LSU!!!!

I believe she's from Illinois, and she's a pitcher with a lot of power for a 14 year old. She's a 2010 commit, and will complement our signing of Rachele Fico.

LSU also signed Lauren Houston from St. Thomas Moore for 2010 also.

toroman - Not that unique. A recent thread here was devoted to discussing the merits, negatives, and myths of early verbals.

I just know she's in the 2010 recruiting year. I know she's been talked about on here a few times. Someone was posting about her pitching 68mph in 13-14 year old leagues, so I assume she's 14-15.

JG, I think Toroman is questioning the fact that if she will graduate in 2010, she would currently be a junior.  How can she be a 14 year old high school junior?  When my daughter was a junior, she was 16.  17 when she was a senior, bday in April and she was 18 when she graduated.

Just an FYI, I am a parent that is somewhat close to Terry Coonce and his daughter Kaley. My daughter plays on the same travel team as Kaley. Kaley is a junior this year and a 2010 grad. She will be a second year 16U in 2009, but will play for the Southern Force 18U Gold team. Kaley is a very talented player that possesses tremendous power from the left side. She plays first and pitches. She is one of the top right handed pitchers and left handed hitters from Southern Illinois. She will be a huge impact player for LSU. Congrats to Kaley. I wish her the very best.

It just sounded like somebody had their facts wrong with a 14 yr old junior.  I guess some kids accelerate, but usually not athletes.

Frank, I still think the early verbals is a practice that needs to change.  How does a kid early verbal to a college with high admission requirements before they even take the first sat/act?  I realize that is not the purpose of the thread, but repsonding to your comment.

With that being said, I wish this young lady luck and hope all her dreams come true.

Wow...what a good get for the LSU Tigers!  Having 2009 Fico and then 2010 Coonce in the circle will be a great one two punch.  I guess the new stadium, great sports environment and exciting conference are paying dividends!

Kasey Coonce played her freshman year of softball at the University of Illinois. She transferred to University of Georgia for her sophomore year. Her junior year she played softball for a college in Tennessee called Trevecca Nazarene University. According to the Trevecca website she is still listed on their roster for the 2008-09 season.

Trevecca has some good softball, usually in the NAIA World Series.

Then again, if a playa can't cut it at the likes of U. Illinois or Georgia...I guess going to another program that might not be as tough would help them seem/be successful?

Agreed....That's the norm.  But also, depending on the region and when the player started kindergarten,  some (e.g. often those with Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. birthdays) graduate hs  at age 17, start their college careers at age 17 and turn 18 during the fall of the freshman year.  (can't even open bank accounts and sign med forms until the player is 18, so parental signature required for both).  A 14 year old high school junior is to say the least, unusual.

Hammer,
the Chinese should take those gymnast and turn them into a 12u team to get them ready for the 2016 games when softball will be reinstated.
Don't you believe that will happen in 2016.... just ask any member of ucs, its a lock.

toroman, I for one am all for the reinstatement of softball in the Olympics, as nowdays it is the only sport that I am more interested in watching, even though most of the games that the US plays are somewhat one sided.
I believe that the reinstatement of softball will be very dependent on which country will get the 2016 Olympics.
If it's a US city, or Japan, then we most likely will get in, but if it's any other country then it's a toss up.
