Not a Texan, but setting on the front porch yesterday evening having an adult beverage after a long weekend of work. Started Friday night with a controlled burn and I'm so sore I need to just set at my desk and recuperate today.

Taken off the front porch after a nice meal of smoked red meat.

Sunsets, IMHO, are one of those things that God put before us to remind us of Him, that life is beautiful, and that tomorrow will be a great day also.

The problem is that most people don't take the time to soak it in.

It doesn't matter where you are - you should always take a second to pause and notice the sunset.

I started on the porch at 6am Sunday with my coffee, listening to the world wake up. Was interested to hear some wild quail calling around me, they have been few and far between lately. Finished the evening with the sunset, even ate dinner sitting out there. We set on the porch and drink a beer and wave at the neighbor as he drives by on his Gator to go feed his cows to the north of us.

There are draw backs to a west facing porch come summer, you don't set out there in August for sure. Also we mostly get a SW wind blowing and at times feel like hurricane force with nothing to block the wind on the edge of a bald slope.

6am?  Egads.  Not my time of the day.

I too ate on the deck out back last night, listening to the woods.  Was about 65 degrees here - just awesome.

The thing I like so much about hunting is not squeezing the trigger, but what you said - watching nature wake up.

It is so awesome, life post-softball when you can actually enjoy the front or back porch and actually notice that there's another life away from softball

Not to mention that I actually see the wife a lot now - great for me, but she might be missing softball now.

You are correct though - life post-softball sure is a lot different.

Agreed. Wife would always ask me, what do you do on the deer lease all the time? Why not just shoot something and come home? I told her I feel as one with God and nature. It's something primordial. Predawn, when the birds start their warning shouts to friend and foe. The cold bites a bit before dawn. The brush stirs with every one of God's creatures. I'm alive and in the moment. Even around my house 15-20 years ago, the geese flying over at dawn, distant shots at ducks over stock tanks, and the roar of 6 or more guns over a goose decoy spread woke me and my Labs. We could never go back to sleep. I was and continue to be alive.

Thank you, but I have always lived in the moment with a longing look back at the past. I often considered that a weakness on my part.

You captured it well Woody.

I'm that way with fly fishing at sunset too.  Wade out to the middle of the river, do my thing, rushing water, nature all around.

Well, around here, at least until some yuppie yells from the shore "whatcha catching".

fly fishing is pretty difficult to master - you should try it sometime.

I've done it all in fishing, from pulling grouper up from 300 feet (no electric reels, than you), billfish, tuna, dolphin, amberjack, on and on.  Every kind of inshore and offshore fishing in salt water.

I don't like bass fishing too much, but fly fishing is very challenging, which is why it's enjoyable.

I have a friend that is all into the fly fishing. High end Florida style poling skiff with platforms for site casting to redfish. I'm still stuck on the deep water overnight trips, but it takes a toll on the body. May go back to my wade fishing roots or get a yak.

I'm a ditch fisherman. Wade into a gut feeding out of a marsh pond, and you wouldn't believe the size of the speckled trout in a 20' wide 3' deep gut. Takes some work wading in 2' of silt, and there are some gators and stingrays, but catch it on a falling tide, and the big girls are there.

MAGA.

"Georgia is seeing a deep decline in the number of residents dependent on food stamps as the Peach State’s economy continues to rebound from the Great Recession.

The number of Georgia residents receiving food stamps has dropped by 300,000–from 1.9 million in April 2013 to 1.6 million, according to data published by the state’s Division of Family and Children Services.

The 16 percent decline accounts for tens of millions of dollars in monthly savings for federal taxpayers.

Last month, 7,251 of the estimated 11,779 people receiving food stamps in 21 Georgia counties dropped out of the program—a drop of 62 percent, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The steady decline comes as the state continues to expand its work requirements for food stamps recipients."

I know in Washington state our economy is on fire.  Houses in my neighborhood are fire.  Average sales time is around 24 hours.  They are typically selling for 50-60K over asking.

The metro area here has added 700k new people, while unemployment fell to 3.1%.  4 years of this, no way we don't have second term from Trump.

Waiting for someone to give credit to Obama for saving us, and setting up Trump for success. I normally would say that Presidents, other than war time Presidents, don't have a lot of control over the economy. I would say it is more a result of many factors, including Congressional legislation, the Fed jacking around with interest rates, printing money, and most importantly worldwide economic activity. However, in Trumps defense, the economy, and business and economic outlook not only improved after his election, but our economic outlook went through the roof. Was it just because Hillary was not elected? Was it because businesses, and people saw the prospect that a President and his administration would actually dare to put America first? Trump is a different creature. He isn't a politician, he doesn't give a rat's ass about what Hollywood, nor the media think, or he desperately try's to make everyone believe he doesn't care. He is best for our nation when in campaign mode promoting nationalism. I don't know how long the optimism will last, and whether or not Trump will be a successful president. I will say that we elected a grenade thrower, he hasn't disappointed, and all the people that hate traditional Americanism are really bent out of shape and pissed off. So far, so good.

Thanks Dewey.

If you read the first sentence, it says it's because of Georgia's work requirements.

For KIR - it was very controversial when this was being debated.  Of course, I supported it, as able-bodied freeloaders should get a job like everyone else, unless they can document specific reasons why not.

I guess leaving half of it out isn't exactly lying, but it's close.

Actually, I take it back - this is a total lie.  Your first quote below appears nowhere in the article.

#MAGA - even if you gotta lie a lot

Did you read the article?  EG is a liar, and put in false quotes.  Georgia's tough work requirements is booting people off.  That isn't a bad thing, but that article nowhere references an improving economy as the reason.

Maybe liar is too strong - what's it called when someone makes up total BS quotes and presents them as fact?
