I wasn't asking so about her so much as the upperclassmen in response to "No guarantee that everyone will be renewed."

Cochran (Jr.) the only one that hasn't played a major role and could fit this. Perhaps Werre (Soph).

I guess I'm trying to predict what may happen.

There are 20 listed on the roster. So even dropping the 2 seniors and the 2 that I mentioned, were at 21 if we bring in the 5 mentioned.

Not sure that partial scholarships are for four years.

Aubert was dropped from the team, so....

Not everyone coming in or on the roster are on scholarship. Some are walk-ons, who are more likely to be local recruits paying in-state tuition. For them, just getting into UW might be reward enough vs getting their tuition and books paid at, say, Central Washington.

Aguilar may be one the most complete players I've had the privilege to watch. Wish her well!

Why would you assume alcohol was involved?

Anyways, fellow Husky fans:

How would you say this year's team compared to the last UW team to make the WCWS (2013's team)?

That year we had 2 dependable pitchers and, something that may have gone unnoticed, that 2013 team was one of the national leaders in fielding, whereas, this year's team was ordinary, at best, in that respect.

So, next season?

1. Bates SS
2. Van Zee 3B
3. DePont DP
4. Flores C
5. Thomas 1B
6. Gallagher 2B
7. Milloy RF
8. Melhart RF
9. Burdick CF

P: Alvelo RP, Manti RP, Schreyer RP, Plain RP, Cochran RP (too bad we can't trade for a lefty)

Subs: Gibson U, Ogasawara C, Simons U, Werre U, Carideo C, Hee 1B, Allen U, Helm U, Kuape U

To you and anyone else who wants to reply:  Which UW team (2013 or 2017) do you think would win if both teams were put on the field against each other?

My opinion:  I think 2017 would win a single game matchup but 2013 would win a best of three series.

I think 2017 handles the 2013 team

I think Alvelo is slightly better than Inglesby or Walker and I think 2017's hitting is a little better overall.  That's why I think 2017 wins a one game championship.

However, if it were a series, 2013's pitching depth would carry 2/3 games IMO.

I think Alvelo is a little bit more than slightly better (which is why it's a travesty she wasn't an all-American this year as Inglesby was a 3-time all-American although some of that was for her hitting). Hitting a little better, as you say. I think the 2017 team could scratch out 2\3 in a 3-game series if they played well (which they didnt always do).

THIS I agree with... No offense to Inglesby or anyone else in the circle, but Alvelo, making a third start in a series is still better by wide margin than anyone on that 2013 team making a second start

And, the 2017 offense also IMO was markedly better than that team's

An honest opinion from a rival.

I know Oregon tossed away their five-peat in that game against the Huskies at Jane Sanders, but UW winning a series in Eugene says it all to me.

Alvelo was incredible this year.

For those wondering what Krystal Aubert is doing, she was playing for the Sacramento All-Stars against Team USA this past week, starting at SS!

Thanks for the update. I've often wondered what happened to her. I hope she continues to play. My favorite memory of her was when she threw a runner out at third while playing right field.

Mine was the 2016 LSU series where she threw out the runner going to first from right field. It was a scoring situation for LSU and they thought they had won the game and they were cheering and jumping around. But from the look on the runner at first's face she knew she was out and so did the ump.

Mike Roberts named head coach at Buffalo:

http://www.gohuskies.com/news/2017/8/21/softball-roberts-named-head-coach-at-buffalo.aspx

Not announced yet, but Lance Glasoe will undoubtedly step back into the pitching coach role. He was previously pitching coach in 2008-14, coaching Lawrie, Inglesby, and Walker in the WCWS. Jenn Salling was a graduate assistant coach and graduate assistant manager at UW the last two years - there's a good chance she'll step up to be an assistant coach.
