Gabby Plain walks her 3rd batter of the inning. Either she's having trouble finding the umpire's strike zone or she's a little rusty. No Mike Brown audio yet, and Flosports is a bit iffy. Huskies coming to the plate as. we go to the bottom of the 1st with North Carolina ahead 1-0. Go Dawgs

Husky bats finally wake up, starting with a couple of bunts in the 3rd inning, and moved on to a 9-1 win in 5 innings. Alvelo came on in the 2nd inning and gets the win. Sami Reynolds started her career with a single, Morganne Flores caught and played 1st base, Sis Bates went 3-4, Flores got 2 RBI's- everyone contributed. Two games tomorrow. Go Dawgs.

Man, Plain did not look good. She struggled with the strike zone but she really didnt have command of her pitches either. Hopefully she looks better tomorrow and there isnt something wrong.

Go Lions!

I'm glad to hear Manti is finding success!

Five Huskies made their collegiate debuts in the game. Sami Reynolds earned her first career RBI, while Reynolds and SilentRain Espinoza would each have their first career hits. Ari Quiñones also scored a run the game's final run on Bates' game-ending single. Livy Schiele and Madison Huskey also debuted.

ND 3 UW 2 (Final)

Gibson RBI double apparently scored Torraca, Gibson thrown out at third.

Explanation: Torraca at second was not officially entered, was called out at home when ND protested.

What the hell happened at the end of the ND - Washington game ? Someone bat out of turn or what ? Looked like Washington had tied it up in the bottom of the 8th and then suddenly it was over . Of course the Flo guy had no clue what was going on .

A team effort, for sure. An error, a baserunning snafu, and a Coaches error. In 10 years of watching Husky softball, I've seen lots off the first two, but had never seen Tarr make a mistake like that. She's usually the one tha't t does that to other teams. Oh well, there goes our perfect season. It seems we still can't beat the ACC.

Yeah that’s such a BASIC error. Damn. How frustrating!

Is Duke in the ACC?  It is a basic error, but the ITB is so seldom a factor in College games that it is at least quasi-understandable.

I wasn’t watching closely (it was on in the background during dinner). Did Plain get called for IP’s early in the Notre Dame game?

If she did I missed it.  Watched most of that game and she looks like she has made a concerted effort to stop her leaping. While she still bends that knee she was keeping her foot down nicely.

Yes. The coverage got the ball count messed up because they didn't register the called "ball." I think a walk resulted, but not sure.

There was also some discussion between UW coach and the umpire, though that seemed to be going on for most of the game.

Getting weird out there in the PV heat. Alvelo takes over in relief to start the inning and was called for 2 or more illegal pitches that resulted in walks because of the count (the second 'walk' took away a sweet double play). The next batter fouled out but got another chance for an Illegal pitch. The illegal pitch is due to Alvelo's rock back that took the back foot off of contact with the rubber. I think the 3rd base ump called them all.
It's hard to tell because of Flosoftball's no replay possible, and the announcer couldn't figure it out either. Huskies up 6-0 in the 5th. Go Dawgs.

That's the illegal pitch call that I mentioned in another thread coming out of a preseason intrasquad scrimmage last weekend that was worked by SEC umps.  They called it all day on 4 different pitchers.  Saw a little of it this weekend, but not nearly as much.  Have to credit those umps for emphasizing it last weekend so they were better prepared.

Interestingly, their 26 lob in the first 4 games matched their opponents.

But 13 more in the final tilt (to 7 for Baylor) pushes the weekend total to 39.With only 29 runs scored.

Perhaps it's poor slugging. Only 5 extra base hits this weekend with only 1 dinger.

The hitting is happening. But concerting seems to be out of their reach.

Flores is a welcome addition back.

Pat Moore pitched well too.

Lucky team getting to stay in Mexico!

Nice rookie debuts:

Sami Reynolds: 7-18, .389, 4r, 4rbi, 2sb

SilentRain Espinoza: 5-9, .556, 1r, 3rbi

Both had singles in their first college at-bats.

We'll have to see if speed on the basepaths will substitute for lumber in the yard.

So it’s top 7. Two runners on and a batter comes up who has already hit two home runs off your pitcher.

Why on earth would you not walk her?

(Edit meant to type top 7)
