and they both can play outstanding defense. May-Johnson's play at shortstop last night was just terrific. The game itself was as sloppy as it gets at this level. Australia vs. USA should be a better played contest.

May-Johnson and Cochran are beasts.
The game was sloppy, but I laughed almost uncontrollably when Christi face planted down the first base line. I don't think I'll ever let her live that one down.

The Czech judge gave her a 6.9! How about the Czech center fielder dropping and easy catch and then making a running catch going away into the fence! Peak and valley all in the same inning! Thought the tag out at third base was bad...clearly safe. I also thought that we were out at first base when we were called safe and it was a great play by their first baseman!

Please show me my bias tenfour. mindajane is a Washington fan and I have said nothing for nor against Team USA. Please note that Team USA lost their shortstop in Canada. This forced the change of May-Johnson to SS, a position she had not played since College. This caused Leles to move into the lineup at third. Leles gets injured and this causes Hoagland to move to third. Last night she played second. Schute was playing catcher and played outfield for Florida. She is playing catcher because Lappin retired, Bramlett retired and Shults was ill. Holcomb had already pinch hit. Maybe all of this has something to do with how the team is playing. Of the three losses to Japan in Canada two were by one run and in the 4-3 loss team USA out hit Japan 11-4. As I recall the veterans that retired who were part of the Olympic team lost to Japan in the Gold Medal game 3-1. Errors were made and little scoring was accomplished by team USA. They had been together for 2 or more Olympics.Maybe we could give these young players more than a few weeks and a few injuries to jell. Just because I have a daughter on the team it does not mean I can't see clearly. I've seen the mistakes, I seen the wild pitches, the inconsistent fielding and hitting. A new coaching staff, two returning players and several of those injured. When was the last time Team USA had this many players still playing in college? Never? Prior players have played together for 8-10 years. A month versus 8-10 years. Go figure, they are making mistakes.

First off what on earth does me being a Washington fan have to do with anything? Yes I am Washington fan and I am proud of it! But that has nothing to do with Team USA whatsoever. I am a fan of Team USA! I'm proud of these girls and the job they've done! Yes I know they have had obstacles. Yes I get that they haven't played together long. My point wasn't that they don't have talent, heart, or anything like that. My point was they have been flat both games(even the announcers commented on that). I've not hidden my position on what happened between USA softball and their players during the off season. I think it was crap and I wish people would quit saying they retired. They didn't retire. They are still playing ball and great ball at that. And they would still be playing for USA softball except USA softball got too big for their pants and started throwing crazy demands around. What they did, didn't just hurt the former players but is also hurting the current players. They lost a ton of support and in that these girls lost a ton of support. It has never been more obvious than now with the not even half full stadium they are playing in. The attendance for these games has been AWFUL and that breaks my heart! But with all that said these are girls I love watch play softball. If you've read my post you would know I am so a HUGE OU fan(was actually an OU fan before I was a UW fan) and Keliani Ricketts and Jessica Shultz fan. You would also know that I am HUGE Lady Vols fan and fan of Kelly Grieve and Lauren Gibson. I do like to watch the other teams. I love international softball and watching how different each team is. Not just in how they play but in their personalities and the way they do things. I am a big fan of Aussie softball, Japanese softball, and Canadian softball! I just love good softball and I saw alot of good softball played tonight by both teams but I have been very impressed by this Aussie team and their fighting spirit. They took Japan to extra innings and lost earlier today and they gave USA a fight. No matter how I feel about the people who run USA softball, I do and will always support these young ladies! But just because I support them doesn't mean I can't comment on something several other people have said.

mindajane posted - USA pulls it out but the Aussies played an amazing game and in my opinion a better game then USA did .Who won? One error and a dumb pitching change was the difference in my opinion ! How about diving for a ball and turning a single into a triple? Team USA fought hard those last couple of innings but that kind of half effort for half the game won't get them past Japan and I wouldn't even bet it would get them past Canada. Doesn't sound like a Team USA fan to me. Just because an announcer suggests something doesn't make it so. Were I a member of team USA I would question who the heck you are to tell me I gave half an effort. I would be offended that based on your observations that Team USA will lose against Canada( you know Salling and Lawries former team) because they lack effort. As I said what information do you have and from whom that makes you an authority on Team USA and their effort. They only lost to Japan in Canada. As I posted two games by a single run, a deficit that was less than the gold medal games in the 2008 Olympics by more experienced players. Should they lose again experience, length of time playing together and injuries will be more of factor than effort. Please tell all of us who was giving this half effort? What players will you assign that label. Don't you get it? You have no way of knowing who is playing with an injury, a pulled muscle or a bruised hand or anything else. To label them as giving half an effort suggests to me that you have some inside information. Or could it be that you took the announcers comment and made it your own.I'll wager she doesn't know who might be hurting other than what was announced or seen on TV. I'm glad you're a proud Washington Fan, I'm proud of the players who are playing for Team USA now and I appreciate what the other players did who retired. Yes Finch called it a retirement, as did Bustos, Kretschman, Jung, Nuveman and Mims. The players who "decided" it was best for "them" to play in the NPF than for Team USA made their decision. Circumstances have changed since the sport was dropped from the Olympics. They are no longer paid for winning these competitions. Thus they decided to play for the NPF when given a choice by USA softball. The choice was play for Team USA for less money or play for the NPF for much more money. USA softball would not allow them to do both as they have in the past. So they retired or left to play where they would receive greater compensation. I have no issue with that decision. They had a long tenure with Team USA. Now USA softball has decided due to the constraints that they have had placed on them to use younger players still in college. Therefore they will be less experienced and make more mistakes which means they will not win as often. Seem to remember a college pitcher throwing a no hitter against Team USA on their bound for Bejing tour. Did they give a half effort that night?
