I'm copying this from the csnbbs forum. Greg Bowen's request speaks for itself. Please be in prayer.

OT: Prayers Needed Badly
This is my first chance to sit down at a computer since the accident.

My wife Samantha and my 2 year old son were involved in a terrible car crash yesterday afternoon just north of Huntsville. Apparently her vehicle lost control and flipped multiple times.

My son is fine, my wife is not. Samantha suffered a fractured skull with blood on the brain, the bones in her face are fractured, the skin on her left arm is gone, and she has a punctured lung.

I have been informed that death is no longer a primary concern, our biggest worry is permanent brain damage.

Please pray for my wife Samantha Bowen, she is my world.

Her doctor came out and told us that brain surgery went well. They have removed a blood clot and part of her skull. The issue is swelling and they're doing everything they can to reduce it.

She is being kept in a medically induced coma "indefinitely." She will not be allowed to wake until they are sure she can handle it. The pain wracking her body must be intense.

I have been told that she will NOT require facial reconstruction surgery, which we believed would be the case until moments ago. Her nose is broke and the eye socket is fractured, but the plastic surgeon isn't going to be needed now.

We're looking at months, perhaps years of therapy here. I'm terrified ya'll, I just dont know what I'm going to do. This woman has been my everything for so long that I can't go on without her. I know the Lord has a plan for everything, but right now I'm struggling with the cruelty of this situation.

Thank you all for your prayers. This community has been a source of happiness and sometimes sadness, but it's MY community. You all are very important to me, this board is very important to me, and I hope God will bless you all.

God Bless.
Greg Bowen

UPDATE:

"Samantha is making a slow steady recovery. This morning they informed me today we will be taking the breathing and feeding tubes out. Despite the morphine she is very alert now. She is looking at me, squeezing my hand, furrowing her brow, and smiling in response to conversation.

They had to shave her pretty hair off to clean and doctor all of her head lacerations, but that will grow back.

My father drove up to Athens, AL to have a look at the vehicle yesterday. He told me it was awful. The driver's side roof was crushed in, which is what fractured her skull and neck. The roof above my son however, was bowed UP, protecting him from the same fate.

God wrapped his hands around my son in that instant, that's the only explanation I will accept. I know some of you do not believe in God, but try going through this with that mindset and you'll change your mind.

My boy knows what happened. He said to me last night, "Mommy got hurt when car went bump." I cried and we talked about it. He's only 2 but he's so smart and sharp, it's amazing how resilient he has been through this.

Thanks again to all of you who have remembered Samantha in your prayers. She has received an overwhelming response in both prayer and action from everybody, both friends and strangers alike."

I am very touched by your attitude toward your wife and son, and I am so pleased that positive progress is being made.  My very best to you all.

"Update:

I visited Samantha this morning and it's amazing ya'll! Last night they were prepared to remove her tubes, well...she up and did it herself! Now she is talking. I told her we would be trying to get her in to a rehab center in Birmingham at UAB, she said, "I hate UAB." 03-lmfao

I have been so scared she would wake up and not remember me, or perhaps worse...those fears have been alleviated. Samantha has made incredible progress, it can only be the work of the Lord. Thank you all for your continued prayers, they have made a difference.

They have her sitting up now, which helps her feel better. She was asking to see our son, but I decided to wait. Her asking for him proves she is in fact doing better though and that makes me smile. The tears keep coming with each day of improvement."

"RE: OT: Prayers Needed Badly

Great news ya'll, I spoke with her neuro surgeon yesterday and he informed me that they expect her to have NO PERMANENT BRAIN DAMAGE! Now our primary concern shifts to the healing of her left arm wound...which is extensive. Luckily it is not a bone issue, but it will require skin grafting"

"I had a GREAT visit with Samantha tonight. The past two days have been discouraging because she's been a little out of it...we think due to exhaustion. She told me some beautiful things and did some exciting movements this evening that got me feeling positive again.

Thank you all for your prayers! God works wonders and this situation has allowed Him to show off a bit. God is Good Y'all, Every Single Day!"

RE: OT: Prayers Needed Badly
"Samantha has been moved out of the NICU and in to a private room at Huntsville Hospital. She is still suffering from memory issues but things seem to be progressing.

Thanks again for everyone's prayers and well-wishes. Please direct future prayers in the manner of her mental state improving.

Greg"

RE: OT: Prayers Needed Badly

I apologize for the lack of updates recently fellas.

I have my wife back. Her mind has recovered and I am praising God Almighty!

Samantha and I were moved to UAB Spain Rehab in Birmingham where she was projected to spend 4 weeks. She was released after just 1 and 1/2. The accomodations left plenty to be desired but the therapy and care were outstanding.

We are now home, FINALLY. Yesterday we had to go back to Huntsville for her follow-up with the neuro surgeon. He told her that her brain looked great and allowed her to take off the neck brace. She is so happy and much more comfortable. We are now finishing up antibiotics through IV that I can administer and going to outpatient therapy.

While we were at UAB her therapists worked on mobility and cooridination. Since it was the right side of her brain that was injured, it is the left side of her body that she is having trouble with. She has come a LONG way, but there is still work to be done.

Thank you all for your prayers and continued interest in our plight. The membership of THIS message board is my "online family," and the way yall have rallied around us proved that feeling to be legitimate. God Bless you all.

Greg started a new thread to thank those who prayed for Samantha and to give us an update on her condition. If you need a reminder on the details of the accident, they are included in his new thread. Thank you to all who prayed.

God is good. All the time.
