That's correct - it's similar to the brackets used in WCWS. It does ensure a single championship game for live tv and ESPN was a partner for PGF's first year.

I think the Sue Enquist post is ridiculous. These girls made obscene gestures on a picture that plenty of people were going to see. Suspend them and let them cry and their parents cry about it. Move on.

What's the big picture here, the picking signals off or the flipping off? Most don't want to know signals, too confusing for the batter. The flipping off obviously confused no one.

Enquist tells them to own their mistakes. And for those who might be experiencing pangs of  embarrassment and no little amount of remorse she councils them to realize one stupid action is not the sum total of who they should be, while suggesting how to move on in a positive fashion. Maybe a little dramatic, but I think it is pretty good advice.

Why does she need to tell them anything. They acted stupid and got their punishment. Game over. Who said they needed her counseling? Comparing what a kid does to what a grown woman softball coach does in a fit of stupidity is lost on me.

Unlike all the stupid things that I did growing up, the stupidity of these girls went viral nationally, amplifying exponentially in their minds what they did.  My guess is Enquist surmised that and spoke out.  But, I can see your point regarding the difference between the two.

If it's what I routinely see, it's not picking signals but signalling location.

In the end, these are still very young girls. I'm not saying they don't know right from wrong, but they are impulsive and don't think about consequences in the moment. I think the letter from Sue was great for them. She's letting them know that even the great ones make mistakes and come back from them. They are still kids that need guiding and mentoring. She's also telling them they need to own up to it and accept their punishment. But in the end, they'll learn a valuable lesson.

They are kids and they got what they deserve. If they don't learn from that they'll never learn from Sue Enquist. She came out of the blue with that to make herself relevant.

I can appreciate the lesson to be learned from SE's letter.  The bigger lesson however, is learned from the disqualification.

Great job by Enquist recognizing these are still just kids who made a mistake and who should not be subjected to idiots on the internet

In my view, Enquist was just trying to be helpful. She saw some young kids that did something stupid - and offered some advice she thought might be helpful to them. I say good for her. If even one of those players benefits from her note... then that is a GOOD THING. And it is quite likely many other young players, who were not even involved in this particular incident, may benefit from the message she sent out to these kids. Thanks for taking the time to speak out - and address these players, Sue. Your message was a good one... and hopefully they will benefit from your advice.

But you sure don't change the result of a game based upon actions after the game that had nothing to do with a game that was played and where nothing was in dispute.

You simply disqualify the Atlee players in the semifinal, declare it a forfeit, and "poof", Kirkland did not lose that game.  Forget self-respect as a factor; LLSB NEEDED them to play that game, any way you want to look at it, so Kirkland needed to play that game.  It's really that simple.

Worst case, Coach Enquist's comment did no harm. Best case it was a positive influence on the lives and characters of these girls and many others. Even now, after how many years of retirement, she is probably still the best softball coach on the planet.
