They needed to get someone. But a D2 Juco pitcher who got rocked when she pitched against the better D2 Juco's at the end of the year, might not be a great pickup. And who is this catcher Katie Dustin? Is she gonna start on this team?

Anna Kufta will probably be the starting catcher next season. She is one of the coaches favorites!

This isn't live BP pitching. will she catch?  I'm not seeing it.

Well it looks like Kufta had a .203 batting average this past season. Maybe she is good on defense but she struggled on offense last season!

TerpAlum, I know some folks who have close connections to the goings on and you have hit the nail on the head. My sources tell me the Dustin kid is an average travel ball player from a local team that is so so (and in fact has about 5 MD commits.) Don't look for any improvement over last year as the outgoing players are better than the incoming ones. It's a farce up there.

You can change all the players that you want on this team but at the end of the day, this team will have the same dismal results as long as they are still being lead by this horrible coach!

It's official - Damon Evans gets the new AD gig.

They was probably forced into making this decision because of the tragic death of that football player that died during the summer workout on campus. They needed to put somebody in that spot ASAP to handle all of the upcoming press and eventual lawsuits, etc.

This is definitely bad for softball and probably means that Julie Wright ain't going anywhere until she wants to leave!

Let me lay a hard dose of reality on you.  Damon Evans will be your next AD.  If he isn't you'll wish he was.  Why? Because this isn't a very attractive job.

Evans got the AD job???

Who could have seen that one coming?  This guy! That's who!

I believe Wright has two years left on her contract. I expect she will be the coach exactly two more years.

TerpAlum, you know that local team that has all those Maryland commits? It has just folded.

Plus he was in the athletic department when all of this stuff was already going on (the infamous meeting between the team and Kevin Anderson, etc). So that is why I said that she isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. He has already heard all of the allegations against her. I’m shocked that she wasn’t on stage with all of the other coaches when he was announced as the official new AD. I guess she was in Mexico or something. I’m back to my hibernation cave until the fall, time to root for Brazil in the World Cup!

As I learned there was 1 girl from the Wagner's team enrolled in the Fall and 4 commits for next year. Lot of eggs in one mediocre basket.

I have not heard why Wagners folded from my travel ball contacts. But lots of teams fold nowadays.

or they change their names to Firecrackers, Batbusters, etc.

They folded because the MD coach pulled all of her recruits off the team and sent them elsewhere.  Left the other 6-7 players on that team with no place to play.

Camps that are only open to recruits, illegal one on one lessons, talking with players before they were the legal age to talk to... no one should be surprised.

I will never understand how a coach with such a horrible win-loss record is allowed to get away with so much shadiness. All these people protecting a coach that can’t even get 20 wins in a whole season. I could kinda understand if people was covering up for a coach and program that was winning, going to the NCAA tourney every year, etc. (Auburn, Missouri). These goofballs are protecting a coach that broke the loss record in back to back seasons!

I know you guys are always to hear about a Maryland commit:

look like they have a great commit in Mangel and she was in great company with this award.

https://www.calhisports.com/2018/07/05/all-state-softball-first-team-5/
Kendall Mangel (Chino Hills) Fr.

With three straight shutouts in the CIFSS D1 playoffs, Mangel established herself as an elite talent. The Maryland commit wound up 27-3 with a 1.25 ERA and had 113 strikeouts in 195 2/3 innings. The only game she lost in the postseason was 1-0 to Gahr of Cerritos in the CIFSS D1 semifinals. Mangel already has been named as the Inland Valley/San Bernardino Sun-Bulletin Player of the Year and we considered her as the runner-up to San Marcos’ Cydney Sanders as the State Freshman of the Year.

Cynic alert!!

Why would a Freshman from CA commit this early to go cross country to Univ of Dumpster Fire/MD? Where the current staff will probably be in Softball exile with Blake Miller & Scott Thomas IF she arrives there.

If she's all that, I'd think every school on the West Coast & SEC would be beating the door down.

I had to delete my old post, I had no idea she was a freshman with 3 years of high school left. These coaches probably won’t even be here when she arrives to this campus (I pray they will be gone by that point).

If she is so good and was a freshman why is she committing so early to a school that is 3000 miles away. This looks very fishy!

Plays for Tori Tyson’s dad on Corona Angels 14U. Is a very good pitcher. Pitched well in Colorado last week. Was clocked at 61-63 out there on her fastball.

Will never make it to Maryland with the current regime intact in my opinion. Only a sophomore this year.
