Excited to see how the Irish compete in 2019. Payton Tidd is a nice addition to the Fightin' Irish.

I wonder how much Halloway will improve this season. She was highly recruited and ranked #2 by FloSoftball (#1 pitcher). She didn't quite live up to the hype last season.

Great coaching makes all the difference in the world.

Competing as a true freshmen in the circle is very very hard

Good coaching matters though....

How they perform their first year is based on what they came in with. Not a ton of changes or improvements can be made in a few months, other than the mental and maybe some small tweaks. Pitch calling is another story, as that can make someone really successsul or not. Judging their improvement in year two is fair.

Notre Dame made it to a NCAA Regional Final in 2018, Holloway returns with a year under her belt, and they have a really, really good recruiting class coming in. I'd expect them to at least make it to a Super Regional over the next three years...

The class coming in is good overall, but they don't have any real game changers. I saw Tidd pitch a few times and I think she will help the team, but I don't see her supplanting Holloway.

Even when you saw someone like Barnhill, Alvelo or Garcia struggle with control etc. their freshman year, you knew they had dominant stuff and it was only a matter of time. Holloway is more of a finesse pitcher and she needs to be totally on when facing good lineups. I think she continues to struggle in those situations.

ND should be better but it looks like teams like MI and KY (who they faced in the regional this year) are getting better too. It would be a pretty big surprise to see ND in a super.
