The Hurricane pitching staff was on at Citrus College Saturday allowing only 2 runs in 3 games. Unfortunately that only translated into a 2-1 showing as the bats didn't show up for game 1.
Pumas 2 Hurricanes 0
Kayla Massey deserved better but the Hurricanes were missing several starters and their patchwork lineup could never come up with the big hit. They got a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the 2nd and a Spigner GDP killed a promising start in the 3rd. The best chance came in the 6th when they loaded the bases with 1 out but could show nothing but a couple of pop ups for their trouble. Emergency player Katie Denio, with a single and BB was the only Hurricane to reach base twice

Hurricanes 12 SoCal Aces 0  4 innings
AC Borden threw a 2 hitter and Hurrican bats exploded for 14 hits in a mercy rule victory. They were also helped by 4 walks and 4 errors. The Hurricanes scored at least 2 in every inning with a six run 2nd being the killer. There were plenty of offensive heroes: Megan Blank went 3-3 with 3 RBIs, Mel Roth went 3-3 and Ashlyn Booker 3-4. That's 9-10 for the 1st 3 hitters. Ally Carda hit a 2-run HR and Cami Brown was 2-3.

Hurricanes 7  Storm 0  4 innings
The usually tough Storm was in a giving mood to the tune of 7 walks and 3 hit batters. The Canes only got 4 hits, but 3 were doubles and there were aways plenty of runners on base. Neither side managed a hit through 2 innings but the Hurricanes broke it open with 3 in the 3rd. A hit batter and 2 walks loaded the bases. Carda doubled in 2 and Cipolini provided a sac fly. They got 4 more in the 4th just before time expired. Brown singled and back-to-back doubles by Blank and Booker brought in 2. The other 2 runs came on a hit batter with the bases loaded and a wild pitch. Cipolini had the unusual line of 0-0 with 2 RBIs. Carda struck out 6 and walked 3 but didn't allow a hit.

When your pitchers allow only 2 hits on the day you are in pretty good shape. Throw in some timely hitting, a bunch of free passes and a few errors and you have the recipe for a couple of 8-0 mercy wins.
Hurricanes       2 0 0 6 0=8
Corona Angels 0 0 0 0 0=0
(Freeman)

Kayla Massey allowed only 1 legitimate baserunner and that was on a single in the last inning. There was a double in the 2nd when the 2nd baseman and right fielder ran together and an error in the 4th. The Hurricanes had 10 hits, all of them singles other than doubles by Booker and Massey. They loaded the bases in the 1st on singles by Roth and Booker and a hit batter. Cipollini ripped a single off the pitcher's glove for 2 runs and the Canes were off and running. They got bogged down the next 2 innings, then blew it open in the 4th. Things came gift wrapped as 3 different infielders made errors to start the inning. Massey and Bates struck out and just as it looked as if they might escape, singles by Roth and Blank, Booker's double and Spigner's single brought in 6. Spigner went 2-2 and Roth and Booker 2-3.

Hurricanes 3 1 1 2
1=8

In the 3 times I have seen Ally Carda pitch this summer she has yet to allow a hit. Today she was perfect' 15 up and 15 down, 8 via strikeout. I know it's not exactly the Pac-12 but any port in a storm. You're not supposed to walk the 1st batter in the inning, so walking the 1st 2 puts you in peril and the Hurricanes punished them. Booker got an RBI-single, Spigner a sac fly and Carda an RBI-single. They collected 4 singles in the 2nd, only 1 of which left the infield. In the 3rd it was a Spigner double (1-1 on the day), passed ball and sac fly from Bates for the run.  They got 2 unearned runs in the 4th on Booker's double. Needing 1 run in the 5th they got a double from Cipollino, sacrifice and walk off single from Cami Brown. Cipollino was a perfect 3-3 and Booker, and Brown each collected 2 hits.
