So why some much discussion about Vestsl from people who have no inside information? Seems like a wast of message board space. Could it just be as simple as OU has 4 junior pitchers, 5 if you count Mendes and no sophomores. As a redshirt sophomore she would be the most experienced pitcher on staff. Seems like a logical strategy to me.

I could offer a different theory (regarding the abundant discussions), but I guess I'll just let it slide.

And you also predicted Chronister/Florida would be the ace of that staff.

I spoke blessings in her life. With the help of Jesus she will be an ace for Florida.

How does that argue for preserving a season of eligibility at OK versus preserving a season of eligibility anywhere else?  Couldn't the same considerations apply in either scenario from her perspective?

Just trying to balance the nonsense about no poll can be taken seriously where OK isn't number one. Are you trying to tell me that isn't an opinion? There are several teams that have the talent to win, OK is one of them. I have them 3 in my pre-season list because, I agree with Gasso, they should have one of the best offenses in the country. As far as Juarez and Saille/Lopez... being better than Alvelo and Plain, that certainly isn't what the stats or the eye test say.

Blah, blah, blah!

When did I every claim that was not just my opinion? What I DID say is that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinions. Let's keep it real, sir.

Juarez outdueled Alvelo and Plain in last season's series.

No question, Alvelo/Plain is a very strong duo. But I think Juarez is as good or better than both and that Saile/Lopez would keep things interesting.

Juarez did outduel them in Seattle, though she was rough in OKC. My prediction is you won't see much of either Lopez or Saile in the post season, at least past the regional opening round. We will see, though.

Saile in the past has risen to her competition and has played down to her competition. She has the goods to play at an elite level and if Coach Rocha brings that out of her then Oklahoma will have the pitching staff to compete with anybody.

Also think the committee approach will help G keep from getting worn down before the postseason.

In other words, if OU gets to OKC, Juarez should be fresh enough to pitch lots of innings, as needed.

<< UCLA has a better overall team from a talent perspective. WA has a better pitching tandem, and as OK saw in last year's WCWS, pitching is supremely important. It's not going to be an upset if either one of them (or Florida) were to win the title. Most of the time the NC has a pretty healthy dose of luck as well, especially when there isn't one team that is leaps and bounds ahead of the others, which should be the case again this year. >> (cjs4585)

scrybe -  If you are talking about cjs (when you say "this guy")... then I have to disagree with you.

I agree with everything he said in that post above.
And I think his posts are almost always filled with interesting and worthwhile comments.

As far as UCLA goes can’t argue with talent or history. But recent history in OKC hadn’t been very good. Talent wise OU still has the corp group on 2 national championship teams so you ll get an argument over UCLA being more talented.

And didn’t you guys realize that Saile and Juarez automatically became less talented when they came to OU?Remember when everyone was salivating for Saile to come to their team? Now she’s not even a good #2. It’s hilarious that Gasso can’t even redshirt a player without a conspiracy theory.

Actually it was her 36-22 record with 24HR in an average Mid Major Conference that anybody who graduated from Sandbox understood her transition could be problematic.

Personally I think she'll be fine with that support staff. And with their early season schedule, it shouldn't take long to see how she handles it all.

Again this all became discussed when she picked OU. Before that she was the hot topic as the best available pitcher on the board. You don’t have to graduate from sandbox to know that either. What ever that means.

Thanks HLA.

As far as being arrogant and condescending perhaps scrybe should review his "Any preseason poll that has the Sooners any place but #1 (basically all of them) has absolutely no credibility" post. That's quite the statement.

As far as Saile, she has played well in the 21ip she had against top 25 competition. She also struggled at times against barely mediocre competition. I mentioned that on this board before Saile had confirmed her commitment to OK. If you are comparing her against someone like Plain, Plain just utterly destroyed everyone except the very best lineups once she got going. She gave up 2er at the WCWS in 21.1ip (.66era).

In her preseason press conference, Gasso said it's likely that they'll start the season with two freshmen in the starting lineup, one being Grace Lyons at short.  Anyone heard who the other starting frosh is?

Sounds like it.  I watched Gasso's interview on SoonerSports.com and she mentioned Green alternating with Shay at 1st.  She didn't mention designated player, which is a possibility.  Don't know if Aviu is starting DP or OF.
