Pabar, old buddy, if you have checked that out, that's two demerits from your man card.

My picks are easy to make and here they are:

Agree     -  1, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
Disagree  -  2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 13

1)  Agree/disagree - Justice Roberts was correct to call the Obamacare penalty a tax.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I pick agree, then I'm forced to accept the fact the health care law is constitutional.  If I pick disagree, I'm agreeing with Obama that the penalty is not a tax.  I can't agree with Obama so I'll have to refuse to answer.

2)  Agree/disagree - A citizen should be born on US soil, base, territory, or similar, in order to qualify to become POTUS.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I pick agree and Sen. Cruz runs for President, I'll be supporting him for President and I'll come off as a hypocrite.  If I pick disagree, then I'll lose my ability to condemn Obama as a likely foreign born President, in the event Sen. Cruz doesn't run.  Therefore, I can't answer this question.

3)  Agree/disagree - A State/City law prohibiting firearms inside State/City parks is an infringement on our second amendment rights and should be declared unconstitutional.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I pick agree, I'll alienate voters who might consider voting Conservative as it's already been decided that cities have a right to pass laws banning guns in public places.  They'll think I'm crazy to suggest these laws are unconstitutional.  If I pick disagree, I'll be unable to argue how folks are denying me my second amendment rights, by voting to limit carrying weapons into certain places, and I'll look like I'm not a gun rights guy.  Therefore, I cannot answer.

4)  Agree/disagree - We should phase out Social Security over time.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I say I agree, I'll alienate voters who will think Conservatives want to eventually eliminate SS.  If I say I disagree, I'll come of as supporting entitlement programs and promoting a nanny state.

5)  Agree/disagree- We should slowly replace Medicare with vouchers to be used by the elderly to purchase private insurance.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I say I agree, I'll alienate voters who will think Conservatives want to eventually eliminate Medicare.  If I say I disagree, I'll come of as supporting entitlement programs and will appear to be a non self-reliant advocate.

6)  Agree/disagree - A sick individual in need of significant medical care, who chose not to purchase health insurance despite earning enough money to afford it, should receive hospital care at the expense of society, (he hasn't enough assets to cover his very costly medical needs).

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I say agree, it will go against all my principles of being self reliant.  Each person should cover their own needs.  If I say I disagree, I'll alienate voters who will think Conservatives support letting folks go without care if they fail to be self reliant.  Therefore, I cannot answer.

7)  Agree/disagree - Bill Clinton is/was a Socialist.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I agree, then it will come off as if I'm suggesting every Democrat is a Socialist.  That would cheapen my criticism of President Obama.  If I disagree, people will ask me why he isn't and President Obama is.  I have no specific answer to that question so I cannot answer this question.

8)  Agree/disagree - Spending $40 Billion over eight years to help eliminate Aids in Africa was worth raising our National debt.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I pick agree, my fellow Conservatives will criticize me for spending money we don't have.  If I disagree, I'll alienate voters who will think Conservatives have very little compassion for the needy.

9)  Agree/disagree - American citizens have a right to "preventive care".

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I agree, it will come off as if I'm partly supporting Obamacare.  If I disagree, I will alienate voters who might think access to preventive care is both deserving and critical for all American citizens.

10)  Agree/disagree - The President should have the power to sign executive orders.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I agree, it will come off as if I support some of the decisions President Obama has made.  If I disagree, how do I explain not speaking out when Republican Presidents did much the same?  Nope, I cannot answer this question.

11)  Agree/disagree - Folks with pre-existing conditions should have access to purchasing an affordable health insurance policy.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I agree, it will appear I support one of the themes found in ObamacareIf I disagree, I will alienate voters who will think Conservatives lack compassion and don't care that uninsurable folks are left behind.

12)  Agree/disagree - When including talk radio, internet, and Fox News, Conservative reporters have all the tools necessary to properly vet any and all Presidential candidates, and to reach the necessary audience that needs to be informed.

