Nice post, spazsdad.  Already poking a stick at a newborn. You are a piece of work!

I don't think he's poking any sticks at the newborn.  He had absolutely no say in the matter.  It's the parents that are being "criticized", although that may be too harsh of a word.

When "unusual" names are given to babies, I think the parents have to be ready to take the backlash.  Granted, it's not a common name.  Nor was "Ace".  The alliteration is another issue.  It's certainly not a name that I would have picked for my kid, but they have every right to name their son whatever they want.  All parents should keep in mind, however, that it's the kid that has to live with the name & take all the insults, abuse, bullying, teasing, etc., so the choice of a name is very important & can have a dramatic role in shaping the child's life.

It's certainly not uncommon for celebrities to give their children "unique" names:

Tu Morrow
Moxie CrimeFighter
Audio Science
Apple
Calico
Jermajesty
Camera
Blue Angel
Kyd
Kal-El
Pilot Inspektor
Fifi Trixibelle
Sage Moonblood
Ocean
Moon Unit
Diva Thin Muffin

Hmmmmm...... maybe Diesel is pretty tame........  And I'll bet we see the popularity of this name pick up a little now, thanks to Jennie & Casey.

"Deisel" can also be taken from the name of a fragrance or an expensive watch.  Could have personal meaning to the parents.  My very best to parents and child.

My only issue with the name is that if young Diesel grows up to be anything other than a Jersey Shore, muscular, tattooed roid rager, his name won't befit him.

Dean, thankfully, is much more accepting to a wide range of personalities.

Thanks for the character evaluation. Sounds like someone already poked a stick at you, from behind.

I'm guessing that the hang ups of others didn't factor into the Daigle's name selection.

At the end of the day, people that know him will think he looks like a "Diesel" and won't be able to imagine him having any other name.

Just like Frank's seemingly well adjusted kids.

As for naming children, the best has to be a friend from high school who had 3 children and all of their names start with a Q.  Really, a Q?  Do we really have to be that unique that you are going to have 2 boys and 1 girl whose names all start with a Q.  Guess it's no worse than the Duggars going with all J's.  Really, Jedidiah?

You forgot Shilo and Suri. Jennie Finch is a good player, but she is also a nutcase for naming her sons as she did.

Mayber they are big fans of Vin Diesel?

At least they named their second son by a different name.  Let's not forget George Foreman and his 5 sons all named George!

Caught the Jennie Finch commercial the other night.  It's all Tigers now other than the Golden Bear cameo.   Good spot.

Via the stalker wagon (ie twitter), it's time for #3.  Any guesses on this child's name?  Will it be a girl?

Jennie is tremendous, a great athlete, a true christian (note lower case), a terrific mother, and an icon in fastpitch as well as a gorgeous woman.  OK, what else do you want?????  Oh, did I mention that she also is almost shy when she meets someone, yet gracious?  This is one of, if not the very best, icon in the history of fastpitch.  Great human being !!  I am in awe of her, and she, in my eyes, can name her children anything she wants to name them.   Frank
PS - I think she is not a good announcer but she's getting better.

Congratulations to the parents and their extended family.  Maybe we can get a softball player this time.  In any event, here's to a healthy and happy baby.

Last Tuesday, La Mirada High School retired Jennie Finch's #27, (now Jennie Daigle).  Certainly a well deserved and long overdue honor.  I'm embarrassed to say I knew nothing of the ceremony and failed to attend but my congratulations go out to Jennie.
