Here is your opportunity to go way out on a limb - and make a prediction, based on a way too small early sample size (after only a couple of 2018 games).

This is mine.
After seeing Oklahoma freshman Jocelyn Alo play in just two NCAA softball games... I see her as the real deal. She just might be the one to break Lauren Chamberlain's HR record.

How's that for going WAY out on a limb (and on a tree that has just started to sprout).

-------------------------

Alo went 4 for 7 with two walks in her first two games. She had an EBH in each game (a HR and a ground rule double). So she has produced 8 TB plus 2 BB while making just 3 outs... so far. She looks SO comfortable at the plate... and SO menacing to the opposing team's pitchers.

On defense, Alo and Aviu split time in LF.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I'd enjoy hearing everyone else's "way too early" predictions.

Come on, Lefty...
The title spells out that this is "way too early predictions".
Let's hear one from you...

I predict that there will be replay review at the CWS for the fifth straight year, and not at the WCWS for the fifth straight year.

Did college baseball become a revenue sport during one of my five-minute naps?

I predict that Alabama will win most of their games 1-0 this year.
I predict that Ocasio will be in the top 3 for POY.
I predict that Troy will make the NCAA tournament.
I predict that FSU will win the ACC undefeated and not make the WCWS...again.

It's not too early to predict that. Seems like a sure thing.

I will make another one...
Oregon's fate at the WCWS will be determined by a key play that D.J. either comes through on - or fails to come through on.
This will be either an at bat where she comes through big time in a huge situation (or fails to come through)...
or a key defensive play - that she either makes or fails to make.

Arizona will miss out on the WCWS for the 8th straight year.

A team from the pac will break through and win the WCWS this year.

That's a pretty short limb.  Jocelyn Alo has the opportunity to pass Lauren Chamberlain.  Recall that Lauren was injured in her junior year and only played in 39 games. Jocelyn will have to average 24 home runs over 4 years to break the record.  Oklahoma has averaged 65 games for the last several years.  She will have to average 1 home run in every 2.30 games to achieve her 24 homers a year.

The question is whether Alo can develop the consistency to hammer out 4-baggers on this routine basis.  We see the potential for it.  True home run champions develop the skills to do it day in and day out.

Are you suggesting that Alo breaking the career HR record - is closer to being a sure thing...
than a "way too early prediction" after she had played in just two games..?

I think I was pretty clear in what I said.  The question is whether Alo can develop the consistency to hammer out 4-baggers on this routine basis.  We see the potential for it.  True home run champions develop the skills to do it day in and day out.

Has she shown that potential up to this point?  By all accounts she has?  The potential is there for her to make it a short limb.  It's not a "way too early prediction."  Hers is a shorter limb than Kelsey Arnold's was 4 years a go.

I am not going to spill a bucket of ink defending what I said.  It wouldn't change minds or attitudes anyway.

The potential for doing something...
is VERY FAR from equating to actually accomplishing that something (especially when that something is breaking the NCAA career HR record).

Here is how I see this:
Alo had two HR in her first four games.
She has zero in her last three games.
She has gone 2 for 9 with 3 TB for a .222 BA and a .333 SLG% in those last three games.

Seeing her as a sure thing to break the career HR record after 2 HR in her first 4 games...
has about as much validity as seeing her as a bust because of her stats in the last 3 games.

I am a big fan of Alo.
I would love to see her hit 20 HR this season - or even 25 - or 30.
Could that happen..??
I'd say, yes... it could happen.
But to suggest that it is something close to a sure thing...
seems "way too early" to me.
