What actually has happened? I mean she seemed to be happy on social media and stuff, but as always, there's more than what meets the eye

To be honest we will probably never find out... UGA is so private with things like this.

yes I know I hate it so much. I'm pretty sure most every other school is very public with these kinds of things. Kind of like when aldrete left Tennessee it was all over the softball world news. But I'm baffled. I was kind of wanting more home runs this season but with her departure, that seems very unlikely.

Rumor I am hearing is they decided they just wanted to be regular students.  Not sure if any of them were receiving athletic money, but if they were just getting the Hope Scholarship, they can do that without spending 5 hours/day on softball.

Orrrrr, maybe she wasn't going to play her position of choice, and maybe not even
full time, and just left. Funny how it always comes back to coaching staffs being "abusive". Sounds like a convenient excuse for sure.

this sounds more like what the issue is because I'm sure she was on scholarship bc she's from mobile Alabama, so I doubt she'd go that far, and out of state, for no scholarship funds

After seeing it retweeted several times (my apologies for not remembering the name of the OP), I’ll just drop this (as well as my thoughts) here:

These student athletes are not or do not exist solely for our entertainment. These are real people living real, often tough lives, and so as pressing as it might be to want all the information... It isn’t your right. Privacy, on the other hand, is very much their right.

I wish these ladies the best of luck in ALL of their ventures, as well as thank them for their work as DGD (damn good dawgs, for those not familiar). They are all outstanding young women (or so I have heard) and I hope that life treats them well.

we all agree with you I'm sure, we just like to know things about the program. It's not as if I'm demanding information I'm just curious.

That leaves only 1 veteran righty (Dicarlo) in the batting lineup!!

There’s been enough smoke coming out of the uga softball program that someone has to have seen the fire by now.

What statement do you want them to release? Which of these would work for you: “Player A has left the program because she did not like the interactions she was having with the coach(es)” or “Player A did not like playing in this environment so she found somewhere else to play” or “Player A left because her athletic scholarship amount dropped and she could no longer afford to continue her softball career here” or “Player A realized that she didn’t really love the game anymore and wanted to focus on education/friendships/family”?

Moral of the story, if you wanna know ask questions in a private setting and don’t look to a public message board to find your answers. People talk, most just aren’t willing to blast all the reasons in a public setting.

Take the curiosity to PMs and you might learn more.

So what does this do for our infield? I'm guessing Febrey at 1st, and assuming DiCarlo stays at 3rd--do Milz and Doggett play the two middle spots (can one of them play SS?), or does Bryan come in to SS, where she started last year? Seems like her speed would be an asset in OF, but infield may be a greater need at this point. Or do we have an incoming freshman who looks like starter material?

Dogget at 3rd, DiCarlo at short, Milz at 2nd, Febrey at 1st?

To the best of my knowledge, Bryan played CF the majority of her TB career, so if she is the best option Lu has at SS, that does not bode well for the defense!

With all the youth on the team it wouldn't shock me if one of the of the incoming freshman takes the SS position.

Do not be surprised if Savana Sikes is a starter in the infield as a freshman this year.

Savana is a better option at SS than Bryan if she is hitting well enough to make the starting lineup.

Did she graduate early? She is a señor this year.

The UGA website has Ciara Bryan listed as IF.  Based on her limited time at short last year, if she is the best option they have in the IF it will make for a very long year.  She is much better suited for CF.  The Dawgs defense was pretty bad last year and with Lacey's departure it doesn't appear to be any better this year.   Maybe a healthy Milz makes a difference.

Does anyone think Lu goes on the hotseat if there is a repeat of last year?

Missing Dickey won’t hurt. Sumerlin will, she was always solid, but UGA could always afford to lose Dickey.

And hey, for what it’s worth, Ms. Bryan’s instagram has her as an outfielder so I think it’s safe to assume the roster is merely a goof. We could see anyone from Milz, McPherson, Doggett, Armistead or even Bryan at SS. Maybe even DiCarlo or Kar. Harding. It’ll be a wide open position— and yes, pains will definitely be felt there.

How does that 6-deep pitching roster look to be shaking out?

Haven’t seen it for myself, but seeing as they’re all still there I would assume the complaints are minimal (for now)

Can’t be any worse than last year. DiCarlo At SS would be a boost

Right now all 6 probably think they will be in the starting rotation...once games begin it will narrow down to 2-3 starters and 1-2 relievers, unless none of them can separate themselves.  Gotta figure Gray will be one of the starters.

Right now pitching is the least of Lu's concerns - she needs to figure out who can hit the ball and play defense.
