PCSC Player of the Week, Sam Fischer
March 27, 2012
Los Angeles, Calif. -- Senior Shortstop Sam Fischer did not see much action at the plate this past weekend, but when she did, she made it count. After hitting her 14th and 15th career home run's this week, Fischer was walked a PCSC record of five times in a single game as the Lions swept Cal State Northridge this past weekend.
Fischer (Simi Valley, Calif.) went 2x3 this past week hitting her 14th home run Thursday in a loss to Cal State Long Beach and her 15th home run in a 9-0 win against Cal State Northridge. After her monster home run over the left field wall, in her first at bat, Fischer was walked the entire rest of the first game against Northridge, and walked the entire second game. Fischer was walked a total of eight times this week. In only three at bat's this week, Sam totaled three RBIs and three runs scored.
Leading the nation in hitting, (.533) Fischer is currently second in home runs with 15. Entering PCSC play this week Fischer has already matched her home run total from last season and is now chasing teammate and currently PCSC single season home run hitter Kelly Sarginson who holds the title with her 18 bombs last season.
This is Sam's fifth PCSC Player of the week honor this season, the ninth of her career. Behind PCSC Pitcher of the Week, Jessica Lemmon from Saint Mary's was junior RHP Dana Waldusky who earned a Pitcher of the Week nomination after going 2-1, pitching ten innings, giving up only five hits total and striking out eight.
The Lions begin conference play against Santa Clara at Smith Field this Saturday and Sunday with doubleheaders starting at 10am both days.
