Success in sports is cyclical.  Who would have predicted a few years ago that a coach from Wichita State hired by Florida would result in the Gators overthrowing Alabama as big dawg in the SEC and even winning a couple of national titles?  It's not like Alabama changed head coaches.

Texas has made the WCWS without Cat Osterman; yes, like all teams, you need a dominant pitcher to get there, and we had the likes of Christa Williams and Blair Luna to take us there.  So, I give props to Connie for guiding Texas to a pretty good tradition and history of success in softball.    She's proven you can win at Texas, and even though her highest finishes were semi-finalists, that's a lot more than some programs have accomplished.

Do NOT and I repeat...Do NOT call the Longhorns of Texas ANY names that could be construed as derogatory. The snowflakes in Austin will melt upon reading them. This guy has got to get out of his UT bubble and take a breath.

Who is hired first...North Texas, Lamar or UT? Are they all fighting for the same mid-major coach?

Lawson would be a GREAT hire, just not going to happen in my view. If I'm wrong I will head to Walmart and get my very own UT shirt and wear it to a game in Austin.

Happy to report that Texas has hired Edrick Floreal from Kentucky to lead our Track & Field program:

https://texassports.com/news/2018/6/13/track-field-cross-country-edrick_floreal-named-head-track-and-field-coach-at-texas.aspx

Won't bother me if Kentucky is where we go to find our softball head coach, too.

Even though you're a jerk, Southie, and I normally would not bother with you...interesting indeed.

I'm the jerk?  You are a classless poster and mainly post negative slants on every topic; too bad you don't want to change.

It's still the Big 8 since there is only 8 softball programs in the conference. How many softball programs were there in the conference in your day?

There is no question that that has been a constant at Oregon since he took over a 16-34 team in fall of 2009, and hasn't lost a regional game in those nine years. Then, add in the collection of offensive players he has successfully recruited on partial out of state scholarships... to the sticks of Eugene.

Despite that, there are five active coaches with resumes better than his in his 9 years: Gasso, Walton, alameda, murphy and the Westwood mob queen with her LangenNatty in White's first year.

coaching, recruiting, knowing the rules... lawson is great, but compare the resumes

Are you secretly hoping the Horns hire your boy?

What difference does it make, how many teams there were.

Nah.

But to argue that, other than a short, short list of title-winners, White isn't the most qualified candidate... and it coming from the It Means More pile of lemmings... Gets the blood moving

Just like in women's bb, when UT gets a coach that brings recruiting on par with top 20 programs, Texas softball will be able to compete with OU.  No softball player wanting to play deep into the tourney would ever commit to Texas during the recent CC years.  I am not even sure any top player had an offer from CC before getting offers from many top programs because she liked to take her time.  The top A&M and Baylor softball players we know never had Texas offers.  Many Texas players were non scholarship "walk-ons."  It won't take much to improve recruiting, but if Texas can ever get it to top 10 levels, the team will not be travelling anywhere for regionals or super regionals.

Two adjectives keep coming to mind, and I can't decide which is most appropriate:

(a) Optimistic
(b) Delusional

JK. Hope y'all get a great coach.

I guess that it is possible that they're waiting to make an announcement during the UT baseball game on Sunday...  On the other hand I am amazed how quiet this thing has been...

So if the Jimmy Kolatis to UAB rumor is true, is that another sign UT might be grabbing up Mike White?

If Mike White was leaving don’t you think Jimmy would be holding out to try to get Oregon?
Wouldn’t think this move to UAB has anything to do with White

I don't think it is related in the least.

Both may perhaps occur still. But they would not be related.
