KC got a national championship (08) and brought much positive notice to her sport. How many youngsters will take or are taking up softball because of her 4 years at ASU? No trophy this year perhaps, but a champion none the less.

What a thrill it's been for our family to get to know PD and KC over the past 2 years.  It's been my honor to watch her and what a pleasure to trade emails with Mr. C.

I can't think of anything better than for a bunch of 7th graders to have Ms. Katie in the classroom and then on the field.

Whoever is lucky enough to have her in their lives, will be fortunate indeed.

An excellent example - in word and deed - of someone paying it forward.

Congrats Katie and thanks for sharing your immense talent, leadership and tremendous kindness, with the rest of the world.

Opposing coaches are happy to see her eligibility end. As a fan of softball, I hate when seniors have to go. But I know Katie will move on to bigger and better things. She's got a national title, 4 years in OKC. A model student-athlete, an all american on the field and in the classroom. Kudos Katie, on an amazing career as a softball player and a college student. We know your parents are very proud.

Katie Cochran is one of the greatest all time players ever.  She will be back in OKC later this summer.  Best of luck to her with USA softball and in the teaching and coaching profession.

This Arizona fan sends Katie and her family the highest of regards. She is simply among the few finest ever to play the game. Add the kind of class and character that makes friend and "foe" alike pause in respect, and you've got one of the most admirable young ladies anywhere anytime. Proud Dad is properly named.

What a wonderful coach Miss C is going to make. As much as I dislike coming out on the short end to ASU, I'm sorry Katie's time in that uniform is over. She was and is a pleasure to watch, a real credit to women's softball, indeed college sports.

In shedding a tear as her final college game ends, she is in a sense expressing a broader grief that this day has come for her, and us.

Good for you, Katie, and the best of luck in what you do next.

Katie Cochran and family: Thank you. That picture of Katie with tears flowing down her cheeks at her last collegiate game is indelible in my mind. Great caring and wonderful performances. One of the very best collegians to ever play the game.

I was watching the Bama-ASU game with some friends of mine who know very little about college softball.  (I am trying to get them hooked.)  When Bama was up and they kept showing Katie on ESPN in the 7th, I was talking about how great she was and how I (someone who really has no connection to her) was sad to see that be her last game at the WCWS.  They just didn't understand.  They asked why I would feel sad for someone on the opposite team, "she is the competition" they said.  I responded with "Yes, she is the competition.  But right now this is more than just competition.  This is about seeing one of the greats for the last time on this stage."  They still didn't get it and probably never will.  That's what makes this sport so fantastic.  At the end of the day, we, as softball fans, respect and admire all the players who go out and not only excel on the field, but excel in all facets of being a student-athlete.  Katie will be missed, but I know that she will continue to do great things in her life.

Congrats on a great career!!  Such a great representation of this sport by both Katie and PD!!  Very classy people (much more so than what we saw from Lebron after his loss last night )!  It's been a pleasure and best of luck to you all with your future endeavors.

Hillary Bach you are a wonderful pitcher but an even greater person. Thanks for putting the team on your back and carrying us to OKC! What a Proud Dad Gary is, we have been thrilled getting to know you and just loved watching you pitch! Keep smiling!

As an 'easterner' I regret I haven't had the opportunity to see KC play more. I love her defense as much as her offense!  As for Bach, she's a true pleasure to watch.  I suspect she'll get a title before she leaves ASU.

It has been a pleasure watching Katie dominate for four years. Yesterday when she dedicated the season to Bonnie Young was just another indication of what a class act she is. Pat I know you couldn't be prouder.
I hosted the Memorial yesterday for Bonnie and it was heart warming to see the over 200 guests that attended. Bonnie was truly a wonderful lady. We laughed we cried but most importantly we celebrated Bonnie's life.
When Katie dedicated the season to her I had people calling me crying, we cried together.

When I think of Katie, I'll recall three pictures in my mind:

  1. 2008 WCWS after hitting a HR in the championship game; the absolute JOY on her face when she hugged the coach near the 1st base dug out . . . will never forget that.

  2. 2009 WCWS with a tear running down her right cheek and then a moment later when she got the sense that she might hit again.  The change from 'young woman' to 'competitor', in that instance, amazing

  3. The smile on my daughter's face, that lasted for weeks, after KC spent an hour on the phone speaking with her about how to make a future and let softball help do that . . . priceless!
Three small snapshots in a 'purpose driven' life . . . we'll always be fans for reasons way more important than Kaitlyn's ability to hit a ball.

Completely echo the comments from all of you. Even though we didn't get to see her play as much in the south, I found myself emotional watching her in the last inning.  The amount of class that comes from that program and this family is just awesome!!!!

I echo all the sentiments here. It is hard to see great careers come to an end. Especially when it ends in a loss. The feelings I had last night watching the end of the ASU game were the same I felt watching Jennie Finch's and Amanda Freed's last games. Great ambassadors for the sport. What makes them so isn't how talented they are, but the type of people they are. The type of teammates they are. Katie is that. She is a special player and more importantly a special person. I wish for her nothing but the best.

My initial thought, when I saw the tear rolling down her face, was that ESPN was being intrusive but on reflection I think it shows her softer side and creates a lot of empathy.

The very first time I ever saw KC hit was the Youtube clip of a homer that I dont think has landed yet....
I was completely floored and then to have the privilege to meet and get to know PD....
Its been an honor...

As an Alabama fan I was glad to see my team come out on top, but I was very upset to see Katie's collegiate career come to an end. I was among those that were crying for her. She is truly a role model for young girls and she has played with a lot of heart and class for 4 years and she will be missed. I like ASU and their program, but watching Katie play for them always made me like them a litle bit more. She is truly something special and she will go a long way in her life with her work ethic and her attitude. ProudDad, you have alot to be proud of, you have raised not only a great softball player, but a great person.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the kind words.  It is so great to know that there are so many wonderful fans and players that I have come to know and love.  I cannot believe that it is over.  I have been so blessed and so honored to wear the Sun Devil uniform and experience the atmosphere of OKC.  You have all made my days at Arizona State that much more memorable and worthwhile!  But now, I must start a new chapter in my life.  We'll see where I end up!

I just want to congratulate the teams who made it to OKC.  I am sure they have put in so much time and hard work and it is great to see that it has finally paid off!  Good luck to all in their future endeavors!
