Does this become a standard across all sports?

Don't think they really had softball in mind....

Bernard Muir, director of athletics at Stanford University.

The committee elected Bernard Muir, the director of athletics at Stanford, to serve as the vice chair of the committee for the 2017-18 season and the chair for the 2018-19 season.

Maybe not, just found it interesting that men's basketball is now defining quality win differently, with an emphasis on road wins.

I agree - it was in reference to Stanford torpedoing their softball program.

Reward teams that go on the road or move the season back.

The major difference between softball and basketball is weather doesn't affect 2/3 of teams in basketball the way it does in softball.  The cold weather softball schools need somewhere to go and while warm weather teams can certainly get out and play tournaments on the road and shouldn't host EVERY weekend, all those cold weather schools need somewhere to go!

The emphasis of performing well on the road is important, as was the need for teams not to be penalized as much for road losses. Beating elite competition, regardless of the game location, will still be rewarded, but the committee wanted the team sheets to reflect that a road game against a team ranked 60th is mathematically more difficult and of higher quality than a home game versus a team ranked 35th. We feel this change accomplishes that.

In softball that would be very good for SEC and PAC -12 teams, thus very bad for the best teams in weaker conferences.

So, was the Softball Committee secretly taking this "show me" approach when they refused to seed Minnesota?

Still.... makes ZERO sense when, two weeks earlier the committee has them 7.

Like I said, without that IDIOT May 6 reveal, there is no leg for Minnesota to stand on

Just because a team isn't playing at home doesn't mean it counts as a road game...
- 15 of MN's 27 pre-conference games were at a neutral site and 12 were at opponent's home.
- 17 of UCLA's 26 were neutral, 6 home and 3 away.
- 14 of FL's 21 were neutral, 5 home and 2 away.
- 3 of AL's 23 were neutral, 14 home and 6 away (3 @ UL Laf).
