March 20, 2012

Los Angeles, Calif. --

It would not be a Player or Pitcher of the Week award without a Lion’s name next to it. For the second time this season, LMU players have earned both PCSC Pitcher and Player of the Week awards. LMU (20-10) has received Player of the Week and/or Pitcher of the Week every week so far this season.

This week the PCSC honors RHP junior Molly Medeiros as PCSC Co-Pitcher of the Week alongside San Diego’s Jenni Lahitte. This week, Medeiros (14-5) earned herself two wins and one loss with a weekly ERA of 0.93 throughout 15 innings. Molly threw a two hit shutout against Iowa State, striking out five, making her the PCSC leader in shutouts (5), wins (14), and ERA (1.60). This is Medeiros’ second Pitcher of the Week award of the season, her seventh career honor. Medeiros is also the reigning PCSC Pitcher of the Year.

Earning her first career Player of the Week award this week is junior 3rd base and outfielder Skylar Segura. In the midst of her most successful season yet, Skylar has smashed all her personal career records in just this last week. Segura hit five doubles in four games, hitting .583 (7x12) on the week. In her standout game against Utah State, Segura went three for three with two doubles and triple, driving in four RBIs. Segura also went three for three against against Iowa State in a 17-0 victory, driving in an RBI. Slugging .917, Skylar is proving to be an essential piece of the Lion’s lineup. Hitting .341 in 30 games, Skylar is ranked third in PCSC in doubles.

The Lions are back in action Wednesday as they take on Long Beach State in a single game starting at 2:00pm at Smith Field. This weekend the Lions will host the Matadors from Cal State Northridge in a Saturday double header.
