Lu, your "secret" is out. Gray is incapable of pitching in pressure situations if not all together, as she simply has not improved. More than that, she just looks like she doesn't care out there. There are spurts of energy, moments where she seems to maybe care, but overall she's just not cutting it. Yes, I realize she is the "experienced one" alongside Bass, but they are getting hammered. Whatever the tactic is/was, it's not going to work. I THINK WE ALL SEE THAT NOW, OKAY? Avant and Ablan may be young and they might get hammered too, but Avant was by far the best arm we had all day and should be getting more respect than what she is. Ablan... I want to see more of her, enough said. At least if we lose with Avant and Ablan there is room to grow, make excuses if we need to, but Gray? She's flat-out refusing to make progress and it's hard to watch. Bass at least cares...

I said I wouldn't do it and I done did it. YOLO. [wave]

Here's the thing. Past results are usually the only indicator of future results. Leading up to the MNC, Gray was quantitatively cruising, which would explain why she has been getting the bulk of the innings. But, for those of us who have been watching closely, there have definitely been some qualitative red flags:

-Getting behind in the count.
-Walks.
-Lack of stamina.
-Fitness concerns.
-Lack of focus and mental grit.

The truth is that Gray has played second fiddle to Wilkinson for the past two years and is struggling to find her own as the leader in the circle. Compounding this issue is the fact that Ablan is not getting innings for one reason or another, Bass can only pitch 2-3 innings in a game, and Avant-Wilson is still getting her footing, despite pitching very well early on.

As the defense finds its groove, and with the emergence of one of the younger pitchers, we will see this team improve greatly over the course of the season. There is no writing on the wall that suggests this team will get anywhere close to Oklahoma City this year (the series at Arkansas may be the closest UGA gets to Interstate 40-West), but they will certainly get better.

If you would have told me in 2008 that Georgia would get to OKC after taking major whoopings (multiple run-rule losses) against Bama and Florida, I would have chuckled. This team is very young, very raw, and has a ways to go. Nonetheless, it will be exciting to see how this team grows over the next few years.

I just don't understand how you put Gray in during this type of situation, especially after how she pitched earlier in the day. Essentially just handing the game away. UGA really could've won this game but the score line makes it seem like they weren't able to handle UCLA whatsoever. UGA has the potential to beat some good teams as we saw a glimpse of tonight, but momentum comes and goes with pitching (and how well the defense backs the pitcher up.) Six unearned runs in one inning is ridiculous.

-Lack of stamina.
-Fitness concerns.

The Georgia coach has a thing for fat pitchers, which is really inexcusable in this day and age.  First Montemayor and now Gray...they are just in their own way...literally.  Come in shape or don't come at all.

Is Ablan in LHC's doghouse for some reason? Having faced Ablan, Avant and Bass on the TB circuit for years, and watching Gray melt in the circle in big games, I have to believe that Ablan gives the team the best chance to win.

Aaaaand Gray to start against Notre Dame. I have...misgivings. Also, look like we've totally shuffled the defensive lineup--C. Emanuel out (yikes...hopefully precautionary, but if she was limping in last night's game...well...yikes), Bryan in CF, Sumerlin to SS, Febrey at 1st. Not sure if this helps an obviously struggling defense or compounds the problem. Guess we'll know soon enough.

Avant might as well change her name to toilet paper with the way she continues to have to clean up behind Gray.

This is sad.

AVANT and ABLAN should be pitching! Gray isn't worth messing with

Something not good. They just took off a player in an ambulance. She was driven off the field in a golf cart.

Dawgs come charging back with four runs of their own (so far) in the top of the fifth, capitalized by a three-run monster shot from DiCarlo.

All tied at 5.

You have got to be kidding. You should go f*** yourself. End of story. There's literally nothing you can say that would make a comment like that excusable.

Agree - Janie I respect your opinions about softball but this is totally whack of you. Get over it.

Tie game, bases loaded, 1 out, Gray back in.

I wanted to be salty about this, but I'm also not sure you want to put either of your freshman pitchers into this situation. Going to be super-frustrated if we let this game get away, though.

Aaaand right on cue, an RBI single and a run on a throwing error.

Conference play this year is going to be...something.

I just turned on the ND game.  Has UGA used every pitcher EXCEPT Ablan?  What is LHC thinking?  Is Ablan in the doghouse and no one knows it?  This makes ZERO sense!