Conservative - I can't answer this question.  If I agree, it will end my ability to blame the main stream media for all our ills.  It's important to blame them for information not getting out to the masses.  If I disagree, I'll look completely foolish once you consider we have almost complete monopoly of talk radio, the biggest cable news audience, and numerous sources on the internet to spread each and every story that's out there.

13)  Agree/disagree - Banning a fully automatic weapon is not an infringement on our second amendment rights to bear arms but banning a semi-automatic weapon would be an infringement on our second amendment rights.

Conservative - This one I can answer.  I agree.  Fully automatic weapons are fully automatic while semi-automatic weapons aren't.  I think the Constitution is clear on this one.

Despite the heat I'll get from our more moderate Conservatives, I'm going to continue with the assumption the vast majority of the GOP, (I do think the Libertarian wing is now running this Party), seriously want to phase out Social Security and Medicare over time.  Obviously, they're not considering changing the rules for those nearing or at retirement age but, as clearly shown in Rep. Ryan's Medicare voucher program during the last campaign, the move is to get Government out of these two social programs.  Similarly with expanding the right to carry laws throughout this Country as indicated by several suggesting we're safer when guns around us are more plentiful as opposed to fewer.  The fact nobody is denying such in any of the questions below should be proof enough my assumptions are accurate.

rocklifter - There were 12 political issues to agree or disagree upon.  Nobody said "everything" had to be answered.  I was more focused on "anything" being answered.  Surely a few of these you can answer agree or disagree.  I'd prefer to know if I'm right or wrong, regarding my thoughts about the majority of the Right hoping to phase out SS, before I continue with my assumptions.

How many times, exactly, do I have to say this is untrue, before maybe you'll hear me?  I think pabar, KIR, and a few others have also addressed soc sec, etc.

The ploy seems to be to say it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and mikec - You have every right to repeat over and over again that Obamacare is no good or gay rights is unimportant.  I have every right to make the case the vast majority of the Right is trying to phase out social programs and extend the right to carry.  The Medicare voucher program was simply too close.  I said moderates would be upset with me because I know you personally have no interest in ending SS or increasing the number of places where others can carry weapons.  But you're only one person on the Right.

How many times, exactly, do I have to say this is untrue, before maybe you'll hear me?  I think pabar, KIR, and a few others have also addressed soc sec, etc.

The ploy seems to be to say it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and That is getting old.

They may have discovered a way to censor me so let me just rewrite this again...

I doubt you get answers to your questions because most people aren't concerned about what you're asking, and that goes for the left and the right. Notice how many from the left have responded. You try to make these questions seem significant. They're not. No one cares You can't take the hint. You're a maniacally obsessed weirdo, and take yourself way too seriously. All I can do to get my side's message across to readers inside here is to put these issues out there and hope the Right will eventually take a position and explain it thoroughly.  Even our Libertarian readers, who may favor phasing out SS and Medicare, or would like the right to conceal and carry in their community, want to know how their Party, or candidates, would answer.  Not surprisingly, when you have no good answers, a non-answer is all that remains, and non-answers say a lot to voters.

Just listened to Peggy Noonan talk about an issue and I'll put this out there and ask who is willing to agree or disagree with her.  She suggests we need to invest in humanitarian aid for the millions of refugees resulting from the Syrian conflict.  This will increase our national debt but I agree with Ms. Noonan anyway.  What say you?

To our readers.  Dewey is lying to you right now.  He has asked numerous questions and many of us have answered most of his questions.  He is somehow dissatisfied with either the answers themselves or the lack of 100% participation from those of us on the right.  In fact, we continue to post articles, statistics and opinions from left-leaning sources in support of our arguments.  Dewey, on the other hand, provides no such support.  His way of presenting his position is to pose questions.

He has no real answers himself because, as those of us on the right have proven over and over again, Obama's policies either have failed or are failing now.

So now one of the most prolific posters here is crying censorship. ROFLMAO
The playbook is so predictable. Thank goodness Dewey isn't a minority or we would have all been called racists long ago.

In one post you say we should eliminate the political talk in this forum and then on the same day you come up with "All I can do to get my side's message across to readers inside here is to put these issues out there and hope the Right will eventually take a position and explain it thoroughly."

