Any thoughts on the upcoming team? It's gonna be difficult to replace Prince in the circle, but I've heard good things about Fr. Grace Baalman.
Does anyone have a link to the 2017 season stats for UK?

Did anybody see that Kentucky has Humes listed as a Freshman on the instagram?

Figure this to be a down year and that conference schedule will not help.

We don’t know how Baalman will compete in the circle, but they are saying the transfer Humes was the real deal in D2

I attended one of the doubleheaders and I thought Baalman was the best of the five pitchers I saw. Rethlake has definitely gotten better but I think she is another Lauren Cumbess type, a good pitcher but more useful and effective as a player/hitter and supporting pitcher than a #1 pitcher. That's asking an awful lot out of a D2 transfer and a freshman.

We will see! I would like to see them do well. They usually have decent pitching, but the offense has always kind of lacked

I guess they will be hoping for a repeat of 2013 when Nunley was a freshman and they had just graduated Bell and Riley.

Defensively, the KY SS has got to be one of the best in the nation

When she was at 2B with Stokes at SS the defense was great. When she moved to SS the defense at 2B suffered big time, but she was terrific replacing Stokes.

They will have to make a tremendous adjustment to pitch in the SEC. Its hard and the hitters are good.

Que it up to 1:05:45, with the score 3-1The live camera was not the best, but the replay gave it some of its due

Ye that was about as good as it gets. That kid is a freak show. Possibly the worst call in the history of softball was the illegal pitch call on Prince @ the 1:05 mark which scored the run. Unless I missed something her mechanics looked pretty good. If that had been Barnhill, CRICKETS. That call is EVERTHING wrong with the Umpires. Anybody know if any of that crew worked any Florida games in the WCWS?

She didn't have the back foot touching the rubber. Now, there is definitely no money TV shot showing it (just like the camera work missed the Reed superstar play later that inning in live speed) -- as we have with others who have gone uncalled for it, but I am told that that was a clear foul.
It was called with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning. Kentucky eventually grabbed a 5-2 lead after six innings.
It feels like that being a foul on the level of a replant is a little nuts, but the rules are the rules. The 3B ump was Steve McCown, who does a lot of SEC and Big 12 in Texas.
He had 3B for a Silkwood game last year and there were no balks. smh
So, it may have come down to a Hall of Fame former pitcher in the 3B coaches box telling him that he had better call the obvious foul or it would get nuclear. Who knows?
If Oregon could have stunned the world and swept on Sunday in OKC, it would have been interesting, those next couple of days.

Ye, foot off back of rubber is legit, ticky tack but legit, great point. So if McCown worked any amount of SEC did he ever work Florida/Barnhill I wonder. I'm thinking no because if he had AND had called ANY illegal pitches it would have been the lead story on every Network. As pathetic as all the No Calls on Barnhill have been, has ANYBODY ever actually spoken with any SEC Umpire who has explained why it's not called?

<< Que it up to 1:05:45, with the score 3-1. The live camera was not the best, but the replay gave it some of its due. >> (3LT) Thanks for posting it. Her first step reaction time is excellent - and her full out dive to get to the ball was done to perfection. Then when she gets to her feet - she takes a quick glance at the runner heading home - and realizes her best play is to first base. Everything she did in that play was done perfectly. I loved listening to the TV color commentator's comments right after the play happened (and during the replay of it): "Are you kidding me! Katie Reed absolutely unbelievable! She just saved this game from being tied up. One of the best shortstops I've seen. Look at this lay out! Oh my goodness! She comes up - understands that Rhoads has speed. Gets the out. Man - I'm in awe up here! That was amazing!" Then - just for good measure... the next batter lines a shot and Reed times her leap perfectly to make the catch and end the inning. And as the second batter in the next half inning - she just misses hitting one out when her drive hits the wall about a foot below the top of the wall and maybe six inches foul.

The shadow of the ball approaching the wall on that foul is transfixing
