Significant upsets of 2018. Example: unranked teams beating highly ranked teams. Don't post #13 beating #10 and call it an upset.

FAU 3-2 Tennessee

Boston 4-3 Oklahoma

Boston over OU seems like a major upset.  The Terriers were 25-27 last year.  They had 8 hits and OU committed three errors.  BU does have 11 players from California, and maybe two from Massachusetts.

Auburn narrowly avoided the upset by St.Francis last night.  Carlson detractors will be happy to hear that the Red Flash were all over her with 7 hits, including two dingers.  They led 3-1 going to bot 5, as AU had been unable to solve Abby Trahan.  Then our 9 hitter unleashed a 2-run homer, her second ever and first since April 2016, to tie the game.  Martin came in and struck out 5 of the next 6 batters for SFU.  In bot 7, Tannon Snow walked on 4 pitches to lead off.  Maresette pinch-ran and stole second.  With one out, Draper laid down a bunt, and Trahan threw wild to first, allowing Maresette to score from second.

It was a little different today, with Auburn winning 5-0 behind Martin's 2-hit shutout.

Arkansas beats #21 Utah behind great performances from Autumn Storms (4 in, 0 ER) and Fr Mary Haff (3 in, 0 ER, 6 K's). Not as huge a surprise as BU over OU, but definitely eye-catching.

Ole Miss and Arkansas rockin' some good wins.....Oregon usually scoring a lot of runs, and to hold them to zero is not easy....

Nah SEC will probably give it to an Auburn or Georgia pitcher for beating seriously overmatched competition. [biggrin]

Well, Ole Miss has a deep-seated problem to this end. The pressure on Lee to throw about 270 innings this year is going to be immense

I understand that OU had 12 players/staff on the team suffering with the flu. The Sooners gave up the lead after making 3 errors in the sixth inning which allowed 2 runs.

That would an attempted East Coast smarty school dig against OU.

Yeah, true but playing the "we had the sniffles" card is pretty weak too.  So is drawing any conclusions about EC smarty school or OU fans based on first time posters.

Everyone loves to run with the narrative that Oklahoma struggled early last year. When the closest thing to a bad loss is against Notre Dame, that is just not true

Just 3 errors on the board but 5 hard ground balls that should not have been problems for the infield.

SO TRUE.

Although I think they could have still come back (easily), that drop dead time really saved their @sses!

Aggies are going to struggle against the better SEC teams in a 3-game series. Just my opinion.

Wow.... that is a crock of crap

On a pre-determined drop-dead... the score at drop-dead should be official...period

The totally mindless OU envy runs unabated on this forum.

Still, the Sooners were beaten by a team they clearly had no business losing to.  Congratulations, BU, for knocking off the (then) No. 1 ranked team in the nation.  You'll hear no excuses from me.

It’s college softball. Any solid team can beat a great team if the solid team has a hot pitcher, the great team doesn’t play good defense and momentum starts to go The way of the underdog. That’s what makes it a great sport to follow.