The continued poking, prodding and needling will only get you a big ass dose of more laughter.  So your repetitiveness only dilutes what little street cred that you have left.

FIB, says it best of anyone

pabar - The vast majority of these are not questions but political issues to see if you're for or against, agree or disagree.  If there is even one issue in the 12 I listed where you can explain to the reader why an answer shouldn't be forthcoming, please share it.  I listed distinct issues where I believe the Right is trying to manipulate the voters by deliberately being vague.  Our readers can judge for themselves if they think I'm right.

I take a lot of heat inside here because some find me a threat due to the fact I get information out there.  There can be no other reason to be so angry or insulting towards another member who thinks differently than others inside here.  If there is, please share that too.

mikec - I appreciate you announcing your position regarding SS and Medicare, (I wish you would tell your positions on a few of the others), but why are you answering for everyone?  Outside of you and CoachB, I'm guessing the vast majority of the GOP, and our Conservatives here, favor eventually ending SS and Medicare.  Pabar has said he doesn't think it's possible to end these programs but I'd like to hear him say he wouldn't support Rep. Ryan's plan to issue Medicare vouchers before I would believe he wouldn't change his mind and support phasing out SS and Medicare.  If you're right about where Conservatives stand, your fellow Conservatives in here will speak up on their own.  Please give them a chance.  If readers think these social programs are not in jeopardy, think again.

You know Dewey I got very pissed at you the other day. That was my fault.
But the problem has occurred to me is that you do not seem to understand that people are against 99% of what your so proud of.
Now we have had good honest conversations in the past until it occurred to me that you cared nothing about being a friend and more about pushing your agenda.
The sad thing is not only did you lose a friend who is vastly more conservative than you, but also someone who tried to listen and understand where you were coming from. If you remember my father worked for General Motors and was a voting member of the UAW. They pushed Jimmy Carter(Gulp), Bill Clinton, and the rest of the Democrats. Most of the time my father supported what the Union represented and what was happening in our country. Remember I told you that I was a young Supporter of Jimmy Carter till he showed his stripes and betrayed the people of Georgia and largely became fodder for Political Jokes. I voted for Bill Clinton. I liked the man, I liked what he represented, and didnt care who all he played with.....(Monica). Then I got older and I became more Conservative.....still trying to understand what the Dems were pushing and not really liking some of the Conservative Stuff either. Heck to be honest I wasn't a real big supporter of Reagan until later on in his presidency. (Nancy scared me like Hillary does now).
Now onto today. These battles your waging are becoming nonsensical in nature. The president that was elected has little or no respect from much of the US or the rest of the World. To be honest, Im not sure he even cares either. Ive had some people throw the race card at me because they feel Im against Obama because he is Black. Not in the least. Im against Obama because he is about as arrogant and ignorant as anyone can be to be so educated. (or at least he says hes educated). I don't give a crap what color, race, creed, or animal species you are if you get the job done then so be it.
I am still backing away from most of this argument stuff because it does me no good and Im quite tired of beating the dead horse, shining the car with no motor, or any other analogy we can come up with.
My daughter is a Freshman in High School. She is playing on an 18U Gold Team with quite a few Colleges very interested in her. I want to focus on these years with her and not keep coming back to this insane asylum known as the Miscellaneous Board.  Something draws me here and Im sure Ill be back one way or the other, but not to argue. Lord help me.

rocklifter - My apologies as I'm just now seeing your post.  First let me thank you for acknowledging your faults as I do think you went way beyond the line yesterday.  Now I'd like to address some of the things you've said.

I know full well there are many people out there who completely disagree with my thoughts.  In fact I have many personal friends who completely disagree with many of my Progressive thoughts.  I don't know how many times I've stated I respect those who think differently than I and I try never to characterize any of them in a negative personal manner.  Where you are completely mistaken, in my humble opinion, is to suggest I would ever consider sacrificing a friendship, or treat a friend improperly, in order to share my political perspectives.

