Since I decided to jump in today and start posting I will ask a question I am curious about. Maybe you guys/gals, with a lot more knowledge on college softball than myself, will have a valid opinion on.

Will Shonda Stanton make Indiana relevant in the BIG 10?

No, really? Considering what she did at Marshall, Indiana should do quite well in that Conference with her at the helm. All she needs is a few of 'her' kids in there. She's a good one.

As long as the B1G continues to hire only women softball coaches, they will never be relevant outside of the Wolverines.

With former Franklin Central Flash & Kentucky star Chandra Bell as pitching coach the Hoosiers will do
much better.

Good pitchers do not necessarily make good pitching coaches.

She will get them MUCH better than they have been.

They will not get to the point where they are super relevant at that national level.

Sorry if this seems like a silly question but I am an admitted newbie.

Is this because it is Indiana or is it because she is not that type of coach?

I mean in general. Just because you are good at something doesn't mean you will be good at teaching it.

Absolutely agreed.  Someone who is dominant in DOING often times has a difficult time conveying the proper mindset to BE dominant and the best.

Bell coached Dixon all 4 years at Marshall, and she was a force to be reckoned with. Good pitcher. Speaks highly of Bell to me

The Gophers were relevant with Allister and I'd expect the same with Trachsel.  If you're just talking about the post season I'd have to agree they haven't done anything yet.

What am I missing with Stanton's record? Marshall made a great run last year, but hadn't they basically been a .500, 100+ RPI team prior to that? She's certainly better than the previous staff, but there's a lot of history to overcome before they'll attract the recruits that will make them a top three Big 10 program. The need to start with keeping the in-state Pitchers home. It's a great school with great facilities, they should be able to attract some talent but I don't think Stanton will be an immediate savior. If they wanted immediate recruiting results they would have bucked the trend and made a different hire.

Cali makes some good points, word is several committed kids have now switched to other Big 10 teams and another to the PAC, she brings an exciting brand of softball but will she be able to bring in top kids? Marshall was good in the Con USA but went 2 and BBQ in the regional including a run rule loss to Illinois.....

You talking about former coaches commits switching their verbals? There's a reason Indiana fired their coach. Maybe we can start with recruiting...

That said, there is a freshman SS who will be fun to watch. Annika Baez from AZ. She's a good one.

They cut ties with several of those recruits. Some of those that changed to other B1G schools are going as walkons

Baez out of Tucson Ironwood Ridge High School
This former Nighthawk should do well in Bloomington

I agree. Athletic kid with a good arm. Sounds like her bat has made a good transition also this Fall into the College game.

Stanton most likely happy she's there I'd think. She had initially recruited a very solid SS out of Va into Marshall, Grayson Radcliffe. Baez in the same mold. Both be fun to watch.

I've worked with her a couple times as a student and she helped me immensely. She also developed Lee at Ole Miss nicely.
