Who cares - Karen is coaching the Junior USA Team and substitute teaching. She is also spending time with Bobby Ray and Kaci. They live in Mississippi.

who cares - Bobby Ray Johns was recently inducted into the Alabama state sports Hall of Fame. He played defensive back for "The Bear" at Alabama, and coached at various colleges (he and Karen met at South Carolina when they were both coaching there) , ending his coaching career before retirement as head football coach at Western Alabama. Kaci is a softball pitcher (about 12 years old).

Word on the street is that The King and His Court, featuring Rich Hoppe, will be in Florida (New Port Richey) in May.  This is the final curtain call for The King and His Court, the end of a spectacular era in fastpitch softball, their very last national tour. If you haven't seen them, try to attend.  Good family entertainment in a venue that we here endorse.
PS - Also, if you have not done so, check out Rich Hoppe's book "The Pitcher and the Painter" available on line (Google it).  I read it and it is a worthwhile read.

May have been asked but where us their schedule for last 100 games?    Saw King and his Court as a youth in the old Houston Astrodome.  I was very impressed to say the least.  My dad was a pitcher back in the late 50's through the 1960's.

So how was the show on Sunday?  I pulled in the parking lot thinking a high school playoff game might be going on...heard who was playing (my father watched them way back in 'the day'), but alas, I couldn't stick around to watch.  I didn't know Megan D was throwing....I would have enjoyed seeing that...

Please order and read Rich Hoppe's book, "The Pitcher and the Painter" available on Lulu.  The book is about so much more than softball (pitcher for the last 20 some years for the King and His Court).  This year is their last tour - an era has ended.   A worthy read, I believe.  Frank

PS - Rich and I pitched against each other many times and to a degree shared the Harlem experience (the biggest trophy I ever received was the Lefty Long Memorial trophy as MVP of the Harlem Tournament - I thought our shortstop should have received it-, but pitchers always have an edge in awards). .  His views on serving in Vietnam and his brother's artistic talent and homosexuality are as interesting as Rich's barnstorming and his religious renaissance.  His brother was "the painter" and he passed on at his death to Rich the mantra, "Pitch me a painting".  What a great request at death from a brother who knew that vehicles of expression are different from person to person.
Beautiful, especially for those two brothers growing up in Bayonne, New Jersey and a gift to those with at least half a soul.  Order it  to your personal benefit !

I can assurre you Joan Joyce, who I know well, never threw 100 miles per hour. Monica Abbott was on TV last Saturday and she was clocked from between 74 to 76 miles per hour.

The two  greatest female players in softball are Joan Joyce and Lisa Fernandez. They played in different eras and they dominated those eras. Joan is coaching at Florida Atlanta University while Lisa is an assistant coach at UCLA where she starred. Her senior year she led the nation in batting (.510) and ERA (0.25). Has never been equalled  since then and I doubt it will. If you want to know more about these two, send an email to BPLummer1@cox.net and request a copy of "The Best of the Best." It sells for $20.00 including postage and handling.

The original King and His Court featured Eddie Feigner who died years ago. Since then the featured pitcher was Richie Hoppe out of Bayonne, New Jersey (SugarHoppe in Jersey and the City) .  He hung up the cleats after their last tour this year, and an era is ended in fastpitch.  No King and His Court barnstorming.  Hoppe's book, a worthwhile read, is entitled "The Pitcher and the Painter" and is available on line through Juno.   Frank
PS - I'm looking for his sequel, having pitched against both these guys many times. Great barnstormers.