Now we both know I lost you as a friend three or four months ago and, until my dying day, I'll never completely understand how it happened nor will I ever take comfort in the fact you made such a decision.  Fourteen months ago, you kindly contacted me in such a pleasant manner it reminded me of why I come to this site in the first place.  I've made so many contacts/friends through the years here and you were every bit as important as any of them.  Unfortunately, you must think I dramatically changed for the worse in the first nine months of 2013, (It can't be the 2012 election or SC decision because you contacted me after those events), that pushed you to a breaking point...one I'll never fully understand.  I was disappointed, to say the least, but I still don't think it was deserving.

Let me simply close with this and see if maybe you can reflect upon it over the next few days.  We have a Party currently in power that I happen to support wholeheartedly, and we have a President in office who I admire a great deal.  I can tell you all the reasons why but, understandably, they probably wouldn't interest you.  As a proud Democrat who admires this President immensely, can you begin to imagine how difficult it is to personally listen to both your political philosophy and your President attacked in an abusive manner every single day?  From retarded to uncaring to curious George to "it was clear from day one he would be horrible".  It's hard, but it's part of our political way.  Many don't enjoy the back and forth and they stay out of it, as is clearly apparent around here.  Enjoy isn't a good description because I don't fully enjoy many of these conversations either.  However, I try to keep my emotions under control and I do my best to counter as much of the "criticism" as I possibly can in as respectful manner as I can.  When you're being called a maniac, a woman, obsessive, and delusional, it's not always easy .  If it were my local favorite softball program, or it's Coach, being criticized, I'd do the same.  For some reason, if it were the latter, I think you would fully understand and admire me for it.  Hopefully, someday we can get back to that relationship of mutual admiration.  The fact you took the time to write your response, and share some personal thoughts, leads me to believe that's possible.

Dewey - this is not a response to your message to Rocklifter.  That is his to handle.  But since you posted this publicly, I'm going to give you my thoughts.

I don't actually have a problem with any of the positions you hold other than to disagree with them.  I am friends with people who hold many differing opinions than my own.  That we can have those disparate opinions and not fear retribution from others or our government is what has made this country the greatest in all of civilization and I cherish those differing opinions to remind me of our freedoms.

What does bother me are your tactics which I find shady and purposefully confused.

  • You openly declared a personal moratorium on criticism of Obama, not because you think he's perfect, but because you think it's bad debate strategy.
  • You edit prior posts making it impossible to audit your prior comments.
  • You claimed to have won victory over a poster who had stopped posting showing an incredible amount of arrogance.
  • Your responses to questions are rarely direct and, quite often, attempt to take the reader in a different direction for the sake of obfuscation.  Witness the numerous references to "rabbit holes" that many of us have used to describer these tactics.
  • You obsess on civility because some of us are very direct and sometimes impolite in what we say.  But I have found many of your posts condescending and arrogant which I think is no less offensive than calling someone a name directly.
  • Lately, you have taken to asking a seemingly endless series of questions and then obsessing over the fact that not all of us on the right have answered all of your questions to your satisfaction.
In short, I don't think you dialogue in an open and honest way.  All around us are signs that not all is well with this administration and its handling of a variety of issues.  I have made a concerted effort over the past several months to post numerous references to liberals critical of their president and the state of this union.  You continue to skip merrily along whistling a happy tune in order to drown out what you don't want to hear.  It's tiring and it's understandable why so many don't want to deal with you - some have left and some have grown incredibly frustrated.  Somehow you see it as a sign of victory or superiority.

I'm sure you'll take issue with most of it but it's all my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

pabar - I think we're being repetitive but here goes...

Edit - Have no idea what you're talking about.  If I ever have a few more thoughts minutes after I make a post, I put Edit at the bottom of the post as I thought that was protocol.  You'll have to explain and give examples for what you speak.

Claim of victory - I have made no claim of victory.  I've been accused of running folks out of here and I responded that maybe my countering argument wasn't what they wanted to hear or made too much sense.

Direct response - Everyone does the same.  Examples please.

