Fresh adopt a worker program is now in effect. It is only rivaled by Dewey's adopt an illegal alien family to live in your home. It sounds like the old Russian and then Soviet Union model. Everyone is all equally miserable. A Doctor and a ditch digger both are monetarily compensated equally by the State. However, the ditch digger is held in higher esteem than the Doctor, because his job is physically harder.

Fresh the most glaring inconsistency in your post is you say you were able to make all the money you cared to, (not an option under socialism or communism), while you worried about the cafeteria worker's lack of pay.

One question.

Why is it that you were able to make all the money you cared to make, while the cafeteria worker was seemingly unable to advance in the job market? What is the reason the cafeteria worker isn't able to make all the money they want?

My DNA has given me a head start over the lady in the cafeteria. Not many PHD's(metaphor for educated) working at the school cafeteria because they made bad decisions. A business man with profit as his master will make more than I, but deserves it for the hard work he will have to put in to reach his goal. I don't begrudge that. I do believe he has to be taxed at a higher rate, due to our society providing the economic and social structure to achieve that goal. His hard work is primarily responsible, but he wouldn't be there if he lived in Haiti(metaphor for impoverished nation).

Why is it that you think he should be taxed at a higher rate than say you, or the cafeteria worker? Why do you say that someone in Haiti, Nicaragua or Somalia, (metaphor for Sh*thole) cannot be successful?

Didn't say he couldn't be successful, just not AS successful. He pays more because he derives more from our society. Cafeteria worker does not have my option to work as much as I care to make. She probably scrambles every Friday to get gas for the car ride to work.

He wouldn't be there. That's what you said, then switch it to "just not AS successful".

What more has he derived from our society? He got a public education, cafeteria worker did too. He didn't get free housing, transportation, telephone, cable tv, food, and clothing. So what did he derive from society that she didn't? Both had the same ability to be successful when they walked out of high school. One made it, the other didn't. Do you want them to be equal? Have the same results? Receive the same compensation? This is starting to go in a "It takes a village" direction.

sounds a bit like "you didn't build that".

I've posted before about how the gov't ain't there cleaning up when you're barfing out of worry from a startup, wiping the wife's tears when you can't make bills, or helping the kids feel better when they overhear you telling the wife you might have to move.

For the first few years of my business, the cafeteria made more than I did, with no stress or worry.

Naw, they only show up once you actually make the business turn a corner, and it looks like it might actually be profitable after all.  It's at that point that "you didn't build that".

You can take the happy, no worry way (cafeteria worker) or the stress-riddled, long hours way (small business).

Gov't should not penalize you either way.

Most successful people derive more from their effort, not from society. People shouldn’t be punished for working harder.

The benefits of society are available to everyone in that society. A layabout dopesmoker who didn’t make any effort in high school doesn’t deserve preferential treatment. They contribute little, if anything, to society. They hold us back, drag us down. Punishing those who improve society is insane.

Damn, never thought we'd have a difference of opinion. Woody, trying to carry on a conversation, don't go all Natty on me.

He wouldn't be there. That's what you said, then switch it to "just not AS successful".

He wouldn't have the opportunities to "be there" in Haiti. Poor wording. I kind of fly in and fly out here.

I get payroll updates every week. First week of the year I saw some small differences in normal net pay, but the following week they went back to normal. What are you basing the 6 dollar a week increase on? Did you see the new tax tables that were issued or is that unsubstantiated? Here is the IRS publication. Most people will start seeing the difference in withholding starting this week but no later than the 17th.

Not sure I can fully nail down how this played out for you or not.  But it was likely something along these lines.

The degree you got in school was a nice degree, like teaching or social worker.  Upon graduating you got a mediocre job, maybe not even in your education field.

Now since you do not make much money, you only pay about $16 weekly in taxes.   So they have now cut your taxes in half.   Since you were not making that much, and are not paying that much, a 50% tax cut does not amount to that much.

Six dollars a week? Okay, here is an apprentice electrician, married with one child filing married with 1 exemption, (wife works too). Old take home pay at $16 an hour was $504. New take home pay under Trumps plan, with 0 deductions (2018 W4 forms aren't out yet) is $585. That's $81 a week, $4212 a year, or a $2 an hour raise. That's a pretty substantial amount of money for a young family man that he didn't have before the tax cuts.

How did your wife only make $6 a week extra?

Tnx Wood, as it is quite apparent some folks cannot use mathematics.
