This was something I was taught in 5th grade

Texas Historical Society

https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/qvg01

WIKI'S take

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_and_take_it

Another take, much more informed, and the most researched, in my opinion.

My take:

Thank you for the go to reading material. There is no republic like the Republic of Texas.

P.s. I'm sure since joisey is feeling a little better you'll get tongue lashed for your pride in your state

Interesting, but not sure I get the point.  Should I post a history of GA, where I was born?

I was just linking an article that explained the origins of the come and take saying. Feel free to post up something about Georgia.

Fair enough, and no thanks.  I just wondering if this was part of some larger story I missed.

No move along, nothing to see here folks. Move along before we get too much attention and catch the eye of the unclean.

I say let's unite against liberals, most of whom happy to be Yankees and Californians.  Texas is cool and all, but it can't hold a candle to Georgia.  [smile]

I like Georgia.

My paternal Grandparents both hailed from there, their families all the way back to the Civil War and North Carolina  and South Carolina before Georgia [ancestory.com].  It's just somehow odd that people always WANTED to come to Texas for very different reasons.  You don't find that in many states anymore.  California used to always draw the dreamers and some of the workers but they managed to kill their own dream in that bastion of liberalism.  High taxes, smog, traffic, bad highways, beautiful scenery, go to the left coast or take out the scenery and go to the northeast where liberalism runs amok

CA was great to visit for two weeks.  I might even go back.  Live there?  That would be hard to do.  I could live in TX though.

I enjoyed California. Huntington Beach was OK, but it was kind of artificial, and I didn't think much of LA, but that is because I can do without crowds. I did like San Diego, and I also liked the desert on the way out to Palm Springs, but they need to get rid of the wind turbines that spoil the whole view.

Arkansas is a pretty place. I don't know how you make a living there, but it is nice to visit.

Oklahoma is like two different states. Drive up through the middle, and it looks pretty desolate. Drive through the East side, and it is lush forests and hills.

Louisiana is it's own planet. I don't know where to start. So much to love, so much to hate.

Yeah Georgia and California are ok but it's not everyday when you can catch Ron Paul one hour and then Ted Nugent the next hour being interviewed on your local AM radio station. Michael Berry is a great American.

We don't have Berry here.

Our local lineup is Herman Cain, then Limbaugh, then Hannity, then Eric Erickson, then the last hour of Hannity again.

They get Mark Levine in south GA.  I like his one book I bought, but his radio show gets old.  I change the channel when Limbaugh is on, and catch the others when I happen to be in the car.

Both of my daughters (at different colleges here locally) have seen Herman Cain live, as he sometimes broadcasts from local college campuses.

I first remember those wind turbines from 1977, stationed in 29 Palms I saw them, a few times.  Young, stupid and 19, rode through and stayed in Palm Springs a couple of times.  Didn't even register where I was.  I remember Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree, great place for rock climbing under a full moon, drinking Jim Beam and listening to Pink Floyd.

I do like the desert there. It is different than the West Texas desert somehow. Haven't put my finger on it, but I think it may be more barren, and have lower vegetation than West Texas. Maybe it is more rolling hills, and ridgelines. Just different.

ANOTHER company moves headquarters to Texas from California: Kubota Tractor.

EX:

“Our decision to relocate our corporate headquarters to a more central part of the U.S. was a major part of our future business strategy, but which state we would ultimately choose was not,” said Masato Yoshikawa, President & CEO, Kubota Tractor Corporation. “Texas ultimately helped make that decision easier. Their business friendly climate, state incentives and geographical location were important factors in our final decision.”

Toyota is bringing manufacturing jobs to the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex.

6000-10,000 jobs coming.

I got $3.50, and some scrap copper. Maybe we can find a subprime lender beings I am a half breed Indian Redneck. We could ask Barney Frank to represent us, and if that failed, call in the big guns, the Reverands JJ, and AL to go fleece them for the down payment. I will only agree to this if the mineral, and hunting rights are included.
