Well there are 14 softball teams in the conference now. The teams in the bottom of the conference are just beating each other and that is why they are getting those wins. It would be much different if the conference had just 10 teams. The top half of the conference is still looking good!

I'm happy that this site is back. I was worried that it got shut down and I had to go back to dealing with the compromised testudo times, hahaha.

The team is probably worn out from all the over practicing, constant long road trips and all the other craziness behind the scenes. Thankfully their season is almost done and the players can finally get away from all of the BS!

Another weekend equals another sweep for the Terps. At least they made it interesting in the final 2 games!

Nine runs a game in 3 games. With the other weekends even more atrocious. I thought the transfer and the freshman were going to be tutored by the new pitching coach. Abysmal. Maybe the Pro job will be a little easier.

Yeah this has not been a good month for these 2 pitchers. They have been exposed big time. A lot of their early wins came against weak non-conference opponents and teams at the bottom of the Big ten. Maybe the coach should've had more faith in the pitchers that was already on the team instead of taking a bad packaged deal!

I don’t keep up but it seems like Maryland has had like 5 head coaches in 10 years and every year the fan base (on this forum) wants a change.

Sooner or later, the Terps need some stability don’t they?

Prowler, you need to do a better job prowling. This is their 3rd coach and this is her third season. One coach had a one year stint. Nobody wanted Courtney to leave.

OK, third coach since 2014.

All I seem to see year after year is a Maryland “fire the coach” thread on this site. It may not be titled that, but that’s always the sentiment. In a good year, it’s just ‘fire the assistants.’

Any truth to the rumor that the NZ shortstop will be ineligible next year?

Besides her final disastrous season, Laura Watten actually did a good job at Maryland. The only time I had a problem with her was doing that final year when it was obvious that the team quitted on her.

These last 3 years have been a disaster on and off the field. The team needs stability but it needs to be with a coach that actually knows what he or she is doing and can actually win 20 or more games during a season!

I know this is off the topic but is there going to be a Terp awards this year? I saw that the left bench was giving out their own Terp awards on their year end show on YouTube. I'm guessing one of the bully girls wouldn't be invited after what happened (a rumor I heard on here) last year!

Being a team follower I am pretty close to the MD program. The team Captains don’t get along with one another and they stoke the drama. This is magnified because the players know the voting for said captains were not counted correctly and Wright named who she wanted to be in charge. Maybe the Russians hacked the results. The team has been divided all year grouping behind whomever they seem to like. A few weeks ago in a Julie Wright called a lets air it out team meeting it was a disaster. You never do that and expect it to go well.

A rumor among the players is that one of the assistant coaches will be leaving. Wow! Forget all the drama for a moment, anyone think that the players’ performance are a reflection of the coaching after 3 years?  There are a couple players that have been vocal with some of their teammates about transferring. One in particular has been stellar on defense the last couple years just hasn’t been able to do anything that pleases Julie Wright. It would be a shame to lose this young lady. Maybe just talk or frustration but should be interesting to see play out during the summer.

Looks like Julie Wright and her partner will enjoy drinks on the beach in their bikinis in Mexico this summer. Sorry Terp Fans – She will be Back!!!! As things look today she returns with a ( 41 – 112 - 1 ) record. They should pick up at least a win or two against lowly MS this weekend. The reason I say she stays is because there is no one making decisions in the athletic department right now. No coach in the entire Maryland system will get fired this year. Temporary AD Damon Evans is too busy positioning himself to get the job. He’s also trying to shrug off his DUI arrest along with having a strange young lady in the car…( Read about the arrest in Ga ) He barely escaped the Me Too Movement. Kristin Brown the softball supervisor is still trying to find the softball field. The whole place is a mess, hopefully the search firm hires a quality AD to get Maryland moving in a solid direction.

Yeah I had a feeling that captain voting was rigged. There is no way the team will vote a sophomore as a captain who has been a complete trainwreck off of the field in public.

This might be the first time that players will leave the team and actually transfer to another school. I have a feeling that "leave the team and stay at the university deal" is done now that Kevin Anderson is gone.

I'm happy that Sky, Jacq and Destiny will have their senior weekend starting on Friday. They survived through 4 years of craziness. Its insane that this Coach would be back a 4th year with her horrible record but there is nobody in charge right now to change things!

