Perez and Karlee Sparacino (Cal) had two of the top performances, from Freshman, in the opening week of play. Both come from the same highschool along with Kylee Perez (UCLA). Imagine how good that team was!!

On paper, the PAC 12 looked pretty decent the first week.

Ducks won vs. very good competition.
Bruins won but the competition ... meh.
Huskies did well but I can't yet bet how they'll do against a solid team.
Cats did okay against decent competition but got spanked by the Cowgirls. Didn't win the most important one. Makes me nervous.
Utes got spanked by good teams. That surprised me.
Sun Devils did pretty doggone good.  That surprised me.
Bears won but I an't tell how they are from the teams they beat.
Beavers had a very nice week against very good competition. I'm glad for them.
Cardinal started off poorly but played decent teams. I still have my hopes up.

If Azevedo and B Perez keep delivering Bruins could win the Pac imo

I love Jelenicki, and if she is out for a significant amount of time, that is a big problem for them

I’m not sure, I agree if she’s out, that’s a giant loss. They will want her bat during Mary Nutter.

Rachel Garcia was 1 out away from a Pefect game until an infield single broke it up

Final Ucla 4 to Fordham 0

Rachel Garcia 17Ks 16 swinging 1 looking

She's so amazing to me the way she mixes heat and movement and her spin is so tight.. a true talent and a lot of fun to watch.

Could easily be the best pitcher in the PAC this year

The Pac is loaded with good pitchers. The two that are really good are Rachel Garcia and Arvelo from Washington.

It was interesting that Alvelo pitched 3 games (albeit 14 innings) last weekend. I hope it's because it was a homecoming series. UW has 3 candidates for #2 (1b?? hopefully) it would be nice to see them get the lions share of innings in these early games.

If last year was nay indication it's all Alvelo in the stretch and post-season.

There is no doubt of that. She is an absolute stud.

That said, if they don't take some stress-innings off her, I don't like even her to run the OKC table with the 200 regular-season innings she had last year

May need to sacrifice a win or two in February to take that long view

Yeah I think it was about getting Alvelo chances to shine before family, friends, and hometown fans. No doubt that she is the ace. Having two legit #2 pitchers jockeying to be the second starter and reliever is a positive. Manti says they revamped her delivery. Plain is a legit "international" pitcher (leaping is legal under international rules) who is a year older than her class.

Pitched for her U19 national team. Leaping is legal under international rules, but crowhopping isn't.

Garcia is without a doubt one of the best pitchers in the PAC. However, I have to give credit to Kleist. She looks so good this year and the three speeds with the simple mechanics really sell me on her. Elish looks outstanding as well.
