I live in Alabama. Both Alabama and Auburn (and many other schools for that matter) have had football and basketball players ARRESTED for marijuana possession who never misses a game. Oh if softball mommas and daddies knew how many of their daughters frequently smoked weed and had sex with their boyfriends or girlfriends ...

I am defending her! I get tired of the constant claims of replant. I could use other pitchers, but she seems most maligned here. Most pitchers are NOT essentially throwing from a shorter distance than they are supposed to.

Pot is the new alcohol. And when all the old farts like me fade away - what a laugh these irresponsible young'uns will have. Hell, they're laughing at us now. As the great Willie Nelson sang - there's more old drunks than there are old doctors so I guess I'll have another round. Funny how us geriatrics think Willie's pot smoking is cool.

Ahhh, Rudy. Yes. I was hoping you'd weigh in.

Wonder what Clint will have to say about this? Remember, Emily taking a leave of absence was met with this gem: "Life goes on. That's the great thing about sports. No one person's bigger than the program. It just means that somebody else has to pick up the load."

Seems like that would be better suited for this situation. Maybe he's a time traveler, saw the future and got mixed up?

Pot is harmless, as others have mentioned, there are far worse things that are legal. That being said, in most places it is still illegal and it really isn't something that leads to high performance (no pun intended) at an athletic level. It also violates team rules. And, as has been proven time and again, there isn't a team rule that a Fagan won't break. I'd blame the father for it all, but regardless of upbringing, at some point, you are responsible as an adult for your choices. If there are any other Fagan's, college coaches would be wise to steer clear, no matter how gifted they are athletically. Though, I do thank the older two, without them, Walton wouldn't have changed the way he recruits and I'm not sure they win a single World Series with a fagan on the roster.

Sad to see so many of you say pot is harmless..........

When, the truth is, it's harmful and dangerous.........

Nobody has addressed this:  marijuana is a banned substance per NCAA.  Won't this have repercussions with them?

This goes way beyond softball. Total lack of respect for themselves, their teammates and their university. Pot is a gateway drug. Good luck getting jobs.

I agree...definitely the most common "innocent" gateway drug of all time.

This Auburn team is the North Dallas Forty lite of college softball. If they play their cards right, they can appeal to the masses beyond just softball. Especially on this day, they may just become the female patron saints of 4/20. From a stoners point of view, they literally sacrificed some playing time to distract authorities (hopefully on a large scale) and infuriate the morally superior. so that millions of others may get high today without being hassled by either (Getting arrested just minutes into the day should prove that intention).

Like someone said earlier, it's made for TV kinda stuff. Please ESPN share this teams story. How these thug-lite princesses once were just an average team. Myers came along and brought them a game plan, gave them belief and how at the brink of prosperity, they fall short. Ugh!!! We've all been there. How soon after although they are the queens of campus and decadence becomes the norm, there are still residual feelings of lack in these princesses that have yet to be worked out and it starts to manifest and makes their struggle back to the BIG show, real super hard. Folly after folly challenging them at every turn as they run the gauntlet of the big bad SEC.  Show the back story (re-enactment style) of one of the assistant coaches and how an innocent walk in to a Barnes & Noble changes the course of his career. How a book called "The Game" fell off the damn shelf right as he was walking by and hits his feet.  As he picks it up, he reads a few paragraphs and his focus on sports quickly wanes, as his focus to become a pick-up artist soon blossoms.

I can go on but just think of the mass appeal these ladies potentially have. Especially if they make it back to the WCWS. [smile]

If I was given the choice to legalize one of three things that could have bad consequences.....cigarettes, alcohol or weed, I'd legalize weed without hesitation. Really enjoy my evenings with Tito, but never seen a pot head start a fight or insist on driving home when he couldn't put the key in the ignition.

These three are definitely to Myers what Warren Beatty was to Steve Harvey

Pot is the gateway to what - pizza? I guess Listerine is the gateway to whiskey. Addicts be addicts... they'll find something, anything to hold at bay those internal demons.

Sorry, but the only person I thought who would turn this into a discussion about legalization anyway "because it's harmless" would have been daddy Fagan.
As an athlete, part of your job while someone else is paying your freight is following their rules. Whether you think their rules are right or not is completely irrelevant once you sign their dotted line and they are paying the bills. Is walton's rule of everyone wearing the same bow or not having earrings that are too big sensible to a lot of people? No. Is the Yankees rule of no long hair or facial hair anything that should be a big deal to an outsider? No. But when you opt to play for these guys, you are agreeing to follow their rules and EVERY athlete knows that.
I have no dog in this fight. I neither like nor dislike auburn. However, as a former athlete in this sport, there's no excuse for this kind of stupidity. Fine, let's say they love marijuana. They believe it should be legal. They have the rest of their lives to smoke it when they're no longer being paid not to. Hell, when season is over in LESS THAN TWO MONTHS, they can smoke themselves stupid (though I recommend doing it in a state where it's legal). Meanwhile, their celebration of 420 needed to wait and they deserve punishment for breaking team rules, NCAA rules, and the law whether you agree with it or not.

Lol I would love a Miscellaneous thread about what everyone here really thinks about marijuana. I partake myself and honestly, even though this is such an incredibly dumb and unforced fail on their part — not to mention a complete letdown to their teammates — I would probably need some myself if I was living through that mess down there. Can't tell if this is tears or if they're really bloodshot. Probably both. Honestly super unfortunate but better to make these mistakes when you're young (I as well was arrested in college).

When does the seemingly endless supply of this family of reprobates dry up so college softball can reduce it's scandals by half or more.

Ummm, I will support your right to free speech, albeit hateful.  However, you are simply lying about Sami Fagan leading anything against Mizzou coaching staff last year.  She had no part in instigating the investigation, which concluded months ago - with no findings of fault.  The party who was the main instigator is no longer at Mizzou.

In all honesty, Auburn not the NCAA can continue to cover Clint's butt. This is a train wreck. This is what happens when you keep everyone in the dark with Corey.....all the nastiness comes out. Any defense for Haley Fagan is completely irrelevant. Those sisters are a coven of witches

How many pot heads to do hang around with Scotty? Hahaha. Many DUI arrests are for marijuana and it kills brain cells. While tobacco damages the lungs and alcohol kills the liver.