The captain votes were rigged the past two years as well. She placed certain girls as captains so they could be in control and carry out her mind games. The entire team knew that she had ignored their voting, and that only contributed to the chaos.
The administration at UMD has ignored all serious complaints and situations, including NCAA violations, since Watten was there. They don’t give a crap. It was a disaster during Watten’s last couple of years.
Things may change- at least one sports reporter is snooping around and has lots of negative and crazy stories on the program.

I hope that the reporter will eventually put this stuff out and expose all of this craziness. It still boggles my mind that a coach with such a horrible win-loss record gets soooooooo much protection from this athletic department and university. It's ridiculous!

Hey they have 18 wins, way over predictions on this board.... and they weren't winless in their first few weeks.

Just sayin

This team was 15-20 overall and 5-1 in the big ten conference after they swept Iowa. They are now 18-33 and 7-13 in the big ten conference. That is a huge collapse and absolutely horrible. The predictions might've been low on this board but in reality this is bad. To be honest a lot of those early wins came against very weak non conference opponents.

People can try to spin this all they want but this has been her 3rd straight bad season. She brought in mostly all of these players and ran out the majority of the old Watten players and brought in new coaches. Eventually she needs to be held accountable for this mess!

Eventually the former and current players and their parents/family will have to speak out publicly if they want things to change for this program. Speaking anonymously on message boards is okay but it won't put the pressure on the athletic department and the university. The Auburn and Missouri softball players went public with their complaints and things changed!

I've been to like 3 games this year and I felt so conflicted. I just put it in my brain that I'm there to support the players.

If an article does come out about this program (sounds like you know something Terpalum) spread the word. I'll be with you flooding the athletic department with phone calls!

It should be known, that not all of the parents and or players were speaking anonymously! I for one, sent several emails to the athletic department and signed my name to each and every one and I know there were several other parents that did as well. I also know, that several current and former players had face to face meetings with the AD, so no anonymity there! There were a few former players who sought advice and solice from other administrators as well as other coaches. So, this is not a secret. JW and her antics are well known to everyone in the department!

For all of those who say this is just a bunch of whiny parents and players who should get over it and either leave or move on, this goes far deeper than that. This is/was never about playing time, tough coaching or JW isn’t very nice to my sally.....it’s far, far deeper than that.

Thanks alwaysaterp. I heard all the stories about the players going to the athletic department and what Kevin Anderson did after that from postings on testudo times. Thank goodness he is gone.

The athletic department and university dropped the ball big time in this situation. The same thing has happened at a lot of schools. It took going to the media for things to change at Missouri and especially Auburn. Once that happened, things changed!

What I find interesting about this softball situation is that both previous MD coaches could be in the NCAA’S this year.  Coach Defeil at Arkansas in 3 years in the top 25 now number 16.  She’s definitely in and Anderson was a terrible AD letting her get away. In addition to putting Kristin Brown, who had no experience, in charge of hiring a softball coach. That entire hiring process was a sham.  Julie Wright was the sole choice of Kristin who ignored input from the players. The administration is to blame for this mess.

Laura Watten was let go by Anderson after only one losing season with 3 NCAA appearances under her belt. Her team is doing well in the MEAC. Yeah I know it’s just a mid-major but regardless, she could still be at MD.. Wouldn’t that be interesting, Julie in Mexico relaxing and these coaches in the NCAA’s.

In Julie’s first interview when arriving at Maryland she said quote - I’m going to sell the world on MD softball.  I’m a Great salesman I’m going to bring in the top talent in the country.  Well what she did accomplish was stirring up a pot of crap which is laid out here on this Nation-wide message board with  over 22,000 views. Nice Job!!!

The downfall of this program started when they didn't find a way to keep Diefel long term. She is doing a good job in the SEC and will probably in the WCWS in the future.

I heard the Watten situation was different though. Her final season at Maryland was a disaster. All the players that she had previous success with was gone, especially her two all world pitchers (Kerry and Kendra). The new, remaining players turned on her after all of the losses and other things and she decided to leave to go home and be with her family but then decided to return to her old coaching job a month later!
