Gotta fix the back end of the lineup.  Top 3 are very solid (Leach, Vines, Gregg).  They've got a few hitters that are very serviceable, but not at the level of the top 3. They'll need one or two freshman to come in and play at a high level.  But I think it comes down to stabilizing the bottom third of the lineup more than anything.  At the end of last year they were moving all sorts of people in and out trying to find something that worked.

Pitching should get a boost with Sprang coming in.

I see Tennessee making a deep run if Sprang really makes an impact. Definitely need some freshman to come through offensively

I hope so. I'm a toddler Tennessee fan so this is all new to me. I thought maybe Tennessee had a chance of making it back this year but tamu had the bigger number st the end of the games.

I think Tennessee has a great chance of going to OKC. They gain one of he top pitching recruits in the country in Gabby Sprang. They have some fantastic freshman, Megan Gregg, Jenna Holcomb, Brooke Vines, and Aubrey Leach. Pretty solid in the circle and well rounded.

Lockman and McSwain will be key for the Vols: They're right-hand hitters in a lineup that is otherwise left-hand heavy and they
have to hit. So far they have--McSwain had a great tourney in Arizona and Lockman is much improved and got another big hit today
in the win over Oklahoma St. And, of course, it would help hugely to get Vines back--second best hitter on the team.

Is there a coach in the game with a quicker hook than Ralph Weekly? Sprang gives up a 1 run in the 2nd inning and he yanks her. He yanks everybody at the first sign of difficulty. I don't know how any pitcher develops any confidence with him, knowing if two runners get on he's going to pull you. And the thing is, Weekly does it in early in non-conference games that the Vols are going to win comfortably. It's one thing to pull somebody in the 5th inning of an SEC game. He's yanking pitchers in the 2nd inning of games against easy opponents.

Gabby was struggling to find the plate...so he replaced her and she went to go work on her location off to the side with the backup catcher

Yes, but I believe you've got to let pitchers work through their difficulties in games. That's how you develop some mental toughness, IMO. I don't think it's a good thing if players fear getting yanked if two runners get on. That's a good way to kill a person's confidence, in my view--but I'll concede that different players react differently. Everybody can throw strikes when they're in the bullpen and there are no hitters and there is no pressure. You only learn to pitch well in tight spots by being in tight spots in GAMES. And you never learn if you get yanked every time you get in a tight spot. Ralph's certainly got a great track record, but I do not like his philosophy with pitchers.

The thing you don't know is that Tennessee is very mentally tough...They use a pitching staff so all the pitchers know ahead of time they can be replaced at any time so when their number is called to be ready to go

FAU knocks off the Lady Vols 3-2.

There were definitely some questionable calls from the umpires that went in favor of the Owls, but man, the Vols offense looked rough...
