Hoosiers break the top 25 in the coaches poll for the first time since 1996. Coming in at #24.

How much can we expect from them this year?

I think they can compete with any and everyone on their schedule. Of course, maybe I’m partial because they beat my Dawgs, but that’s the thing— Trainer silencing the Georgia bats (for the most part anyway) immediately got my attention. Anyone that overlooks Indiana will catch the L.

Furthermore, I’d say there’s a pretty good chance they go into the LSU invitational undefeated.

Hoosiers seem poised for a great year and the team plays with swagger that you are much accustomed to seeing in a more traditionally successful program, but I think Trainer is poised for a breakout senior year and the Big 10 should not sleep on this team!

Stanton is an extremely demanding coach to play for; personally, academically and athletically. I'm seriously impressed by the buy-in she's received, not only from this years team but the girls from last year as well. This early success is going to pay off huge with future recruits. I don't think anyone in the Big Ten was sleeping on them after they swept Ohio State last year. Now teams outside the conference have to take notice. I still think they'll be some bumps in the road, but there's a legit chance at the tournament for the first time in a decade.

I think they’ll sweep Syracuse, but Duke could be trouble. [wink]

I know a lot of people are overlooking what the Blue Devils are doing but they’re not fooling me. St. George and company won’t be easy.

About the buy in..

I heard an interview with Stanton about her first meeting with the team when she took over last year. When the players were allowed to ask questions, one player stood up and asked "what do we have to do to be a top 25 team." Sometimes the players do want it.

I was fortunate to take the team I coach to an IU game last year. Coach Stanton addressed the team in their locker room. She was all about team and being a strong student first. I left very impressed with her and her staff.

I would say Georgia is their only great win. They have good wins over Duke twice, Loyola Chicago twice, and FAU. Again, not great wins but likely wins that will look decent by the end of the season

What a great start they are off to. Their coach has done a great job.  More problems for the middle of the pack teams in the Big 10 who are not getting better!

Well Duke is a program in its 2nd year of existence. Last year they finished over .500, which is impressive for a first year program. They’re very young and will likely be better this year than last.

LC’s only two losses on the season are to Indiana.

FAU is a team that makes the NCAA tourney on a decently regular basis.

That’s last year, which has no bearing on this year. Look at Indiana.

Nice game last night, I believe I saw the better team win last night.  You all dominated in every facet of the game.  I believe your coaching staff has it going on, just seems to have good command and control of the game. That then shows in the players, a little aggressiveness with umps who had at least two bad calls last night when looking at replay.

The Hossiers remind me of old school softball, make the defense earn the out.  This launch angle power ball is so easy for teams to defend when they are not flying out of the park.  You all put 4 runs on the board without the ball leaving the infield in  innings. That is good softball to me.  Again Congrats on whipping us,

Pure class, WFTiger

Now, the Hoosiers become the biggest LSU and Georgia fans on earth!

Your reality is pending. Nice team that can shake up the Big 1 but not going anywhere long term. There are about 10 to 12 teams that have a snowballs change in hX$$ of doing anything in the tournament and Ind is not one of them. They are capable of winning A game at anytime against anyone but not capable of winning series after series against top competition.

That is a hell of a limb you are on.... that a team that was in the 120s in the RPI last year won't win supers this year.

I am trying to think of which post on this thread you are even responding to (the post above your bilious screed was a link to a poignant story about a young lady who died in 2015, so this Tourette's-esque blurt is somewhat bizarre)

Another statement that means nothing. Team and program is improving, winning, kids are happy and having fun, getting a quality education, but hey ,they will never be a top 10 team. Uhhh, who cares ?

Absolutely one of the best coaches in the country. She actually coaches and teaches these kids about life. She is a great role model. That is JMO

Was grateful to have Coach Stanton talk to our team last year. Half hour before her game she took time to address our players. She spent 10-15 minutes and only mentioned softball in the last five. Talked about family, education, and being a good person. Will always respect and support a coach with that message. I would let my daughters and would encourage any of our players to pick a coach/school like that. Even if a ring may never be in their future over someone of questionable morals.

Emileigh Cooper never wore an Indiana uniform or even attended the school, but her influence is felt every day within the softball program. Shonda Stanton likely wouldn't be the head coach at Indiana if not for her former player.

Sounds a lot like the new coach at Oregon.