Civility - When one chooses not to call people names or be rude, then the obvious accusation to turn to is "arrogant and condescending".  You've made these direct accusations in my direction on many occasions and never once have you included a post or a phrase as evidence of what you are talking about.  It's time you either put up the evidence or stop with the accusations.  Let me and the readers know what you find to be arrogant or condescending and I can agree or disagree accordingly.

I suspect you are aware kir stalks me around this forum constantly, (how about you offer an opinion on those tactics), and rarely makes a post without including my name inside it.  I tend to think I handle his behavior pretty well, don't you?  I can only imagine how some others inside here would react if they had a similar member at their heels on a daily basis mocking them at every turn.

To be honest, it's not a completely friendly crowd inside here and I'm not about to simply stick my chin out there and let everyone beat on it endlessly.  I won't deny I'm capable of some sarcasm when I take a few cheap shots.  I think this is probably when you think I'm being condescending.  I've never tried to suggest I'm better than anyone inside here but I do tend to believe I'm a bit more polite and respectful than a few others are.  Many times I have to force myself to be.  Finally, this Forum continuously mocks Democrats as retarded and clueless, just to pick out two lovely characterizations.  With that in mind, I have no doubt some members are laughing as hard as I am that my side is being called condescending.

Questions - Questions are what starts almost every thread here, is in most every post, makes up every political TV show, and is the basis for every candidate debate.  Every thing about politics to me is about where you stand on an issues, what issues you want to promote, and how your position plays out with regards to my life and my fellow citizens lives.  Nothing has provided more information than the issues I ask about and the questions I pose.  All anyone has to do is state their position or explain why they can't come up with one and the issue is over.  This is my debate style and I remember many times when you, kir, Grizzly, and others call posters out when they don't get enough responses to their threads or posts.  I have no problem with you doing such other than the fact I answer and your side mostly ignores.  I'd be too embarrassed not to provide my position, when asked, on a political issue in a political forum.  I'm surprised your side doesn't feel the same way.

The most important comment I can make with regards to your post is to please stop accusing me of something if you're unwilling to provide a post, a quote, or some kind of evidence representing what you think I've done wrong.  That's the least you can do I would think.

LIAR,  I have found and posted your bold claim more than once.  You claimed victory over your debate candidates because they "gave up and went away" because of your great debating skills.

I suspect you are aware kir stalks me around this forum constantly, (how about you offer an opinion on those tactics), usually when I want pabar's opinion I ask for it, he does not know my history with you so why would we he opine on which he does not know? and rarely makes a post without including my name inside it.  I tend to think I handle his behavior pretty well, don't you?  I can only imagine how some others inside here would react if they had a similar member at their heels on a daily basis mocking them at every turn.

Tell the whole story boy,
I reached out to you on more than one occasion [twice] for you to let my posts stand on their own, without your rebuttal.  I did not write my posts to simply have you challenge my conversations, no stranger in my life had ever done that, I did not do that to you.   I don't know you, don't want to.  I told you very early on that I was not interested in your homework assignments and you wouldn't stop hounding me until I put my foot on your neck.  You chose to be the tough boy on the computer, I got sick of your crap early on and told you so.  You continued just as you do today with others.

You could not sit still and leave my posts alone, I offered you an olive branch, you declined the offer, twice.  You made some idiotic statement that you must defend those that thought like you and you must defend barack.  That was your choice.  You can't have it both ways barney

1)  Agree/disagree - Justice Roberts was correct to call the Obamacare penalty a tax.

He was wrong because he didn't make Congress vote on it as a tax.  Not one Congressman voted on it as a tax.  Not one Congressman presented it to their constituents as a tax.  Our President went on the record that it was not a tax.  Obamacare started and remains a lie to the American People.

2)  Agree/disagree - A citizen should be born on US soil, base, territory, or similar, in order to qualify to become POTUS.

Agree although I also said I think if both parents were American then that person is considered American.

3)  Agree/disagree - A State/City law prohibiting firearms inside State/City parks is an infringement on our second amendment rights and should be declared unconstitutional.

