With possibly the most talented team they have fielded all year (Jolene Henderson, Alix Johnson, Hallie Wilson, Kylie Lahners plus the usual suspects) the Hurricanes took a hard one and an easy one Sunday at Butterfield Park.
Hurricanes 0 0 0 3 0 0=3-5-0AC Borden had some control problems in the 1st with 2 walks and a wild pitch. Throw in a couple of of singles and the Wave had a 2-0 lead. The Hurricanes had nothing but singles by Roth and Bates to show for the 1st 3 innings. Ally Carda came on in the 3rd, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5, including the game's final 3 hitters. The Hurricanes did all their damage in the 4th. With 1 out Spigner walked and Bates tripled her in. Carda followed with an RBI single and Lahners tripled her in. They loaded the bases with 3 walks in the 6th but were unable to score. Wave 2 0 0 0 0 0=2-5-0 Misfits 0 0 0 0 0=0 -2 -1Though Jolene Henderson hadn't picked up a ball in over a month, she didn't look like she had forgotten anything. She might have been a little rusty as she walked 2, hit 2 and uncorked a wild pitch but with a 9 run safety blanked after 2 she wasn't really tested. The Hurricanes picked up 12 of their hits in the 1st 2 innings to put the game out of reach early. Roth and Booker singled and when Booker tried to steal the catch threw the ball into CF. Spigner followed with an IF hit for a run and Lahners singled in another. Carda walked to load the bases and Blank and Tiumalu each contributed RBI-singles. Spigner and Brown each singled in 2 runs in the 2nd. Roth led off the 3rd with a triple, the team's only extra-base hit of the daym and came home on Johnson's sac fly. Booker was 3-3 for the game as was Blank. Roth was 2-2 and Spigner and Lahners each 2-3. The Hurricanes will be back at Butterfield next weekend for the final weekend of the regular season.
