SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State sophomore pitcher Taylor Stroud was named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference (PCSC) Pitcher of the Week after leading the Hornets to a 4-1 record and the Fresno State Kickoff tournament championship last weekend.

In just her second season with the Hornets, Stroud has now received PCSC Pitcher of the Week honors three times during her career.

The right-hander finished the season-opening tournament with a 3-0 record while also recording one save and a 0.37 ERA. In four appearances, she threw 19.0 innings, allowing just 13 hits and one run while walking four and striking out six. Opponents hit just .194 off Stroud, and only two of those 13 hits allowed went for extra bases (two doubles).

Among her three victories was a win over Fresno State in which she tossed six innings of relief in the Hornets’ nine-inning victory, allowing just three hits and one run. That included tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning despite the international tiebreaker rule being in effect.

In her only start of the tournament, she tossed a five-hit shutout of UC Riverside while allowing one walk and striking out four. She then worked out of the bullpen each of her next three appearances, going six innings against Fresno State, 2.1 innings against North Dakota State and 3.2 innings in the Hornets’ second game against UC Riverside.

Against North Dakota State, the Santa Rosa, Calif., native nailed down her first career save, retiring each of the seven batters she faced. Against UC Riverside on Sunday, she was inserted into the game in fourth inning, and proceeded to toss 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn her third victory of the tournament.

Sacramento State (4-1), which returns every positional starter from a year ago, does not play again until traveling to San Jose State on Feb. 22 for a game against the Spartans.
