Who is getting pitcher Shannon Saile? The million dollar question...She is currently at FIU...Weigh in on where she might end up...There is a lot at stake...Inquiring minds want to know...

She pitched against Florida this year and was very impressive...

Dean at Auburn would probably take her in a heartbeat but may have trouble getting her out of Florida…..Dean already has a couple of Florida stars with McCrackin and Rivera...

Torina would take her in a heart beat too , there is so much inexperience on the mound for LSU. Just suggestions, whoever gets her will be very lucky

I am guessing she ends up at Florida or FSU. If FIU's restrictions are no Florida I'll be curious to see what happens

Can they restrict her from choosing a college in Florida?

I think she goes to Florida State, like Kylee Hanson did. FSU is in need of a #2 pitcher and Saile can definitely be an ace for FSU.

Well they can make it so she sits out at least one year I thought

I don't see why a school can't have restrictions from transferring to local opponents, it happens in other sports as well.

I thought in Saile's case the coach wouldn't grant her a release to transfer period and that to me isn't right

The coach did not grant her release. She goes for her appeal meeting on Monday. They can place restrictions on where she can go if they do release her. If not, she will have to sit a year.

What do you mean if not? If she doesn't choose to accept the restrictions she will sit out a year or they can make her sit without restrictions?

It's rare for one of these committee's to 'get in the weeds' regarding restrictions.  Also rare for a committee not to grant the release. The only likely restriction might be a caveat regarding transferring to another league school . . . . not on the table anyway. These committees are supposed to be first and foremost concerned about the welfare of the student-athlete with little or no regard for the fortunes of the program.

If they do release her, yes, they can put restrictions on where she can go. If they do not release her at all, she will have to sit out a year.

But she does still have her three years to complete two playing?

I imagine FIU will try to at least restrict her from Florida schools when it comes down to it

I do not understand why the coach won't grant the release

Might be that the coach has a lot of time and money invested in the player. Feels betrayed,
just a thought.

I imagine that would suck as a coach, I don't know the details behind the scenes to make comments on this

But of course it's OK for coaches to leave.  Players can feel betrayed but they don't get to hold up a coach doing "what's best for them."

Probably so.

But being obstinate about the whole release deal is petulant & unprofessional. Coach not painting a very harmonious scenario for future recruits.

I'm hoping a plan to transfer isn't part of someone's goal when signing NLI.

not only about that (having a backup plan).  It's about how a coach treats players, generally.   Most people are cut of whole cloth, and when you see unseemly behavior in one context, it is likely to repeat in others.

In an employment context, would you want to go work for a company that has a reputation of suing every employee that leaves for a competitor?

Yes, that's a good point.   Is it ever the case that an athletic department makes a coach sit out a year, or restricts to which schools that coach may seek employment?

I think the broader answer to that is no. It does open up the Pandoras box of other debates.

Smaller, Mid Major schools being used as stepping stones to bigger programs
Coaches in non P5 programs still able to cut players AND their athletic money
Coaches leaving for their own personal interests.

Coachz is it safe to say she is choosing between USC , Bama , UGA , Arkansas , and Oklahoma? I don’t think she could go wrong with any of these schools.
Thanks.

I’m pretty disappointed she didn’t even look at AU. We badly need a second pitcher and the fact that we didn’t make an effort to at least get her on campuse concerns me.

Maybe Saile wasn't interested. Coach Dean not the easiest guy to play for. Understandable.
