If Minnesota has last year's record against THIS schedule, they will be a top-8 seed

If they perform how they’re capable, they’ll at least be a regional host in 2018

Really nice schedule! That double header at against ASU will be a telling day for two teams that have a lot of potential.

Why isn't there a early season US Bank Stadium series or tourney. Didn't the Gophers used to play some early season games in the Metrodome?

I attended many a Gopher winter game in the Metrodome, it was well attended for sure often featuring Minnesota v Mid Major Upper Midwest programs like Northern Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota etc. It was a lot of fun; 1 game at a time all weekend. But there is no longer a venue that can handle a D1 college game with bleachers in Minnesota that is affiliated with the University at this point... this year, US Bank Stadium is busy getting ready for a big game. Maybe next year.

With the RPI points being so important. They would need to draw other teams. than listed. No disrespect to them but that's the nature of the beast.

Baseball has UCLA, Washington and Arizona coming in the first weekend of March for a tourney at US Bank Stadium. It is doable to bring good teams here.

With Fiser and Smith the Gophers should be very strong in the circle and offensively they return most of their lineup. Should have no trouble winning another B1G title and advancing to the Supers or WCWS.

With three position players on the top 50 watch list, and a 4th who clearly should be, is this the best 1-9 lineup in the nation? By season's end we will probably be saying that this is the best lineup in the history of the sport. Screwed over last year. That's in the past, but revenge is a dish best served cold, and winter is coming.

Let me fix that quote up for you. "With three position players on the top 50 watch list who really shouldn't be on there because MN plays a cream puff schedule and in a cream puff conference that allows our players to pad their stats, I dream of having a clue as to what the best 1-9 lineup in the nation is because it sure aint MN". Much better now. Alabama put MN in its place last year. I am sure that they would love to play them several times this year so they could pad their record.

I hope they can somehow make it into the top 16 this year and get to host... but with the loss of their best pitcher - it will be a tough thing to pull off.

8-5 tight contest out of the gate vs a 200+ rpi team...... I know one game doesn't mean much, but not exactly the world beater someone on here has been promoting. Losing an All American and not replacing with an All American is going to be a HUGE hit, yes, pun intended. I would love to see the gophers reload, but after game 1, it looks more like rebuild.

I think the schedule is better than last year for sure. If MN does well against this schedule they'll probably host.
My guess is that they will struggle though. Smith is a good pitcher. But, she was the #3 at LSU and had a pedestrian era (3.35) in 50ish innings against top 30 rpi teams last year. Fiser has some potential but only had 13 innings against top 30 RPI teams (all against IL, rpi 27).
As far as the best 1-9 lineup, I might take Oklahoma but I think there are many I'd take before MN. The schedule definitely impacted the players' stats. In my opinion, MN falls short in the best measure of a lineup : performance against top pitching.

Gophers managed just one hit this morning. I am now willing to concede that this might not be the best lineup in the history of the sport.

Gophers bounced back with a 2-1 win over KY and then a 10-3 win over South Alabama. Hopefully they can get some injured players back before they head west.
