Point taken. Early morning posts written on a phone can get you every time 😜
Didn’t say he couldn’t spell, was addressing a piece he wrote a year ago. Just saying, he makes valid points but the way he delivers them can be counterproductive.

You're right, I got a little carried away. I think it's the exclamation points enigma.
Anyway, I must apologize for my boorish behavior. Sometimes I can be such a beast. Good talk.

Thanks barkbox.

I wanna say one more thing. This athletic department and coach better be sooooooo thankful that ESPN didn't get a hold of this story instead of the local reporters that are scared to make waves. Look at what has happened at Auburn as a result of those 2 huge big articles. ESPN would've had a field day with this mess!

The story will write itself. With their best pitcher gone, the graduations and the defections, this team will disintegrate and the warts will get exposed. It's a shame but after watching the College World Series, Maryland looks more like a D2 program than anything else.

It’s going to be interesting to see who is on their fall roster TruDat. The incoming transfers/freshmen will probably outnumber the returning players!

Any word on where Ryan Denhart is going? Or who might be replacing her and Graves at MD?

I have no idea about their pitching situation right now TruDat but it looks like Golden will be the main starter and Tyson is returning as the pitching coach. The 2nd starter will probably be a transfer, I doubt that she would put Main in that spot!

Lmao!  Golden followed Tyson across country just to double her era!

Well it’s official, Lauren Graves just posted on her Instagram that she is going to continue her softball career at Arkansas, wow. I had a feeling this was going to happen since she is from Arkansas. So you telling me that she couldn’t play for Maryland but Coach Diefel found a spot for her on Arkansas, a team that went to the Super regionals. Congrats Lauren, looking forward to watching you play for a coach that actually knows what she is doing!

Looks like Maryland picked up a transfer in the circle from The Gamecocks. Victoria Galvan. She should be at least able to redshirt because I think she was injured, but did not throw one pitch for us. May turn out to be a good pick up

Victoria Galvan may be a good pickup for them but do you really trust that these coaches can get the best out of her with their horrible track record!

Interesting news about Graves. I know from this thread and from looking at her stat line during her first two years that she didn’t get much time in the circle, and that when she did she struggled with her control. What kind of pitcher is she? Does she have good stuff that coaching could help get under control? Or is she just a project without a lot of potential to be a P5 pitcher? Thanks for any insight!

I think Graves is a good pitcher that was forced to change her mechanics and that messed her up. When she played these past 2 seasons she was thrown into bad situations (mostly blowouts). They would put her in when the game was basically over and when they finally started her last year they yanked her after giving up 2 walks in the first inning.

I think it’s destiny that she will be now playing for Coach Diefel at Arkansas. The coach that should’ve been coaching her here at Maryland. I trust Coach Diefel’s opinion way more than I trust the opinions of these Maryland coaches!

Actually, Diefel would never have coached her at Maryland. She was Wright’s recruit to Idaho, and she followed Wright to UMD.

I know sic1991, I saw the story about her being Wright’s recruit at ISU. I was just wishing that the situation could’ve happened here at Maryland. I wonder if she will have to sit out the 2019 season as a redshirt since she transferred?

At least she is closer to home when "s...." hits the fan between the coaches and Golden.  I don't see how Maryland can afford a 'red-shirted' pitcher in 2019 as pitchers are committed in the 2020 year.    It looks like UMD also picks up Katie Dustin (C/3B) from Wagner's Gold.

Why would ANYONE transfer into the Maryland program from ANYWHERE, especially South Carolina!  She must have zero self-esteem and wants to be a loser.

Janie, I would also question WHY. Wright is very friendly and talks a good talk when you meet her. Getting on campus and into that program is when all the blemishes show up. I hate the thought of any player going into that. They WILL regret it.

I'm just happy that Lauren had faith in herself to leave the program and go to another softball team. She is the first player to do this under this coach. The other 10 or more players that left the team took the "keep my scholarship and stay quiet Kevin Anderson deal" I guess that deal is gone since he is no longer here.

Looks like she is going to be the first of many more players to leave this program during the summer!

The other girls that left last year were all upper classmen. They didn’t take the “stay quiet”deal. They took the “I’m almost through with my education, I can graduate with a degree from an excellent school, and this program has soured the game of softball for me” deal. It was hard for all of them.

I know that most of them were juniors and seniors sic1991 even though the Jarvis twins still had 2 years of eligibility left. Now you have players that were freshmen and sophomores last season leaving the program. They are tired of all of the BS and I don’t blame them at all!

Yes. I forgot about the twins. But good for them to stay on and get their degree from UMD. I think everyone got burned out on softball. But nobody was told to keep quiet, everybody was just given their scholarships, I am assuming it was in hope to appease them.

Yeah they definitely did that to appease them and to keep the former players and their parents happy because all hell would’ve broken loose if they would’ve taken away their scholarships after the players left the team and their parents would’ve had to pay for the rest of their education out of their own pockets!

From what I have seen of her in the past she will not help Maryland much at all.  But maybe she will surprise a few people. Not sure why anyone would transfer to Maryland in the first place.  Between the cold and what seems like years of dysfunction and admin drama but what the hell do I really know decides what yahoos write on this board.

No one is/was happy, certainly not the players/parents.  Many of them would have given anything for the situation to have been corrected and have been a part of that correction and part of building UMD to a better program, and said so.  But to say that the players/parents left happy and appeased would be so far from the truth.  And to sort of imply that the best path would have been to simply "transfer" way understates the complexity of what occurred.   As well as understates how much worse it was for players that were not the coaches then those that were.  Thereby leaving them in much worse shape in many ways than others that are leaving now.   Not to undershadow recent departures situations, but it's the truth.  As has been said on this board many times over, "it goes way deeper than that".    Good for Graves and others leaving now for being able to escape the depth of the damage done to them,  and all the best to to them as well.  But at the same time, it's wasn't nor will it ever be, the same situation.   And while to some, taking a scholarship and finishing your education may seem like a "sweet deal", every single one of them also had to pay a huge price as did their families.  If the local reporters can't print an article, and as I understand it they have plenty of information at this point,  I'm sure there are valid reasons why the players have stayed silent other then they are "happy".

I do wish these alleged incidents would be made public. It’s a shame for future players to not really know what they are getting into.

Is it the yelling or what is being yelled? Some players don’t like to be yelled at some don’t care.

Body shaming? What exactly did that entail?

These are the 2 things I’ve read about on this forum.
And why doesn’t the AD do anything about it besides let players who want to leave keep their scholarship?

Softball98mom-If you dig deep enough on this thread and on others before this one was created, there is plenty that goes way beyond yelling and body shaming -  It wasn't just one or two lollypop kids leaving it was a mass exodus which alone speaks volumes.  It's insane to think that all of those girls were just bad apples or couldn't contribute.  And if the rumors are true that more are leaving, ones that contributed and some that did so for basically free, there is something radically wrong.  Might indicate there is some truth to the "leopard can't change it's spots" idiom.  Although for future players I hope that's not true.   As for your last question, not meaning to sound flip, but that's really the million dollar question.  Maybe that's a good question for the new AD if they ever hire one.[idea]
