As an example, it took a lot of wrangling for the Pac 12 to get their logo onto the floor of Pauley Pavilion.  And, when UCLA did it, it was out of bounds behind the basket.  Finally, grudgingly, the logo was put on the court and on the football field but only because the conference forced the issue.

The huddling mentality of other conferences just doesn't exist here.

Aside: The one UCLA sport I won't support is softball.  At least until KIP leaves.  So, when they got eliminated I celebrated.

Just wanted to add a sincere congrats to OU and OU fans.  That was incredible!  Two years in a row I have watched the championship series on tv with my daughter and both of us have become HUGE fans of the OU team, especially Shay Knighten.  Incredible talent on so many teams, and to have emerged as the best of the best... phenomenal!  Surreal, exciting, and a little bit scary to think that my daughter will be playing against some of these amazing players next year.

I, too, do not cheer for a conference.
Did not want a Pac-12 team to win the NC
Gators was my choice
Not a fan of Gasso

Congrats to Oklahoma and thanks for repping them Big 12 well. See you in Waco next year!

HoustonBear,
I was expressing my opinion based on what I saw at the games. Sitting in the stands, watching the earlier games, Florida looked like the superior team. OU proved me wrong. I was trying to emphasize what a great job Patty G did. Clearly OU has extremely talented players, Florida looked better to me early on. That was the point of my post.

Scupino why are you not a fan of Gas? She's great. Has that right combo of butt kicker and motherly figure that is so hard to be when you're a coach. I could play for her all day. Same with Walton. Great motivators, great at dealing with people in general. You cant go wrong with either one of them as a coach.

Florida and OU have won the last 5 WCWS championships. Not the SEC, nor PAC. Teams win not conferences nor rpi and formulas and asshats making Ou #10 (sorry auburn).
If seedings continued OU and Baylor would not have met in first round of WCWS...it would have been #2 Arizona versus #7 Auburn. OU and Baylor needed "upsets" to advance. Baylor was an actual upset. Ou was ranked incorrectly.

Ou fans weren't in stands cheering "Big12"..."Big12"......they were chanting "OU....OU.,..OU".
Arizona and UCLA fans weren't chanting PAC while they were winning championships. ESPn starts the SEC network and now the SEC...SEC chants are drilled in people's heads. Marketing.
In softball they dangled Pac in front of SEC fans and it is a talking memo for announcers. Many fans bought into it. Make the PAc great again. SEC Hope. I like ike. And any other slogan applies.
I take no pride in Bi12 team winning championship. No participation trophies saying "our conference was best". I didn't as a player in big8 years and don't now as a fan.
If Baylor won championship the narrative would not be Big12 and how great the conference is. And it isn't with Ou winning (even if 2 of the only 4 Big12 teams in tourney made into WCWS)
Let SEC and Pac debate over who is best conference---we will take 3 of the past 5 championships as best team. If Florida won it would have been 3 in 4 years and no other sec schools name on the trophies.
Florida didn't win because of sec...they won back to back because they are one of top programs in last 12 years in softball. They got close before they won it back to back.
Florida is like tennessee but Tim Walton got it done in clutch wheras ralph and karen weekly did not. They are the buffalo bills of softball.

Florida and tennesse were great programs before SEC network and the SEC adding A&M and Missouri and are still great.
Bama still had best and craziest fans at wcws. Arizona like in men's basketball gets upset when #2 seed. Mid majors were quiet.
In closing---Ou lost opening game in regionals and was down to last out versus tulsa. They limped to auburn for regionals. Then they didn't lose another game all the way to holding up trophy.
Proud of them. Winning the 17 inning game was critical. You don't press as much game 2 and you feel deflated losing what is more than 2 games in one. I giver Florida credit for the fight they had after losing game 1 and getting down 1 to 0. It wasn't over til it was over. Bama beat florida and florida had to win game 3 to advance....and Bama was a #16 seed. LSU took florida state's ticket.

Also...sad about the big10. No hosts and no top 16 this season. None made it out of regionals (all top 16 won ). No cinderellas this season either.
Also also....OU is not a dynasty. Ou is a top 5 program in country. UCLA and Arizona were dynasties. We may get there...but not there yet.
Great players like monica Abbott and Kat Osteman weren't on great teams but the dynasties of arizona and ucla gave them their last losses (arizona then ucla for osterman back to back).
Patty is doing a bad news bears and getting it done the last 2 years. Florida on the other hand is a machine and like a train it keeps rolling along. Great program.
Tennessee and georgia......your turn. Get it done. Louisianna....you too.

Leave it to Stoops to take the softball team out of the spotlight.

With that said, I hope he is healthy and not retiring because of illness or other bad news.

don't lump us in with those posters.   Us Gator fans take it on the chin, congratulate and get ready to do it again.  If you're a real sooner, than you're a homer too, we all are for our teams.  And ain't nobody shutting down.

You don't know Stoops at all. He is a huge supporter of softball at OU. He attends many games, in fact.

What you don't know is that a media outlet was about to break this news and they had to scramble to get in front of it. Riley was highly sought after last winter (some believe Texas was going to hire him if they didn't get the Houston coach). We knew he was the head coach in waiting, but we really don't know why Stoops decided summer was the right time. (Perhaps not to affect the top 5 recruiting class that arrives in August)

But rest assured. Stoops is an upstanding guy. He would never choose to steal the softball team's thunder if he had a choice.

EDIT: Posted on another forum. Take it for what's it's worth.
Bob has been seeing a cardiologist in OKC for the past few years. Apparently he has the same arrhythmia that his father had. His father had a massive heart attack on the field coaching a HS team and died there on the field due to that heart attack at age 54. The cause of that heart attack was the arrhythmia. Bob's Dr strongly recommended to him to "reduce the stress in his life or risk ending up like his father".

For a team thats fading fast they sure are recruiting well. They have the #1 ranked Flosoftball player coming in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Not to mentioned numerous other highly ranked players. If they hit on pitching the team will probably actually be better in the future than it is now. ]

Congratulations to the Sooners.   As a father of one of the Gators, I truly enjoyed the fight and resilience from both teams.  When the Sooners punched, we countered, then they countered back.  we just didn't have enough counters to get it done.  Was a privilege to witness arguably the greatest softball game ever, at least that I have ever seen.  As tired as I and everyone else was, the energy was electrifying.  I can just imagine how tired the girls were.   All I can say about Oklahoma is Bravo, and hopefully we will see you again in OKC.

Lots of OU fans would echo these thoughts. The series was exhilarating, exhausting, amazing -- thanks to the presence of two worthy opponents. Happy off-season!

If this staff keeps improving, the Sooners might even make it to the 9-seed next season.

They should be much better situated going into the 2018 season.  They lost one player from the 2017 team and she didn't contribute significantly on a consistent basis.  PG was developing a pitching staff early in the season so they weren't solely depending on PParker. They will no doubt drop some games, because I'm sure they will play a tough pre-conference slate.  I'm betting it will be another great season for the Sooners though.
