I know there is already one for transfers but that is from within Division 1 so use this for any junior college kids who have committed to play Division 1...

Let's see!

I really would love to see a stat sheet of all the JUCO kids from last year and their performance in D1 this year

Good lord, going from 26 home runs to 1 lol

I didn't think Getting was bad, just needs to maybe cut down the walks. Maybe with a year under her belt she will be take some steps forward next season. Need another strikeout pitch.

Juco players are a big risk. The level of ball is spotty and when you raise the competition to D1 I'd say at least 3/4 ths of them don't pan out.

I would agree 100%, in fact you may be a little light with the 3/4. I know there are always circumstances, but there is a reason most are not DI out of HS. We picked up 2 last season and they looked awesome during our weak pre-conference schedule. Once we got into conference neither hit over .150, and they were both brought on because we needed big bats. [smile]

Plus, Gettins was an international... her ending up at Fla SW was more a function of not being able to see her than a pure inferiority of abilities

imo

If Gettins was coming out of NZ and was a prime time pitcher, Mike White would have had a direct connection to her.

I'm not saying she is elite D1.... but she is no dime-a-dozen JUCOer

Agreed. Only a few I can think that successfully transferred into D1 play, and on the top of that list is Vicky Galindo out of CAL.

She is from my town Long Beach, MS. Even though I am a Vols fan, I look forward to watching her play in the SEC.

More likely Roberts when he was at WA, since he is the NZ pitching coach. Maybe at Buffalo (though she had already committed to AL) but no place for her at WA.

I thought she did well with AL but she isn't going to be your #1, no way.

Who will be Alabama's #1 pitcher then? Montana Fouts who hasn't pitched a game in college yet, Krystal Goodman who hasn't pitched a D1 pitch yet, Madison Preston who pitched maybe 1/2 to 1/4 of the innings that Gettins pitched, or Courtney Gettins who pitched the most innings and didn't do that bad??

I imagine Fouts if she does what she normally does and makes proper adjustments will likely be the main pitcher next season. Gettins will probably see significant reps I imagine. She had some positive moments last season and does have some ability for sure

I believe Goodman is a very solid pitcher but I am extremely hesitant on Juco players.... I will have to take the wait and see approach on that one.

But Alabama will really need Fouts to step in and somewhat play to her potential. Their offense should be much improved next season especially with Wallace coming in as well.

Fouts will likely be the ace. Alabama is very confident in what she will do. If not, Gettins or Goodman because Preston is not cut out for that

Better question would be which New Zealand pitchers played in the U.S. and were good enough for a WS team during his nine years?

And Connie Clark, who won titles at Central Az under Candrea, then came in and won a D1 title at Cal St Fullerton.

I've seen Fouts pitch. She has the talent, and I think she will be the #1. It really depends on how she adjusts to college, pitching vs throwing etc. If she can't do it, I guess Gettins would be the #1, but if that happens I think AL will be in trouble.

White did not have any NZ or Australian pitchers to my knowledge. If Gettins is Alabama's ace they will finish at or near the bottom of the SEC.

On the women's side, probably none. There are a couple coming up that are pretty good that are FR/SO in high school. We'll see what happens. A lot of them, too,  have no idea the disparity of facilities/training etc playing for team NZ vs playing for a high-level US college team. I know one guy who was a team NZ rower and had some interest from some big time US rowing schools. NZ, like AUS, don't really have high level college sports so he didn't really think that was an option. Later on he was taking a tour of the crew facilities at UW and was like "oh. my god".  Another case was the current men's team giving the women's team crap for even playing a US college team (OR) let along losing games. They had no idea that the Ducks would most likely beat all but 2 existing national teams (and would likely give them a run), and have a stadium that costs more than the entire budget of the NZ women's national team for the last 15 years.
