I was sent this information from a travel coach. It's the material he gives his players to help in their recruiting efforts. I'm very thankful he was willing to pass this along to others that are looking for such information. Files are in PDF format.

Robocoach,

I think these are great items of information.  I would suggest however, that contact information differs depending on the NCAA level, NAIA and juco.  I wonder of putting a link to NCAA, etc for the rules would be better.  I have seen the rules change from one year to the next and going to the source is probably best.

NCAA recruiting guidelines are here

http://www2.ncaa.org/legislation_and_governance/eligibility_and_conduct/recruiting.html

Here is a good little presentation of NCAA requirements put out by the NCAA to define visits and eligibility.

NCAA recruiting calendar can be found here.

Did the July 1 before the senior year date change to March 1 in 2005?

For D-1, in sports other than basketball and football, one in person contact during the month of April is permissible, subject to recruiting calendar restrictions.  That's it until after July 1.

Haven't you guys been reading the posts under 2007 recruits? All you need to do is have your young athlete, freshman-senior, make an unofficial visit to the college of her choice & that coach will make her an offer & she can verbal! You don't need no steenkin' rules, circumvent them!!! All the "GOOD" coaches are doin' it!

I guess I thought this was dangerously close to being illegal because I'm always hearing certain coaches talkin' about rules stating the "black out" period & mentioning certain dates, present timeframe included, as well as the above July 1st as times, that they can't "talk" to athletes?? Why have these rules because, from what I'm reading right here, here's the message loud & clear: ATHLETE, GO ON UNOFFICIAL VISITS TO ALL OF THE COLLEGES YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FROM FRESHMAN YEAR ON & THE COACH WILL MAKE YOU AN OFFER SO YOU CAN VERBAL TO THAT SCHOOL...NO NEED FOR NO STEENKIN' RULES! RIGHT? WHY HAVE THEM?

In response to the question about one phone call in March, that rule DID go into effect in 2005, then changed back to ONLY basketball last year. So D-I coaches may no longer call a prospect in March or meet with her at her high school in April.

Coaches have to wait until July 1 after your junior year to phone you (Div. I). For Div. II, it's June 15th after the junior year is completed.

It's great that you're all paying close attention to the constant swings in recruiting-- new trends, rules, getting players noticed, etc. I want to let readers know that my web page has moved. It's now at http://www.fastpitchrecruiting.com. This site has my info on recruiting (Cathi Aradi), info on clinics, my book, my articles and FAQ's on recruiting and some great links.
