I don't know what the situation is now but I heard that Allister didn't even want them to have any photographs of the field until opening day. She was afraid it would hurt recruiting. Maybe you could get WA to sign a reciprocal deal like they did with AL. My guess is AL won't be interested in extending, so that slot may be open :)

Fun trip to Evanston so far.  Yesterday Gophers took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the 7th.  Lost 3-2.  Today the game was delayed for a coupe of hours until the temperature reached 28 degrees.  3-0 Gopher lead in the second.  Northwestern tied it and chased Fiser.  Gophers took an 8-3 lead in the 4th.  NW cut it to 8-7 by scoring 4 off of Smith.  Gophers score 1 in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 9-7.  NW scored two in the bottom of 7 to tie it.  Lindaman leads off the 8th with her second homer of the game.  Gophers up 10-9.  And NW scores two in the bottom of the 8th to win 11-10.

The field of 64 is no longer guaranteed for Minnesota.

Amusing Gopher v. Illinois game.  In the first game, Gophers won 6-0 behind a Fiser no hitter and Lindaman's 12th dinger of the season.  So in the second game, Lindaman has been intentionally walked 4 straight at bats, including a few minutes ago to LEAD OFF the bottom of the 6th with the Gophers ahead 3-0 (Fiser pitching another shutout so far).

Gophers sweep the double header with Illinois 6-0 and 6-0.  That score unfortunately reminds me of my college tennis career, but I digress.

13 shutout innings for Fiser which is both very cool and somewhat disturbing.

Is there something physically wrong with Smith? Her numbers are pretty bad and she's on pace to pitch far fewer innings than any year at LSU.

Yes.  She was hurt and missed several games. She was cleared to return but has been ineffective.

8 plate appearances for Lindaman today.  A homer in her first at bat, and then 7 straight walks.

edit - think it was actually a walk first, a homer in her second at bat, and then 6 straight walks.

Ok thanks. It wasn't smooth sailing for Kelsee Selman her first year at Baylor but she bounced back strong her senior year, hopefully Smith does the same.

27 degrees and windy here today so I checked the MN softball twitter page and was amused to see that they are stressing that it is NO JOKE that the game is still on today. They moved it back to 2pm when it will hopefully reach a balmy 30.  Go get 'em Gophers.  Again, would love to be there but, er, I've got a thing.

edit - they pushed it back another hour.  Now a 3pm start.  Trying to start the game at the warmest time of the day.  Good luck.

Good job of rearranging the schedule to get all three games in before the storm.  Gophers sweep the series taking the double header today 6-2 in 9 innings and 11-1.  Great to see Syd Smith back in the circle for that second game, her first start in quite some time.  Lindaman hit her 15th.

Now the Gophers return home for 5 games against Wisconsin and Nebraska beginning Wednesday.  BUT we are expected to receive a foot of snow over the weekend.

Well I guess the Gophers won't be able to move their games to this dome on Wednesday.

Are you sure? I see something about her going to Stanford. Which would be for Allister. maybe that changed the other day on signing day.

Gopher softball just released that today or yesterday so I would be shocked if it was not accurate.  I did hear that she was originally committed to Stanford, but I have no idea what happened.

Stanford has the 'getting in' aspect that makes commitments 'soft' almost by definition

True, I just noticed that she was president of her national honor society chapter, but that doesn't mean the test scores or grades are where they need to be. looks like the article I saw was from 2016

Looks like Sydney Smith just took a line shot off the pitching hand. I hope she is OK.

Three game home sweep of Nebraska in front of sellout crowds, 10-1, 6-0, and 5-1.  Beautiful weekend for softball.  Finally!!  Lindaman hit her 17th homer of the season, off the scoreboard in right center.   Gophers home winning streak now stands at 26.

But very concerned about Smith.  Her pitching hand was in a type of cast today.  She was just starting to pitch well again after battling injuries earlier in the season.

If she had the choice to go to Stanford and to play for Allister and she chose otherwise.... something else must be going on.... honor bound to honor verbal; not that bright after all; disparity in money offered... something.

Gophers swept a double header from Wisconsin on Wednesday, 12-1 in five innings and 8-0 in six.  Tough break for the Badgers as Menz was injured before the game and they had to use an inexperienced pitcher to start game 1 (Hestekin was always going to start game two).  Gophers scored eight runs in the first inning including a three run homer by Dwyer and a grand slam by Partain.

Fiser pitched three stress free innings in game one and five perfect innings in game two.  Lindaman had seven plate appearances in the double header and walked seven times.  Smith didn't pitch but I didn't see a cast on her hand so hopefully that's a good sign.  Little Lowary pitched an inning and looked great to me.

In a five game home stand against Nebraska and Wisconsin, Gophers outscored them by a combined 41-3.

If MN played like this from the start, they’d be looking at a hosting job for regionals. Missed opportunity for the Gophers

Did they play a better preconference docket this year than last?

Absolutely. FSU x2 Arizona, UCLA, ASU x3, Kentucky, LBSU. Very strong non-con schedule.

Gophers beat Purdue 9-0 in 5 innings.  A five inning perfect game for Fiser.  She had a perfect game thru 5 in her last outing but was pulled after the 5th with a 7-0 lead.  Nice to see her get credit for a perfect game tonight.  She has retired the last 31 batters she has faced.

4-0 over Purdue. Fiser pitched the shutout but I am really starting to worry about how much she is pitching. I mean we have no chance to host, and we are safely, easily in the field of 64. So what’s the point of pitching her every game? Trying to win a meaningless BIG title? I don’t get it.

Maybe they're trying to get her prepped for the NCAA tourney? We all know she'll end up throwing every pitch for Minnesota because she's their best pitcher by far.
