It's all good brother no one had posted there in 2 years. There is an actual D-day thread somewhere but I couldn't find it. Need to put Durden or PDAD on the trail of that thread for me. I'm at the nursing home and can't do as much from my phone

Watching those old movies of men in their landing crafts getting ready to jump off is ....... can't quite find the words: startling, awe-inspiring, just not sure.

These guys went up against a highly trained dug in army, on a beach.  For 100's of years Armies have been typically thrown off of beach landings like this one.

Antifa loosers should talk to these men that actually know what if f'ing means to bash a fash.

You don't normally see Obama lovers posting nice things about the military.  Disgusting or not, that comment stands.

That has nothing to do with your Marine Service.

Disparaging a USMC vet's support for our military, mike? Grandpa would be very proud of you.

No I think I'll be ok. Having a civilian bad-mouth my support for our military is aggravating, but 'disgusted' was too strong an adjective I suppose. My bad.

None at all.  I was rejected by the AF, USN, and even the USCG.

The only ones who would take me was the US Army Corp.  At the time, I was trying to get out of being a civil engineer, so that was not appealing.

Yet, telling me I support terrorists is totally within bounds.

ps - I didn't know you were a vet, but it wouldn't have mattered.  I am not, and have not, disparaging your service.

Following your logic, I know you supported Obama, twice.  Dems aren't normally fans of the military.

See how that works?

Kind of how you connected the dots to paint me as a terrorist supporter.  Remember that?

In fact, that is why I scrogged KIR's thread in the first place.

Not everyone is cut out for military service, whether it be physical, or otherwise. I myself have wondered if I would have fit in with the military structure, and how I would have reacted under combat conditions. I guess you never know until you've been there, and done that. Hats off to the guys that volunteer for the unknown, and even more so to the guys that got drafted, and managed to keep their sh#t together under combat conditions. I think everyone, both veterans, and civilian should ask themselves, if you were forced into combat, could you do it? Lot's of farm boys, and city boys got thrown into a buzzsaw during WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, against their wishes. How did they manage under the stress? If you were not on the front line, you can only speculate. I would be scared to death, and I'm sure they were to, but somehow, they pulled it off. That's uncommon valor in my opinion.

Great post Woody.

My dad, an AF vet, wanted me to go the AF Academy pretty badly.  He knew some folks, and I went through the interview/etc process.  During it all, I badly came to want to fly.  I passed the physical, but I had asthma as a kid.  I hadn't had it in years by the time I was a senior in HS - I played center and linebacker, and managed just fine.

Still, they booted me after I made the cut in all other ways.

When I graduated from college, I still badly wanted to fly.  At that time, they were downsizing the military, and they told me the only way they would accept officer's candidates was if I had done 2 yrs of ROTC in college.  Wish I had known that earlier, since I worked 30-40 hrs per week to pay for school.  ROTC would have covered that for me.

Anyways, that's why they all rejected me.  The Army Corps would take me to make me a civil engineer - to go design roads and stuff.  I hate designing roads and stuff, in spite of my degree, so I couldn't see much future in that.

Had any of them taken me, I would've jumped.  But, not during the "we won the cold war" downsizing phase.

I was PO'd about the asthma boot from the USAFA.  I wasn't real keen on it when I started the process, but as I went through it, I really came to want to do it.

Oh well.  I might've missed out on all of the Misc Forum fun had I made it into the USAF.

As Woody said - hats off to all of you who did do it.
