I don't know.  It's too depressing to think about.  I'll probably decide in early November.  Until then, I'll choose to survey the country flying around on my Grey Goose.

This is simple:

Play the cards you have.

If you don't like Trump, vote aganst him, or simply skip POTUS pick.

Maintain party affiliation.

Secure the downticket to lessen the negative impact (regardless who wins)

Work in the future to right the course.

Edit to add: and drink Grey Goose. [smile]

Bourbon, not Grey Goose.  In fact, next month my wife and I are going to KY for a few days to tour horse farms, bourbon distilleries, and get out of the city.

When we get back, we will begin very actively campaigning for a 3rd party.

Maintain party affiliation. no thanks.  knuckle draggers, sanders supporters, and media sellouts are not my crowd.  RNC is going to bleed money and membership.  I feel for Reince.  They only question now is do people stay gone past December or not.

Secure the downticket to lessen the negative impact (regardless who wins) this is critical.  the congress, of all things, is the last hope to preserve a constitutional government.

Work in the future to right the course. Edit to add: and drink Grey Goose. [smile] bourbon, neat

Your 3rd party vote has just as much chance as my Cruz write in.

At least a 3rd party vote will be counted. Your Cruz write-in won't unless he files as a write-in.

Write-In Candidates

Write-in candidates for President file a declaration of write-in candidacy with the Secretary of State. The declaration may not be filed earlier than July 23, 2016, or later than 5:00 p.m. of August 22, 2016. The declaration must include the information about and signed consent from the candidate’s vice-presidential running mate. In addition to the declaration, a write-in candidate for President must provide signed, written statements of consent to be a presidential elector candidate from 38 presidential elector candidates (the number of presidential electors that federal law allocates to Texas). Forms are linked below and may be obtained from the Secretary of State’s office.

Pragmatic? You want pragmatic? What's the highest percentage of the vote that a libertarian has ever recieved? If I thought he could win now I would care if my vote counted.

People have written mickey mouse and pat Paulsen in on ballots over the years. They are protest votes. I will vote for Ted Cruz and take a pic of it in the booth

You can't hope to secure the "critical" downticket without maintaining party affiliation. Keeping both minimizes damage from POTUS result (either way) and establishes base for 2020.

I heard tonight that a generic libertarian takes 15% against trump and Clinton.

w/o knowing who the 3rd party would be, there is no way to know if it's a viable option or not.

I think we can keep our powder dry for a few weeks yet.

why not?  not a smart ass response - I really don't understand why not.  all the names are on a general election ballot, so you can vote however you want.

Well, kind of by definition if you are voting straight R (except POTUS) you are maintaining party affiliation. And securing the downticket.

OK, maybe I can be convinced but a 'write in' vote STILL takes a vote from them two.  Same as a (L), it accomplishes the same purpose.  The (L) isn't going to win.

got it - can't vote straight ticket here anymore.  you have to select each one individually.  used to be able to check one box at the top, but not anymore.

So, write in Bernie, or Ross Perot. When you do so, rest assured you are casting a vote for Hillary.

Your picture will be the only evidence of your vote. Writing in Cruz or Mickey Mouse is the same as not casting a vote since it won't be counted. Protest votes are more meaningful if they show up in the results.

Except I will have a clean conscience and will have NEVER voted for someone I had to hold my nose when I voted [except Gore and I won't allow that again].  At the time I didn't know Gore was going to turn into a kook.  Dewy can't remember his votes, can you?

Mine

  • Ford
  • Reagan
  • Reagan
  • Bush 41
  • Bush 41
  • Clinton
  • Gore
  • Bush 43
  • McCain
  • Romney

I'm not advocating voting for Trump or Clinton - just looking at the other candidates for one that best represents what you want in a real candidate.

I've voted GOP with some exceptions. I recall voting Libertarian at least once as a protest in the last 3 cycles. I also recall giving strong consideration to Anderson in '80, Perot in '92 and Clinton in '96 - may have voted for Perot as a protest.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Anyone who voted for trump has voted for Hillary.  I will not vote for a lying, big gov't democrat, and that's what we have at the moment.

If Hillary wins, it's trump and his minions fault.

I will say though, that I think Hillary may make a better POTUS than trump.  I won't vote for, because I think she's crooked and should be in jail, but she still may be a better POTUS.

I voted for Cruz in the primary. I will vote for the GOP nominee in an attempt to stop Hillary from ruining our country. You will not vote for Trump. You have therefore enabled a vote for Hillary instead of cancelling it. You could vote for the nominee most likely to beat Hillary, but instead you would rather have a person like Hillary nominating Socialists to the SCOTUS. I get it, I understand that you don't like Trump, and would rather see a person as vile as Hillary and her Husband running our nation. Your choice, go ahead and vote for Hillary.
