Boston is retired in the top of the 7th.
Still 4-3 Boston - going to the bottom of the 7th.

Pendley, Aviu & Arnold are due up.

Pendley strikes out swinging.
Aviu walks.
PH for Arnold - Takiaho grounds into a FC.
Wodach grounds out to SS.

Game over.

A big win for Boston.

Bigger loss for OU. And I'm with Lefty on the flu thing. No one cares.

It definitely is an unexpected loss.
But I'd rather have one of those now...
than at the end of the season.

I can understand that you don't care - and that Lefty doesn't care.
But I am sure there are people - who do care.

Let me ask you this...
If one of the teams playing in the super bowl had more than half of the team ill with the flu...
do you think it would have been reported?
Do you think it would have effected the betting odds?

Information about the condition of a team's players is not somehow a "bad" thing.
It is just information.

Yes, they still have to go out and play the game.
Every team does the best they can with whatever injuries or health issues they have - for every game.
It does not "excuse" a loss.
But the information does add to people's knowledge about what took place.

What took place is Boston beat Oklahoma, plain and simple. Everyone was healthy enough to travel and play. No excuses. You have to play defense and hit the ball to win games at this level, regardless of who you play.

Boomer Sooner! On to the next one!!

A real shame they don't play a WCWS in Florida or California, as much as I love OKC, just to have karma run over your dogma, then back up, and do it again

Real shame they don’t play it in February, when the Ducks peak.

I will give you they haven't ever peaked in June. Inarguable. Just a fact

Flu, no flu, excuses, no excuses, whatever. She has them ready come June. Anyone betting someone goes undefeated? Anyone betting against OU being in OKC?

Oklahoma beats New Mexico State 2-0.
Parker hurls a two hit shutout.
Romero drives in both runs.

<< I guess the flu is gone? πŸ˜‚ >> (Softball98mom)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A team that has many of their players struggling with the flu...
can win a game - as well as lose a game.

The fact that they beat New Mexico State 2-0...
does not mean that "the flu is gone".

They managed to win that game while having the flu...
thanks largely to Parker's performance - a 2 hit shutout with 8 Ks and no free bases.
She faced just one more batter than the minimum in the game (22 BFP).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Btw... they had to do a whole lot of things poorly to lose that game vs. Boston.

The Sooner batters left a whole lotta runners in scoring position in that game.
Alo left Clifton on second base to end the 1st - with a weak pop fly into shallow RF.
Wodach left Pendley on second base to end the 2nd - with a line shot right to the LF.
Flores pinch hit for Arnold with the bases loaded and left them full to end the 3rd - with a ground ball to SS.
Romero left the bases loaded to end the 4th - with ground ball to second base.
With runners on 2nd and 3rd WITH NO OUTS in the 5th...
Arnold grounded out to the pitcher, Wodach grounded out to SS - and Mendes' deep drive to RF came an out too late to help.

Through the first five innings - Oklahoma batters left TEN runners in SCORING POSITION.

Despite failing to come through in so many opportunities with their bats...
the team still likely would have won the game 3-2...
if they had just made the routine defensive plays in the 6th inning.
If Mendes had made that catch in RF rather then having the ball drop off her glove...
Or if Parker had simply made a good throw to first base when the first batter she faced hit the ball back to her...
they could have overcome all of those offensive missed opportunities - and still won the game.

So... they had a poor game with their bats failing to come through - and their defense failing to get the job done.
Did their less than stellar health have anything to do with some of those failures..?
Perhaps... but that's the way the cookie crumbles some times.

I'm glad you caught my use of hurled in describing Parker's shutout performance.
I thought it was quite appropriate.

The Ducks should have Tony Romo as a mascot. They have a lot in common.

Last time the Cowboys made the final four was 22 years ago, not in 2014 or 2017.

Interestingly, in that time, Dallas has gone 0-5 in games against teams from Massachusetts with Romo 0-3

The Ducks are a more shiny version of Oklahoma St. Big time donor trying to buy a championship with facilities but they just don't have the tradition. Its not just softball, can't get it done in football or basketball either. The 2014 you speak of is the year you were the #1 seed and had you had THE pitcher in Hawkins on the mound. So the final four was a disappointment. The 2017 team basically give OU a bye into the final because everyone knows Oregon isn't going to win the big one, much less 2 in a row.

This year Oregon will look good, compile and good record and will probably make the college world series. But that just means they'll be the gate way for another team to win it.

LOL... that is a helluva limb, taking the field of 294 teams against one. Very cute.

No doubt that what teams with more similar circumstances such as Michigan, Washington and Bama did in 2005, 2009 and 2012 were incredible achievements. And UF pulling a repeat. Just incredible. The highest of congratulations to them.

What about Oregon women's track and field and its eight straight national titles? Oh, that's right... gotta ignore them because they have won natties in their hometown

I'm quite certain that most softball fans (of OU and every other school) understand that Lefty's anti-OU posts are done with one thought in mind: to get under the skin of all Sooner fans.  But, in truth, Lefty knows softball and he knows that the OU program under Gasso is one of – if not "the" – most dominant programs of the past decade.  Personally, I enjoy reading Lefty's "material" because I know it's 99.44% tongue-in-cheek.

Wish I could say the same for many of the mindless zealots who parrot every Lefty post but have never had an original thought of their own.

By the way, as I stated in another thread: Congratulations to Boston University on that huge win over the Sooners.

Inarguable among the sane.

Though the home-cooked umpiring LEGITIMATELY pissed me off last year, as it should anyone but the Boomyest of Sooners... It really isn't anti-OU.... it is anti-NCAA and its apathy and sexism that allows for 2018, yet again, to not have the replay baseball does.

But, that is a great post, scrybe

Yep, that was a big-time performance. I'm hopeful we will return the favor this weekend.

As a Sooner fan, I've gotta believe PG is one of the top all-time coaches in college softball. I also believe MC is right up there with her.
