Tulsa Elite’s Shelbi Redfearn chooses D1 Baylor University!!

Shelbi Redfearn

NCAA D1

Waco, TX

The Tulsa Elite Gold is pleased to announce Shelbi Redfearn, a Class of 2010 Outfielder from Stillwater HS (Ok.), has verbally committed to accept a softball scholarship to attend, NCAA Div 1 & Top 25 Ranked, Baylor University in Waco, TX.

Shelbi is the daughter of Darren & Kasi Redfearn of Stillwater, OK and plays HS Ball for Coach Angela Knott.  She recently broke the Career HR Record at Stillwater HS that was previously held by Katie Norris (2008 Grad now at OU).

Shelbi joined the Tulsa Elite Gold in the Spring and already had a few Regional D1 programs watching her, but quickly attracted the attention of the majority of the Big 12, SEC and many Top 25 programs with her massive power and hustle.  She had a phenomenal inaugural season playing for the Elite and finished the summer with an impressive 17 HRs. and was heavily recruited by many Top Programs.

When asked about her decision Redfearn said, "I chose Baylor for many reasons.  It was apparent to me from the get go that the coaches had a strong love for God.  That is really important to me.  My faith means a lot.  With Baylor being a Baptist school I knew I would get the spiritual support I need.  The coaches and the players are the people I want to spend the next four years of my life with.”

In addition to Baylor, Shelbi went on many College Visits & had Offers from Florida State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulsa, Auburn and Others, but really loved everything about Baylor.

Redfearn continued;
“The academic facility is top-notch.  I like the fact that there are only about 14,000 students that attend Baylor.  That will make it easier to learn because the class size will be smaller.  Graduating from Baylor would say a lot because Baylor is one of the best academic programs in the Nation.  I have always wanted to play Division I ball!  My dream has come true and I am excited that I am getting the chance to play in one of the best conferences with one of the best teams and look forward to playing for Coach Moore and Coach Lumley."

Elite coach, Jeff Filali on Redfearn: We are very proud of Shelbi’s performance this summer and feel that she has made the best decision to pursue her goals on the field, in the classroom and in life.  Shelbi is a very special athlete that a coach is blessed to be able to coach, but she also remains very humble and just wants to play ball, while getting her degree.  She does all the little things that spark an entire team’s chemistry, her teammates love to be around her and she is one of our many role models for our younger teams to look up to.  She hits the ball like Mantle, plays all out like Rose and has the enthusiasm of Mays.  She works very hard on her own and is very dedicated to improving every aspect of her game; she comes from a great family and is a great kid.  She has the potential to be a very strong addition for Coach Moore.  She becomes the Elite’s 5th Big 12 Scholarship Commitment within the past 14 months, joining Oklahoma State’s Amy Graham ’09 & Taylor Woodall ’11 along with Oklahoma’s Javen Henson ’10 & Callie Parsons ‘11."

University of Florida head softball coach Tim Walton announced two players who signed national letters of intent to play for the Gators next season. Kasey Fagan of Dunnellon, Fla., and Cheyenne Coyle of West Hills, Calif., will don the Orange and Blue starting in the 2010-11 season.

“We are excited to make two of the best high school players in the country part of the Florida softball program,” Walton said. “They will make an immediate impact and we are expecting big things from Kasey and Cheyenne over the next four years.”

Kasey FaganFagan, a 5-foot-11-inch righty who Walton called a true utility player who can play a variety of positions because of her versatility, played for the 2009 Class 4A State Champion Dunnellon High School coached by her father, Kevin Fagan. The Tigers, with a 32-1 record, were the first Marion County fast-pitch softball team to earn a trip to the Final Four, the first state champions of any kind since 2005 and the first girls’ state champs since 1986. They ended the season ranked fourth in ESPN Rise Fab 50 Poll. Fagan herself racked up many accomplishments, including the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, the Dairy Farmers Player of the Year and the Star Banner Player and Pitcher of the Year. She was named to the Class 4A First-Team All-State team her junior season after earning second-team honors as a sophomore and third-team honors as a freshman. In 2009, she also earned ESPN Rise First-Team All-America honors and earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School All-South Regional First Team as a pitcher while earning national honorable mention.

Fagan plays travel ball for Team North Florida was previously coached by current UF volunteer assistant coach Coy Adkins. Last summer, the team placed fifth at the 2009 Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) Gold National Championships and won the Champions Cup in Irvine, Calif.

The current senior is ranked No. 1 academically in her class of over 300 students. She is a member of National Honors Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Her father won three Super Bowl rings as a defensive end with the San Francisco 49ers.