I believe that if a person has a legal firearm, for example legal and conceal and carry permit, then they should be able to take their weapon anywhere.  When our Constitution was formed, there were no restrictions.  If a person has a private business, I believe that they can decide who can come in and not come it.  What would prevent the state/city from passing laws that guns can't be in cars, can't be in homes, can't be in ... they could legislate guns away.  This is actually a pathetic notion.  Criminals will always have guns.  You only hurt the law abiding citizen.  I'll say this again, someday when one of yours is in trouble, you might want someone like me armed and ready to pull the trigger.  Your opinion will change real fast then.

4)  Agree/disagree - We should phase out Social Security over time.

Dewey, you continue to harp on this and no matter how many times you hear it, you just continue.  Even Paul Ryan noted that he was not pushing for the elimination of SS ...  Instead, he pointed out that SS and other programs have to be fixed or they can not sustain themselves.  Why are you opposed to fixing SS?  Again, I'm not hypocritical on this issue.  My retirement was just raided yet I understand why and accept my plight.  I should have known better than to be a teacher.

5)  Agree/disagree- We should slowly replace Medicare with vouchers to be used by the elderly to purchase private insurance.

What would be the difference if vouchers replaced medicare if the treatments and visits were still paid for?  Is there something I am missing in this argument?  Still, I am not, Paul Ryan is not ... in favor of eliminating Medicare.  IT HAS TO BE FIXED!

6)  Agree/disagree - A sick individual in need of significant medical care, who chose not to purchase health insurance despite earning enough money to afford it, should receive hospital care at the expense of society, (he hasn't enough assets to cover his very costly medical needs).

At the expense of some of his assets.  The reality is that there are various charities out there that would help.  Remember some of the Catholic Hospitals do care for such people already.  BTW, I don't know what you mean by "earning enough money to afford it."  That could mean a lot of thing from a judgemental analysis of someone who barely makes it to someone who squandered their money.

7)  Agree/disagree - Bill Clinton is/was a Socialist.

Had Clinton succeeded in doing what the current President has, then he would be a Socialist.  Dewey, I never thought that Democrats were Socialist until now.  The reason I have changed is the way this administration wants to invade our everyday life.  EPA, how we eat, lying to us at every turn to get what they want and then lying some more.  Examples, obamacare (not a tax, keep doctor, keep insurance, ...) Bengazhi was due to a video, ..., most transparent administration but refuses to even let photographers in, won't address press corps, well, you get the point.

8)  Agree/disagree - Spending $40 Billion over eight years to help eliminate Aids in Africa was worth raising our National debt.

I am in favor of helping America.  We have our own problems.  We need to address that more.  What could $40 Billion buy in America?  How many jobs could it create?  How many of our sick could be treated?  I am opposed to that.  Fix America!  Why should I have to pay?

9)  Agree/disagree - American citizens have a right to "preventive care".

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that so the answer is no.  Americans have the right to live in what was once the greatest country in the world.  We will spend enough to bankrupt America, which is the goal, and will become totally socialist soon.  Until then, you can chase your dreams here and decide your own fate.  That is how it was in the country I was born in.  Not so much now.  If you work hard, our government criticizes you.  You will soon have the right to preventive care although who is going to pay for it?  There won't be an America left.

10)  Agree/disagree - The President should have the power to sign executive orders.

Yes the President should.  Executive orders are subject to Judicial Review and can be struck down.  However, charges have to be brought.  I don't understand why that hasn't happened yet.  Presidents have had their actions shot down. FDR used an executive order for the Japanese Internment Camps.  Ironically, no liberals every talk about that and FDR.  Congress can intervene in executive orders as well by stopping all funding.  George Washington was the first to use it and every president since has used executive orders.

11)  Agree/disagree - Folks with pre-existing conditions should have access to purchasing an affordable health insurance policy.

Yes and I have stated before that I don't have a problem with our government creating an insurance bank for these people who can not get insurance from anyone else.  However, I don't believe that would be necessary.  Insurance companies will spring up where the market is just like motorcycle insurance.  When I was young and crazy and riding my motorcycle all the time, my insurance company didn't like the idea and raised my premiums.  I found a cheaper option.

