Article by Kayla Lombardo, Excelle Sports

Most interesting quote, "“Coach Mike [Lotief] has really helped me develop into the hitter I am now,” Sanders said. “If I had gone anywhere else, I’d probably be sitting on the bench right now."

Nice article.  I have always appreciated Lotief and the Cajun program simply because they are a middie with local players who break into the wcws fairly often, and one day they will win it...just not when Az is in it![smile]

I've always known Mike does a terrific job considering the Cajuns virtually never get top 200 recruits. I would venture to say that a large percentage of the All Americans the Cajuns have had during his tenure had only the Cajuns as their highest profile or only offers.

Agreed. I don't think anyone likes drawing them come tournament time. Nice to see a team succeed on the big stage with homegrown talent.

DJ isnt a 'local' player nor is she even from Louisiana.
But shes as sweet and well mannered kid as they come with GREAT parents.
Buy some of her Moms hair bows if you get a chance.

Well now you're just splitting hairs with that local comment sheesh!  Let's just say then that she was not highly recruited...and most of ULL's teams are filled with locals and/or regional locals.

All of the Cajuns players are either from Louisiana or Texas with two exceptions.  D. J. is from Columbus, Mississippi and Alex Stewart is from Zionsville, Indiana.

We've had some good luck in Mississippi with lower recruited players (Nerissa Myers, Briana Cherry, and now DJ).

To my understanding didn’t D.J. Sanders commit when she was a senior?

Goes to show you that you don’t have to recruit early to get great players... Great job D.J. keep working hard...

Yep and I'm sure that was her plan all along.

I'm sure there are a couple of Fortune 500 CEOs without an MBA as well. Should every aspiring executive not get their MBA?