Cheyenne CoyleCoyle is a 5-foot-7-inch shortstop in her senior year at Chatsworth High School. The Chancellors, coached by Kristen Rodney, finished the 2009 season 24-7. She led the league with 14 home runs with 47 RBIs in 2009 and was third in Los Angeles County in homers. A four-year varsity softball player, Coyle earned second-team all-league honors once and first-team honors twice. In 2009, she was a first-team all-city selection and earned honorable mention for an all-area honor while being named Chatsworth’s MVP. In 2007, she was the Rookie of the Year while leading the league in home runs (5) and batting average (.457).

The righty also made a stellar relief appearance on the mound, pitching seven innings of long relief, tallying a 4-3 in a key league game in her first appearance in the circle late in the season. She plays travel ball for the Orange County Batbusters coached by Gary Haning.

Coyle is an accomplished athlete, who also is a two-year letterwinner in volleyball. She earned second-team all-league honors in 2007 and first-team honors in 2008. She has been on the academic honor roll every year of high school and a scholar-athlete since 2006. She is a member of the 2010 Class Steering Committee and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Tulsa Elite’s Kaytie Spencer-2011-commits to D1 University of Central Arkansas!!

Kaytie Spencer

NCAA D1

Conway , AR

The Tulsa Elite Gold is pleased to announce Kaytie Spencer, a Class of 2011 Catcher/OF from Purcell HS (Ok.), has verbally committed to accept a softball scholarship to attend, NCAA D1 University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ar

All 9 starters and 100% of the 2010 and 2011 class who played this past summer for the Tulsa Elite Gold have now committed Division One.

Spencer is the daughter of Dean & Stephanie Spencer of Purcell , OK and plays HS Ball for Coach Jamie McCoy-Roberts.  She carries a 4.00 GPA and scored a 22 on her ACT.

Kaytie has been recruited by many Top Programs, since joining the Tulsa Elite fulltime, including UCA, Wichita State, Ole’ Miss, Iowa and others, but really loved the opportunity to continue her College Career with Tulsa Elite teammates Kasey Britt ‘08, Kelsie Armstrong ‘09 and Tarra Underhill ‘10.

When asked about her decision Spencer said, "I have always dreamed of playing Division One softball and I am just overwhelmed because my dream is coming true.  I remember when Kelsie committed to UCA last year how we joked about me going there to catch her.  Then when Tarra committed, we talked about it again.  Finally, when Coach Kuhn started recruiting me this summer, I began to realize how much fun it would be to continue playing with my friends.   Every time a new school would start recruiting me, in the back of my mind I knew I really wanted to wait until I could visit UCA first.  I am excited about the opportunity to continue playing with several of my teammates and friends and to getting to catch Kelsie for 4 more years."

Elite coach, Jeff Filali on Spencer: “Kaytie is a phenomenal Catcher with a very strong arm and very quick feet.  It is very rare that anyone steals with Kaytie behind the plate.  The pitchers all love to have her behind the plate.  She has a very consistent bat and hits a lot of doubles in the gaps.  She works very hard on her own, comes from a great family and is a great kid.  She will make the Elite’s 4th UCA athlete and has the potential to be a very strong addition for Coach Kuhn."

The first 2013 that I know of....

"Congratulations to Samantha (Sambo) Montes, 2013 Pitcher/Utility for Glory Gold (Adkins) and for Burleson on her verbal commitment to Baylor University. Sam is a great young lady that is blessed with a lot of ability. She joined our team in August and has had a number of Big XII schools, WAC and SEC schools want to make offers after watching her play this fall. She and her family have always wanted to attend Baylor University and Coach Moore and Coach Lumley made her their top priority in the 2013 class."

I bet the phone conversation between Alameda and Walton was fun and jovial.

2013 Commitments!!!!!!
Why do these Travel Coaches and Parents feel the need to chest thump
that their 14 year old High SchoolFreshman
who hasn't even taken the SAT/ACT
or established one year of a high School GPA
has decided on her college 5 Seasons away?
Thats right they will not be playing until the Spring of 2014
and here it is Fall 2009.
now that is Madness
We know it has to be the Travel Ball Coach or the Parents since the College Coach can't comment on recruits til after NLI.

I've heard of college coaches asking a committed recruit to call SPY or whoever to get the word out not only so other coaches will stop recruiting them but so players of the same position/type will quit emailing the college coach.

Also, when word gets around about a verbal (it WILL get around even if you personally don't talk about it much), some publications will contact the player wanting to do a story. It's not always the parents yelling it from the rooftops.

I guess part of the "publication" of these verbals could include the Activities of the Coach as you described, I have never heard of that actually happening.  The majority of the publication is from TB Coaches and Parents.

The TB websites are eager to get this information posted on their sites so that future potential players can see how it would be to their "advantage" to join their teams.

Actually, the College Coaches ask the TB team to post Verbals so other coaches and players find out.   Would not believe the traffic on our website after we posted it on our team website and I only posted it on the individual player's page, not on our home page.