12)  Agree/disagree - When including talk radio, internet, and Fox News, Conservative reporters have all the tools necessary to properly vet any and all Presidential candidates, and to reach the necessary audience that needs to be informed.

Joseph Goebbels demonstrated the power of the media.  Dewey, if you think that what happened to James Rosen is an accident then you are naive.  It was a direct threat to all conservative reporters and news stations and very reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s.

13)  Agree/disagree - Banning a fully automatic weapon is not an infringement on our second amendment rights to bear arms but banning a semi-automatic weapon would be an infringement on our second amendment rights.

I use firearms to protect my family and to hunt.  I think those are the terms that our Founding Fathers did as well.  I don't think that they would have a problem with this assertion.  I do understand the argument that someday one side will have automatic weapons and the other will have semi automatic.  yes, that day will come in America.  Abraham Lincoln said that "all of the armies of Europe could not take a drink from the Ohio River in the trial of a thousand years.  If America is to die, it will be though suicide."

Dewey, I do think that I have tried to address you questions.  I do take time off from the site as I can get caustic and I don't like me like that.

Take care,

Darrell

CoachB - Thanks for taking the time.  Let me focus on a couple of the more important issues on my list.  Let's start with gun regulations.

It's clear from my many posts I would like my State/community to have a say in the kind of gun laws we pass.  What I'd like to know is if all sides agree that we have the right to make laws regarding where guns can or cannot be taken?  When I said I was against semi-automatic weapons being sold in this Country, I was told I was infringing on the second amendment rights of others.  That surprised me.  Not the opposition but the claim we cannot ban certain weapons.  Now I don't believe this is true because some weapons are illegal today and I'm guessing it passed the SC test.  Am I wrong?  In any case, when we enter debate it's important to know how the opposition comes down.  Your answer left me still wondering.  Do you think my State/community has the right to legislate where guns cannot be taken or would any such law infringe on the second amendment rights of others?  In other words does the Constitution deny us this right?

With regards to SS and Medicare, I believe you're accurate in saying the moderate GOP is not calling for a phasing out these two programs, at least not publicly.  That said, the moderate GOP is a thing of the past and the Libertarians are running the show.  If I could get some of them to respond, you would find many who will admit they want to eventually phase out SS and Medicare over time.  These two programs don't belong in a self-reliant Country.  I'm not for the "over the top" ad of pushing Grandma over the cliff but the message is accurate when it relates to being on your own.  The far right, imo, is very willing to end both programs if given the chance.  As for vouchers, I'm sure it is hard to understand exactly what Ryan meant because rarely do you get the story of how it all plays out.  What I saw was a 92 year old survivor with a voucher that would come nowhere near what was needed to cover a health insurance policy for somebody his age.  Btw, I'm for fixing these programs but it's not the end of the world if they aren't.  These programs can be part of the budget just like defense is if these folks can't agree on fixes.  Nevertheless, I'd prefer they remain on their own budget like today.

Finally, I'll just repeat my earlier opinion that the main stream media criticism has grown old and has no merit.  The Conservative media is so vast these days that if they can't vet our politicians properly, or get their message out, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Take care and thanks for your response.  Enjoy the season.

Actually if you want to jump through the hoops, you can own a full automatic machine gun.

Fully-automatic weapons were first available to purchase in the early 1910s. Crime caused by automatics was never an issue until the prohibition of liquor was passed in 1919. During this time-frame (1919 to where prohibition was repealed in 1933) organized crime was mounting and the use of sub-machine guns (specifically the Tommy gun) was commonplace.Following the lead of several states who restricted the sale of machine guns, newly appointed President Franklin D. Roosevelt made it a point to place federal restrictions on automatic weapons. FDR campaigned vigorously to regulate the automatics market, famously saying in 1934- "Federal men are constantly facing machine-gun fire in the pursuit of gangsters."The result of FDR's impassioned effort was the creation of the National Firearms Act of 1934. This groundbreaking legislation (which is still active) forces a citizen to go through a comprehensive process before obtaining an automatic weapon. Possession of automatics entail:a minimum $200 tax paid to the IRS, and an approval from the United States Treasury Department.
