I would like everybody’s opinion on who they think will be the ace this year

When OK has to play ranked teams, it will be pitch by committee. No one on the staff will go a full 7 innings against good teams.

I think the favorite Shannon Saile, you know the pitcher on here that everyone was salivating over until she went to OU. Lopez solid as a #2. Vestal with a learning year as a number #3.  Conrad in a bit of the Lowary road as a relief pitcher.

My hope is that Lopez comes back this year a little more consistent than years past. If Lopez and Saile can take most of the innings, I think we’ll be just fine. Conrad might surprise everyone, and I’m hoping she does. I was shocked when I saw her throw against Japan, it was great to see. I’m also hoping Vestal is a happy surprise. Wouldn’t mind seeing Mendes get a few more innings this year. That being said, the aces will be Saile and Lopez.

What about Grace Green and Audrie LaValley? Do you think they will pitch any

The first opinion you should get is from Mrs. Patty Gasso.

Lopez is not a ace. She is straight power and no spin. Literally no movement at all. Saile is probably the ace unless Brooke proves she’s as good as her recruiting says it is. Saile will be a all-American behind this offense.

Shannon Saile and Brooke Vestal will emerge as 1A and 1B.  Brooke didn't get the publicity in her senior year due to an injury but she is 100% and ready to go.  She's pitched on the big stage in Travel ball winning championships.   Coach Gasso said "Vestal is the kind of pitcher that is going to win a lot of games."  Brooke is a big player at 6'0 with great control, has great spin and can throw consistent heat.  Look for good things from her.

I agree that Lopez is a power pitcher.  She'll still win over 10 games but she'll need strong backup after the opponent goes through their lineup the first time.  Conrad might prove to be consistent but the jury is still out in my mind.

Nicole Mendes wants to get into the circle after being bypassed in 2018.  She will be the only left hander on the team and has performed well when called upon.  Perhaps Jenn Rocha will develop her to come into certain situations. Coach Gasso still has a need for a left hander after the success that Missy Lombardi had for 20 years.

I suspect Jenn Rocha will put them on a low priority.  She has to come in and evaluate new pitchers to the program in Shannon Saile and Brooke Vestal who were starting pitchers in the past, plus evaluate holdovers Mariah Lopez and Parker Conrad.   She may look at Grace and Audrie in the Fall but I suspect a closer evaluation, if warranted due to needs for the team, would take place in the Spring.

From what I've heard, neither has spent any time pitching so far, but the teams just finished 1 on 1's. I wouldn't think they'd see any circle time this season.
