Will never happen. Have to be able to make a 50 foot throw minimum.

Bryan has an arm. Not sure what you're trying to insinuate.

Don't read into what onthecorner is saying... But she could be a All American right now at Cf .... She would have to learn how to play SS....

Interesting..... UGA has a lot of options for next year! We do need someone behind the plate that has an arm.. BUT that arm needs to be an accurate one? Have y'all not seen some of the throws Lacey has made first?? I think she should just stay at SS and work on things there.. Give O'neal a shot or Harding.... Febrey will be a little better at 1b next season..... I like Dickey at DP and Burton in the OF.. We also need some right handed batters in the lineup ...

I think your correct!!! It will be a nice turn around from this year...FR pitchers will be 2nd yr....2 new pitchers, so I really like the make up of team if everybody works hard to get better...

Febrey played some time at catcher this season. She could move there next season, put Sumerlin back at first and then let the middle infielders battle it out for the SS/2B positions. I think Burton replaces Sydni in the outfield on the basis that she seems to be a better defensive player than Dickey.

If they do, that will leave only one player listed on the roster at catcher for next year and that would leave UGA in a tough spot. Oneal has hit .183 on the year with one homerun and is 0-20 in SEC play. Talk on the board about converting Sumerlin or Febrey to catcher and that will be easier said than done. I think every position on the field is wide open for next year except for DiCarlo and Emanuel. Should be fun to watch in the fall.

Couldn't agree more. Dicarlo and Emanuel should be the only locks for next year. Every other position should be an open competition and may the best combination of offense/defense win. If you can't play defense you have no business being here. This isn't golf.

I agree that DiCarlo's bat should be in the lineup, but if we're discussing running Sumerlin (.936 fldg%) and Febrey (.971) off the field for poor defense, how is DiCarlo safe at .919?

only one who can play third IMO. She seems to have it anchored

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why Burton is leagues better than Dickey.

Burton definitely flew around the basepaths. She also flew into that wall to make a great grab. Maybe she's out of her slump and will be back in the lineup.

I dont remember seeing anything happen but did Sydni Emanuel get hurt? Or was Burton just substituted in?

This happened last night as well, if you remember. I think it's possible she's nursing an injury.

I didn't watch last nights game so I didn't see that. I guess it can't be anything too serious if she was still playing today.

It's a real bummer to be the odd one out of the SEC Tournament, but in many ways, I am acutely optimistic...Pitching can be effectively piecemeal at time, especially when Bass and Gray are completely dialed in. Ablan has shown flashes of brilliance, but we need consistency out of her headed into next year. In conference play (and against good pitching in general), our hitting has not been clutch. However, Burton and Febrey have both been hot lately, giving me hope as the postseason nears.

In my opinion, the best-case scenario is getting shipped to FSU, because:

  • Tallahassee is only 4 hours away from Athens (low-friction travel to Regionals) + UGA will be on 10+ days rest
  • Georgia and the coaching staff are very familiar with FSU, playing annually for as long as I can remember - both in the normal and Fall seasons
  • Georgia won their last official game* out against FSU in the 2016 World Series, despite not having their best offensive outing
  • FSU is 2-3 against the SEC this year - half of their losses are to the SEC and the other half are to Oregon
*Georgia lost to the Noles in Fall Ball (preseason)

If we don't get sent to FSU, I would be open to Baylor, JMU, or Louisiana.........

However, we will most likely be shipped to one of the top-tier PAC schools in Regionals as punishment for being so ludicrously average so far. I'm guessing Washington because the folks behind the committee love to play out that storyline (over and over and over again), but I wouldn't be surprised to get shipped to Arizona or Oregon either.

Lauren Mathis and top-ranked West Orange (26-3) are headed back to the Final Four in the FL high school state playoffs (9A). Mathis threw a two-hit shutout with 9K over Spruce Creek to secure the 2-0 victory. West Orange will play second ranked Palmetto (22-1) on Friday the 19th at 6:35pm EST.

You should be able to visit this link on Friday to watch the semifinals via a live video stream. [smile]

UGA looked pretty good today, from pitching to the offense.. I kinda like the move of Mcguire to 1b Oneal catching and Burton DP.... hopefully this will give us some momentum tomorrow as we face FSU!!

Today was another rebuttal to those who continue to insist that Kylie Bass can only go once through the batting order at most. Complete game #5 of the year, btw! Elsewhere in the tourney, Kaitlin Lee, who barely throws faster than Kylie, had yet another great outing. I'm hoping she'll help convince some people that a pitcher who doesn't throw anywhere near the upper 60s still really can consistently get hitters out.
In any case, Go Dawgs!

Lauren Mathis struck out 8 batters in 4 innings of work in the Florida 9A High School State Semifinals last night, leading West Orange to an 11-0 victory over Palmetto.

West Orange plays tonight for the hardware against Palm Harbor University, which still sounds more like a college than a high school to me. [rolleyes]

Livestream link here. (scroll down and over to the 9A game link - starts at 8pm ET.)

For those who missed it, Kylie threw 3.1 innings of hitless (and walkless) relief today against Jackson State - the same team she faced for 7 innings yesterday. They still couldn't solve her. When she's hitting her spots, she's very tough. Period. Look for her to get the ball against FSU tomorrow.

Granted they're not a top level team. She has, however, had very good outings against much better teams too, including Florida (7IP, 0R, 9K [admittedly spread over 3 games, but 4.1 of it was in 1 game]). Maybe she'll get hit tomorrow like Gray and Ablan did today. Even if it happens, it won't mean she's not a better pitcher than most are willing to give her credit for.

Bass is a gamer - point blank. Period.

With the way she has been throwing, I expect her to get the go tomorrow against FSU.
