The Hurricanes got Jenna Rich back but lost Ashlyn Booker to injury in the 1st qualifying game Saturday. Though it took some last minute heroics by Kylie Lahners to win the 1st game, they got back-to-back shutouts by Kayla Massey and Ally Carda to take the early morning games.

Pumas        0 0 0 0 0=0-3-0
Hurricanes 0 0 0 0 2=2-8-1
The Hurricanes hadn't managed a run against the Pumas in their 1st meeting and looked to be heading for a repeat performance. Despite dominating the hits column, 5 of the 8 were of the infield variety and the clutch hit eluded them. The Pumas had a runner on base in every inning and began the 3rd and 4th with 2 on and 0 outs but Massey got tough and pitched her way out of trouble. The Hurricanes put 2 runners on base in each of the 1st 4 innings but it was always with 2 outs and they could not capitalize. Lahners came up in the 5th with a runner on and 1 out and left the yard just before time was called. The only Hurricane with more than 1 hit was Hallie Wilson with 2 bunt singles.

USA Comets  0 0 0 0=0-0-2
Hurricanes     2 1 3 6=12-7-0
The Hurricanes were helped by 8 walks, 6 in the last inning, not to mention 3 wild pitches and a passed ball. Carda had a control blip in the 2nd when she walked 2 and hit a batter but was otherwise dominant, striking out 2 in every inning. Lahners picked up where she left off in game 1 with a HR in each of her 1st 2 plate appearances. She walked in the 4th for a perfect game. Carda was only slightly worse with a triple, HR and BB. Bates, Tiumalu and Johnson all had a single and walk and Wilson collected 2 walks.
