No why?

I am a big LSU Softball fan, I am extremely dissapointed with how the program is run now. I want LSU to get back to an elite level and content for national titles, we won't as long as Beth has these horrible assistant coaches who can't teach defense or offense.

Beth is an average coach who lucked out on some good pitchers. She can't develop players or recruit at a high level. Its going to be seen in the next few seasons, you will see this program tank if nothing major is done. Landry and Jaquish are gone so LSU is in for a rude awakening next season.

LSU Softball now is somewhat embarrassing, we keep playing players who wouldn't even start on even the worst teams in the conference. Sanchez and Quinn should not have scholarships in the first place. Both are horrible hitters and their defense is inconsistently wild and bad

Its pretty apparent to anyone who watches and follows the program closely that certain players get to play as bad as they want and still be given the job. Thats why LSU has so many transfers every year, none of the players respect Torina. She plays favorites and basically gives the middle finger to the rest of the team. Four players reported Torina to the Athletic Department last October because of how she belittles players and degrades them beyond the game of softball.

I follow the team closely but the environment the coaches have created has been cancerous for year.

Jaquish, as amazing as she is, was the most hated player in the program the last four years. She originally threatened to leave if she didn't get what she wanted. She is a diva to many, many of the current players have zero things nice to say about her.

As far as Smith goes, a few rumors have it that Torina got a few players to tell Smith she would kick Hoover off the team  if she stayed. She even threatened to cut Walljapsers innings significantly to keep her.

Dawson though was a big LSU fan growing up and its sad she can't complete her dream. A friend of the Dawson family said a lot of the players treated her like crap while she was there. Combine that with the fact that Torina held her back on purpose, probably why she left. I mean that last at bat verse Florida in the CWS was a dead give away that she didn't give a crap and a big middle finger to the staff.

I can understand the frustration

Why would Torina bench Smith for the playoffs if she wanted to keep her?

Torina found out she was looking to transfer. She kicked Smith out of practice a lot after and didn't even acknowledge her. She told players not to even associate or even talk to Smith as well apparently.

Cunningham got in trouble a few times during the season. She was late to practice quite a few times, she was using a CELL PHONE during a game, she skipped classes sometimes as well. Things got even more hostile this off season, Beth yanked her scholly two weeks before classes.

Bottom line is if you screw up with Torina, go pack your bags, she will treat you like dirt the rest of your time here for one mistake.

It's fans apparently, given that LSU is the only program in the county to have made each of the last 3 WCWS.

I completely understand where Grindz is coming from. I too long for the days before Torina was at LSU, back in their dynasty days of winning multiple National Championships.

When did LSU win a National Championship?

For those who watch all the games its apparent that we don't outcoach anyone.

Torina is not even the best "coach" in LSU Softball History. Sure she brought in some solid pitchers but other than that, her success has been due to lucky matchups in the post season

Ole Miss is about to pass up LSU, MSU is out recruiting us too.

What Beth needs to do is stop letting the parents get involved. She literally lets the parents and family members dictate how everything is ran. Its getting beyond out of hand now. She needs to get control of this before the season starts.

Hopefully we don't have too brutal of a schedule, we need all the wins we can get before SEC play, where we can't hit our way out of a wet paper bag

I am not Eric Ducote, nor am I a parent of a player on the team. Just a big follower of the program. Just extremely dissapointed with what Torina has done with this program and the direction its headed. She did well at first while here but got a little lazy on the recruiting trail. LSU does not have any top ten classes coming in anytime soon

Really it doesn't matter what your name is. "Dude who's embarrassing himself" is a good enough fill in.

Everything I am stating about the program is a fact and reality

Torina will not be at LSU much longer after Hoover and Walljasper are gone unless she fires her worthless assistants

I'm guessing sarcasm isn't your specialty.

For my money, this intolerable situation at LSU will NEVER change and the trainwreck Torina has clearly made of this fine program will NEVER get better until the Tigers end their current annoying habit of contending at Oklahoma City every year for the national championship.   This.   Must.  End.

LSU will never win under Torina since the offense is little league bad. The players all look lost against competent pitching

Once Hoover and Walljasper are gone, its going to get bad

Gorsuch was a horrendous over hyped recruit and we all saw she was trash in the circle

Sunseri is an average pitcher who got embarrassed in the All American game

LSU's only hope is Wickersham for the next class and even she is pretty average, her pitches are extremely flat. She plays pretty bad teams in NOLA

Louisiana as a whole produces a lot of subpar softball players, who are mechanically flawed in many areas

Grindz, this is a true statement.........But, talking about individual players is not a kind thing to do...........They don't deserve that, IMO............

The dark side of increased TV and popularity means more scrutiny on everyone involved.  Look at the $ sports.  How many next morning conversations are calling collegiate players out by name and everyone is cool with it?  You want to be on the big stage with the bright lights? Expect Simon Cowell and his keyboard cowboy posse to roll in and start shooting.

You just stepped over the line with this comment.  Personal attacks are about as low as one can get.  If I can stoop to you level, you have exposed yourself to be nothing more than a scum bag.

Agreed. That kid is a kid and that comment was extremely uncalled for and classless. I don't know who made Grindz feel like his evaluation of a player is relevant. I do know that what goes on behind the scenes at a program changes what happens on the field. For all you know, the pitching coach turned her inside out and changed her top to bottom and then threw her out there to get "evaluated" as trash by a shmo such as yourself. You have no idea how good that kid is or is not. I'm not partial to LSU one way or the other, but frankly, this whole thread is poo when you're disparaging a team that was just at the WCWS and has been multiple times in the last few years. When their finish falls off, come back and then perhaps it'll be relevant.

Really? That's disappointing. I kept ignoring it as the whole premise was dumb until some arm chair quarterback who's likely never thrown the first pitch (much less for a P5 team) decided to say that a kid was "trash". I'm certain that I haven't changed his behavior in any way, but I couldn't let it pass. Beyond that -- the thread is still dumb.

Didn't see your post.  Attacking individuals is obviously pretty low-class, but it happens in every sport (doesn't make it right).  The fact that anyone would put any worth in the comments after everything that has been written is pretty sad as well.

At the end of the day, the players who are being talked about will probably be talked about the rest of their lives.  Gotta learn to ignore it, and know they at the end of the day, they got the scholarship for a reason.

Every team in the SEC is improving and Beth has a lot more competition now on the recruiting trail.  Beth needs to backfill Walljasper and Hoover or things could get ugly in the Bayou...

Unfortunately it sounds like Cunningham cooked her own goose and not for just "one mistake". Can't blame the coach for that one.

Hey Grindz, if you are so close to the program and know so much about what their ills are then maybe you can be part of the solution.  Maybe just catch up with ole Beth and share your diagnosis of the team shortcomings, and then maybe you'll have a future as a volunteer assistant coach or something.  Then once you implement your ideas and strategies, with Beth's blessings of course, the Tigers will either self implode or will win that natty.  Why just make comments on a discussion board when you have a chance to make more of a positive impact.  [idea]
